Jump to #7 in the AP poll, #9 in the Coaches poll

Power ratings (as opposed to rankings/power rankings) don’t take resume into consideration. They are used by oddsmakers to set lines on games.

If the 3rd best team in the country plays the best team week 1, and the 2nd best team week 2, and loses both games, they might drop in ranking (i.e., out of the top 25). But it’s power rating might still say they are the 3rd best team in the nation and would be favored on a neutral field over every team except 1 & 2.

407 was saying our rating should have us at 6 or 7.

Here is sagarin (who set odds for USA Today for many years), who has us at 18. And ESPN sp+, who has us at 10.

These are likely still low because the algos still heavily incorporate priors. By ~week 4 you’ll see this years games get weighted much more than priors, and our rating will likely jump some at that time.

18 & 10 still seem very low. Maybe we still have a few more weeks to buy Miami cheap.
Ya Sagarin has “hated” us for years be size of the recent prior history factor.

Still a ways to go before the preseason ratings get filtered out of the metrics. I would be curious to see what the SP+ numbers look like in a week without them though.

Jumped idle USC in the Coaches Poll.

Chances for movement this week...

---If Pedo State struggles with Kent State, we could jump over them.
---If USC beats Michigan, they could jump over us.
---If Oklahoma State beats Utah, we jump over Utah and hope that Oklahoma State doesn't jump over us.
---Can "beat VaTech" Vandy manage to upset Mizzou? Or will we get "lost to Georgia State" Vandy again?
---Will Oklahoma beat Tennessee with College GameDay looking on?

Kind of surprised about the jump over Oregon especially with how they handled Oregon St. yesterday, but hey, we'll take it. Just keep winning Canes.

22-14 at half. Oregon scored 27 points in the second half.

Oregon beat Boise by 3 and Idaho by 10.

Body of work. One dominant half is not enough.

At any rate, we are ahead by ONE VOTE. If even ONE voter flips UM and Oregon, we drop.

Eh, they were a 17 point favorite on the road against Oregon State and up by 8 at the half. Pretty much held to expectations in the first half and surpassed them in the 2nd.

If Miami had jumped Oregon last week after their first 2 lackluster performances, that would have made more sense than after a dominant win on the road against a rival. Such is the whims of the college football writers. Like I said, just keep winning Canes.
