Juwon Young Hype Train

I know this might be splitting hairs here, but I always liked LBs that knew the RB position. I thought it helped as an LB to know the way the offense flows for an RB.

Agreed, Kid looks like a future beast. Would love to see him at MLB. We have been missing an impact MLB for so long.

Any of you who have seen him live care to give a bit more of a breakdown on his game? There's not a great deal to take away from the film provided other than he's big, has a good short area burst and is solid with pursuit angles. He stands straight up a lot (sometimes jumps), fairly raw and roaming around mostly. Hard to get a clean look. I wanna be excited about an incoming LB.

I saw him live in a camp setting, and his quick-twitch stands out even among South Florida athletes. He was dominant with his hand in the ground.

With his senior tape, all I wanted to see was some change-of-direction and comfort in space. He showed enough of that to sell me. He wasn't even rushing the passer in that video, but he has those abilities.

I hope he doesn't end up being a Spencer Adkins who is misused all the way to the NFL.

I'm sure you've answered this a thousand times but how does a kid like this slip through the crack?. His highlight tape looks legit and I'll take your word for it considering you've seen him in person.

His offer sheet is pretty bad and didn't even get offered by Georgia Tech.

No clue. My only guess is that his grades were shaky, and by the time those issues were resolved he was already a Cane. From what I'm told, qualifying was touch-and-go until he was actually enrolled in Miami. Even after he popped a good score there were issues he needed to resolve.

His offer sheet is lame, doesn't that mean he sucks?

He may not suck but there's a whole lotta Cane koolaid in this thread.

Kid is straight Diesel... I'll drink to that!

Is it true that his lack of other offers is a result of grade concerns? Not important at all as long as this beast is in orange and green I guess I'm just curious. Mostly cuz it's hard for kids like this to slip through the cracks in this day I'm age with so many recruiting sites and easy access to videos and stuff. Just curious how other schools missed him.

Big, short area burst and takes good angles.

Everything we haven't had at LB since god knows when

I give zero ***** about standing up, being raw and roaming at this point.

We've had some of those skills here. Whether they've been used correctly or not is another question. Kirby's video and skill set (as a general rating) was at least as impressive. Not as big, but very impressive coming in. He's now played two years and spent this last one curiously behind a player who didn't exactly light the world on fire.

Kid has the size and heart, but has alot to learn. He's only 1 mango season ahead of Walter Tucker as a football player.

He's going to kick fools teeth in. Seems to have good short area burst. When he squares up... It over for whoever he hits. He's not the fastest MLB we've had, but def adequate. Technique also needs to get cleaned up a bit. Overall I think this is a solid get.

We are going to see some size in don't think we've seen on D in a while. DP 240,Figs could be 250 by fall, Kirby 240, Owens 235, young 230... And all these boys bring the pain!

Another kid being touted as a stud before he's ever even played a snap at UM. Hopefully he won't join the long list of future HOFers that did jack **** on the field.

3* prospect with a 2* offer sheet and low 3* caliber film...the fanbase is at it again overhyping average kids before they even step on the field.

4th play of his highlight film is him standing up tall right out out of his stance and loafing in coverage, gambling and getting lucky with a strip. The rest of the film reveals nothing but technical flaws, a low motor and pedestrian defensive plays. I'll pass.

I could see this kid being a stud FB here... He will need to work hard to be a decent LB. He won't be body slamming CFB running backs like he does in his HS vids.

D$, you don't think he's going to have issues adjusting to the LB position for us? I do.

This staff has had trouble developing LBs period, so that's a concern with anyone.

But specifically, he fits better here than he would have fit under the Shannon regime. Young can fill the Shayon Green role pretty easily- he has the size and strength to hold up, and he is a nasty pass rusher. If he develops as more of a pure linebacker, he can slide inside.

As for the Kirby comparison Lu mentioned, I just think Young is more physically talented. Kirby is solid (much better than he's shown so far), but Young has shown me some special traits.

He played at a bottom feeder in Georgia. Colleges don't visit those schools in densely populated areas, let alone rural Georgia. Coaching there was probably suspect too.

Kids tape looked good. Kid looks big and athletic, we'll see in the scrimmages.
