Kevin Beard's Impact on Recruiting

He demanded that the terrible Ryan Collins start over the terrible Frank Costa.

Collins cost us the game at WVU. He was awful.

If either one of them was even slightly better, we win the title in 94 and probably lose only once in 93. Same with the OL quite frankly.

Puke is indeed of the same cloth as LeBatard, Alex Figueroa, Lamar Thomas, Choad Wilson, and Morbidly Obese Moe.
I remember it was Ryan Collins. I guess that was the snitch thing and I know he’s made demands about offering his players. I thought he also demanded a coach be hired or he wasn’t sending players to us, correct???

Probably, but I don't recall exactly. It could have been Telly Lockette. I just can't remember straight away.

That's not what actually happened. The actual threat was done in 1995 (Butch's 1st yr) Luke threatened UM that if Collins didn't start over Covington or Clement, he'd tell the NCAA enough to give UM the Death Penalty. Luke "was" already mad that Collins didn't start over Costa in 94....but the actual Threat was in 1995 involving Covington and Clement. Unfortunately I remember it vividly, and so does @Brooklyndee

That timeframe makes a certain sense. Although it makes me wonder why he didn't make the threat earlier. That's a subject for outside this board, however.

I was around Hecht a Ton in 95 since it was Chuck's 1st yr. (was a GA in 86) If I remember correctly, the threat was in April or May of 95. Just what Butch needed, as if he didn't already have enough on his plate.

If I recall correctly, it’s been mentioned on here about Luke back in the day demanding a certain QB starts and also that a certain coach gets hired or he’s got details on UM. Wasn’t it a meet my demands or I’m snitching you out to the NCAA type of thing???

If that’s true then how does anyone here defend him?
luke is a narcissistic piece of ****. he's not a real hurricane fan. he can go **** himself with a wood splintered monster baseball bat.

here's an article on the subject matter. as @SWFLHurricane says, it was 1995. welcome back, from band camp.

SWFLHurricane, you were close to the team in those days and I don't remember those games that well but was Costa that bad a QB or did he just play behind a bad OL,from what I remember he was always getting drilled just about every time he passed the ball and had no time to read the defense.

Costa and the OL were both bad, exception being KC Jones who was a wild man.

Alittle of Both....our OL in 94 was deplorable, outside of AA KC Jones. (Because of Ericksons OL recruiting) I really didn't come around until 95....so 94 was alittle before me. I will say that I can name 5 or 6 other former UM QBs that we'd have beaten Nebraska in 95 OB with.
