I remember the game against us he missed some absolute backbreaking layups

But I agree that he would bring an element to our offense we haven’t had and this is all basically coming back to needing something better than Emory or Nickel anyway

It’s a fair point but they also have a top 5 defense in the country and a very good running game. We’re not about to trot out a top 30 defense anytime soon.

All I remember was them killing us on 3rd down and I checked and sure enough, 9-14.

But I’m a bad source of assessing QBs that played us. They got the Guidry bump from going against our defense.
 
if he had even a similar year to what he did in 2023 for us we could win the acc

talking myself into it because there's just no way it's still not 5x better than this:

Yeah, but that approach only works if you have Al Golden as your DC.

I dont think anyone in here is claiming he's good - I've been very critical of him actually

but we're not comparing him to cam ward, we're comparing him to a potential alternative if we don't get him - which is emory williams

and he is good in comparison to Emory Williams and what Dawson could do with him vs Emory Williams

Basically budget Jalen Milroe, this would have worked really well with what was suggested about getting an elite RB from the portal and add to a deadly rushing attack with possibilities of deep threat play action

He's also going to be compared to every other QB who wasn't pursued in the portal. It's not just to Emory and Cam.

Drones has never had skill guys and a OL like this. He doesn’t need to be Cam. I’ll bet my savings account the defense will be much better , give that a good run game you have something . Look at all the playoff qb’s this go around . Not one great player . Klubnik might be the only superstar and the rest are game manager types or just pretty good.
 
The issue with riding with Nickel is that Year 5 becomes feast or fired for Mario. You’re not winning the ACC with a true freshman QB. You’re probably looking at tops 7-5 or 8-4 honestly with this schedule, and in Year 4…that’s not ideal.

Which means 2026 becomes even more important than 2024. You have to make a conference championship in half a decade, there’s just no excuse possible to keep floundering in that scenario. So if you ride with him in 2025, you better make sure Nickel is THE GUY, or else we’ll have a new coach in 2027.

Even though Drones is an injury waiting to happen + the passing aspect of his game is highly questionable, he gives you a better chance at 9-10 wins than Nickel.

He’s not remotely enticing to me and I’m not quite sure he’ll attract top WR talent, but the alternative is scary. At least the read option element is there with a top 10 OL in the country. It should be enough to keep you competitive in most games.

Yes. By short-sighted stupid porsters who can't fathom that we had a pecking order and missed on one or more guys.

You can't just put a dozen guys on the same level and then act like the one we landed was our choice all along.
