Josh Pate take on Mario

Mario has established Miami as a top-15 program.

The next step is to be a top-10 program.

In the current format, that means perennial playoff appearances.

Anything above and beyond that metric is a difficult ask for any program.

Regardless, it needs to start happening this year. I put a 50% chance on it.

What if in 2025 Miami beats Notre Dame Florida and Florida State but manages to blow two games to crappy ACC teams again? 10-2 regular season but no ACC championship game.

Is that better or worse than losing to all 3 of those teams but otherwise beating all the other ACC opponents and playing for a conference title?

I know it’s not really on topic but what ever, it’s the off season. Stupid conversations like this MUST take place.
There's still plenty of time for the inevitable thread titled, "Would you mind going 3-9 as long as the 3 were ND, UF, and FSU?"

Pate knows where his bread is buttered.

Hes going to toe the line perfectly because he wants to maintain access and keep his relationships intact.

Mario is an average coach. He does some things well and some things poorly.

Is he a good recruiter? Sure.

Has he missed on the vast majority of his highschool evals since he's been here? Yes.

Has he squandered a #1 offense and 1/1 NFL draft QB by not making the post-season? Yes.

Does he over-rely on Portal players? Yes.

In the ACC, how many head coaches comparatively surpass their expectations when you look at how much financial support they get and their recruiting classes?

Mario is an average coach who underachieves.
he has his bad moments but look at his record against top 25 talents at FIU he beat L-ville, he beat OSU on the road without kayvon, hes won a rose bowl. his last season he at OU he won 10 games and he was basically leaving after Manny lost to Michigan state. hes not a bum coach. our program has sucked for 20 years. our roster is full of kids who have never seen a good miami team.

It's a different era, Dabo in the NIL era hasn't done nearly as well.
Having Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson as your QBs who played in 4 out of 5 National Championships and then went on to sign 200+ million contracts in the NFL, went along way in to Clemsons success

Yeah but 3-9 is a failure no matter who the three wins are against. In my bull**** scenario, the choice is a little tougher.

Save it for the "Would you trade" thread. You shouldn't have to wait much longer.

Your choice is more difficult, because we beat the 3 pound your chest and run your mouth opponents, but collapse again and fail

I never thought so many people would be mad at a ten win season where we blew out Florida and Florida State but people’s expectations change.

Having nothing to hang your hat on after a 10 win season other than what ifs certainly presents unique perspective.

manny had some success because he hired Rhett lashlee. his teams were built on gimmicks. once lashlee went to SMU we would have been cooked.

mario came in and while year 1 was a disaster, the roster and floor of the program has risen.

you want to compare the side by side records but how about we are not getting 700 yards ran on us by UNC or doing slip and slides on the sidelines when we beat Duke

Not taking a knee was his year 2 blunder. Blowing a 21-0 lead against Syracuse was his year 3 blunder. Let's see what happens this year. The secondary should be much improved.

Under Mario we havent really had a game where we just got dominated like we have in years past. Even when Richt brought us to an ACCCG, we lost something like 31-3.

He's not perfect, but he is better than Manny.
you forget marios first game back against FSU

I remember when Dewayne Allen was on tape talking about how much money he was making at Clemson and no one cared.
That's how all those big programs ran things before NIL, even us but we weren't good at it. If Mario was our HC back then our bag game would have been tight, don't forget he learned from Saban.

Watson probably didn't take a dime, he wanted his payment in massage's

I had to stop reading the thread but lemme guess something about Mario’s recruiting, slurpers and mopes, assistant hirings

I’m sure it’s not just the same stuff regurgitated over and over again
hahha, i came back to the page w/ sheer regret lol....and of course your assumption is spot on.

Mad about the 10 wins? - No
Mad about blowing out UF and FSU? - No

Mad about choking away the #1 offense in the country, opportunity to play for the ACC Championship, Playoff opportunity and then lose to Iowa State in the Bowl Game? - Yes -- people are not satisfied with that ending.
