Kevin Beard's Impact on Recruiting

Not just KK, Brock Berlin as well. It was so obvious to everyone but us.
Our play-action deep ball was birthed from the dreaded “stretch play” that was a staple of the Coker T. Say what you want about the Coker T, but it had an identity that Butch wanted and proved to be instrumental in our success. My $0.02

Absolutely, but, there was a different style of play that just suited us better.

If you saw how the offense opened up after Dorsey took over the last 3 games of the 1999 season, and how Dorsey finished up the Gator Bowl. Kelly saw the writing on the wall.

With Kelly, we kept running tht doggone Coker-T (which I absolutely despised with Wayne and Moss as our WR's), but as soon as Ken Dorsey comes in, it goes back to being a real pro-set offense, and we had a much more free-flowing offense

I was told by a coach that Kelly just didn't know the playbook well enough. But I do think KK was suited for a shotgun spread, hurry-up, which was what they ran during that miraculous 28-0 comeback at Boston College that season. We really could've been ahead of the game if they went that route

He was so helter skelter.

He would make some plays that made you think he was going to be a superstar. Then he would start throwing picks.

He was a prodigy and tried to play hero ball. Wasn’t comfortable throwing in rhythm from under center. Always scrambling around trying to make the big play like high school.

Too bad he couldn’t reach his full potential. If it worked, we could have redshirted Dorsey and had him starting in 2002 and 2003. Kelly would have been gone after 2001.

And the reality is, most of Kelly's big plays were really just Santana Moss having to come back to the ball and making a great play. Those were not great throws. It was about Moss doing his version of 'Moss'd'...

After the Summer of 99....it was just a matter of time for KD to take the helm, regardless of what KK did.

Love it. Hartline probably crashed his ATV when he saw KB lounging on his throne in all those retweets.
Hartline finna coach another team next year. He sees that QB room is ***.

Carr and Smith come on down.
