Josh Pate take on Mario

Mario is a good coach. His value is a great recruiter, and he will have a great OL, and he will have a tough physical football team.

He isn't perfect, he has flaws like most coaches, but he is a good football coach, and the best coach Miami has had in a long time.
I think everyone wanted to see the immediate turn around like the lick nut at Indiana had. Mario's always stated "we aren't quite there yet" and one tends to wonder when will we be.

I see some growth as well. More CEO and letting his OC and DC work. My concern is the lack of fine execution which shows on special teams, which other than the kickers have been mediocre to bad. We have good enough Athletes to make special teams a plus. I hope we see progress there.

Special teams has been driving me nuts for a few years now, been asking for an upgrade there. I can't recall the last time we took one to the house on punt returns.

Special teams will come as we continue to build quality depth all over the field. We are seeing great improvement in the quality of our first teamers. And the depth is getting there. Hopefully one more great recruiting class this year will come close to being where we need to be and then it will be up to Mario to keep getting those great classed every year to maintain. When you have athletes as good as the first teamers on the second team, those will be the guys who make a difference on Special teams.

If Saban could adapt so can he and I feel like he did with the offense last year. Just needs to keep adding ingredients and allow his coordinators to do work.

Any coach at any top p4 team will be dragged through the mud unless he wins a natty.

Saban changed the narrative and Dabo managed to survive it.
IMO what’s more impressive isn’t the chips he won but the number of times he had the number one recruiting class.

We (myself included) kept believing our recruits and players were better than they were. We also consequentially believed we were so close from being elite on and off the field.

Reality is that we weren’t recruiting anywhere near where we needed to be and our players weren’t underrated at all. We were also way behind the eightball in terms of quality depth and roster composition.

Then we kept thinking that the portal was just gonna make us automatically elite. Wrong again.

Look at the moves ole miss did in the portal and recruiting with a coach that many on here wanted.

Look at usc with Riley and the portal and all the qb’s they’ve had.

Look at the money the classes and the draft picks Ohio state has had since 2014. They finally got one again and it may have been because of a freshman. Also, if it wasn’t for the playoffs, they don't win jack sht.

Look at Tamu/Texas and all the money and talent they’ve recruited.

Winning a chip isn’t easy. But bashing coaches is effortless.

My biggest problem with Mario is he makes really bad in-game coaching decisions and some of them are pretty basic moves like TAKE A KNEE. The defense last year was terrible and he never made any real strategic or personal adjustments. You can blame Guidry all you want but it's your team and you make the ultimate call.

In a conference, any competent coach should win 10 games at Miami, he has 2 failures and a choke job blowing a chance at the playoffs and we are to throw a parade...

His best attribute is lowering the expectations at Miami.

And to answer Pate's question -- Overrated because Miami administration thinks he is the only football coach in the world that can be the head coach at Miami.
