Josh Pate Speaking Facts on Miami's loss to GT (11/10)

I've been following this program for 40 years... I know the history coming out of the bye week. Not feeling confident at all we win the next two.. I hope they prove all of wrong . Guidry is a liability to this team. Cam needs to get back to being cam and stop trying to go for the homerun ball every time. There is no reason why they cannot win the next two, Canes have the better athletes. It will be up to Marion & Co. to get them ready. If we do make it to ACCCG , Lashlee is about to light us up.

Ehh. We’ll beat WF, and I think pretty handily too. It’s Syracuse that worries me.

Somewhat. But also, national people are "national people" because they're not fanboys. They don't throw a party or kill themselves based off a week's result. Josh said it best....this loss doesn't change his perception. It was a one-score game. We've won a couple this year (VT and Cal...I know Louisville was 1 score but I really never felt we were in danger that game, they led the game for something like 2 total minutes), and we just lost one. We didn't get blown off the field. We had a very down game offensively, our defense did what it does and was generally poor, and we got beat. We won the previous 2 games by 50 points.

Where do we go from here is the million dollar question? Do we beat Wake by 20 and Cuse by 10 on the road and roll into Charlotte and play well? Or do we **** the bed? That's the real story, not necessarily what happened on Saturday, as disappointing as it was. It's very hard to win every single game in a season, favored or not.
Well said. I fully expect us to return to our average performance this season. Which is a great offense and a leaky defense. Except with the injuries the defense will be worse

I still believe we’re just outside the “elite” teams but those teams aren’t really what I’d consider elite either so they’re all beatable. ACC champs and playoff spot is a legit goal and very realistic. Winning it all would be a bit of a long shot but not out of the realm of possibility. Our best is good enough to beat anyone.

We have a second bye week for Guidry to get his head out of his ***. First time it did not go well and been downhill ever since. Let's hope for some type of miracle.
At this point, this is our Defense’s identity. We need to get the offense back on track. We will have to outscore everyone as usual and make everyone of our offensive possessions count.

I have a feeling the 12-Team Playoff is going to be wild.

There really isn't a standout juggernaut this year.

Cardiac Canes can still beat anybody.

No reason we can't light the lamp at the end of any game and steal it. We could have done that v. GT and we'd be here business as usual.

Elite gif.

GT threw it 16 times and the killer pass was downfield on 3/17 for 18 yards
i do not think we have pressured QB very well all year.......
Yes they did complete the 3rd and 17. DL hasn’t been great I’m just saying they didn’t have many opportunities to actually rush the passer is all I was saying also 48 run plays will wear u out

Defense was putrid. But the coaching staff left 8 points on the field with the 2 non FG attempts and 2 XP. But what about one of the worst non calls on a PI I have ever witnessed. Don't even remember who it was but his shoulder pad was completely out of his jersey from the CB yanking on it. How in the **** is that not called.

You mean the non-FG attempt when Miami was down by 12 in the late 3rd quarter. They should have kicked it to make a two-score game stay a two-score game?

Also, Miami went for two only once, not twice.

Y'all gotta stop this ****. The calls were the right calls. We have the #1 offense in America and a poor defense. You're not winning games with field goals.

Old guy here.....there's an old football saying that holds true. You NEVER leave points on the field. We should have gone for the guaranteed points. Two field goals would have given us the win.

Statistically that saying is incorrect

Since when is a 40 yard field goal guaranteed? Yes, Borregales is the man. But on no planet is a 40 yard field goal "guaranteed".

We crushed Mario for 2 years for being a caveman. Now he's too aggressive all of a sudden? Stop it.

Fair and logical, as usual from Josh.

He said one thing that I’ve really been shaking my head at the last 2 days too. It only took 28 to get us. I genuinely did not think that was in our range of outcomes. We’re killing the defense, and rightfully so. But we lost a game giving up 28 points. I thought if/when we lost, it’d take AT LEAST 35, if not 40. I just can’t believe we only scored 23.

More on this in the stat roll thread, but regression to the mean finally got us on 3rd and 4th down. We’d be comically great up until now. We finally had a down game, and it results in 23 points.

But that game really didn’t change a whole lot to me, once I got over the initial disappointment of hoping for a true miracle season and going undefeated into the playoff. It’s a good team, with flaws. Just like a lot of teams. We didn’t lose by 30. With Cam Ward, we’ll be in the game against anyone we play, imo. This one, we came up one possession short.
Because the offense was horrible. It's ok to say it.

The coaching was horrible not to take 3 points in the first half. It was a horrible play call on 4th and 1 in the second half.

Ward also could have taken a ton of checkdowns, as per usual.

The offense failed.

I've said it for 4 days now. You're right.

I disagree that the coaching was horrible to not take the points in the first half. Again, your defense can't get off the field, they're clearly trying to shorten the game, and they're successful in doing it. If we didn't have the #1 offense in America, I'd possibly agree with you. But give me Cam Ward trying to get 3 yards 100 times out of 100. We were, I think, 10 out of 11 to that point on the season on 4th down. You'll never convince me that was a horrible coaching mistake. It was not.

The horrible coaching mistake was calling a god-awful design play-action pass on 4th and 1 on the first drive of the 2nd half, after running the ball 7 straight plays to start that drive. Again, we were #2 in America in 4th down conversion rate. We hadn't been stopped the entire season on 4th and 1 running the ball. Put it in Martinez's belly again, and let's keep the drive going. The decision was poor, the actual call was even worse.

But yes, the offense had its worst game of the year, clearly. It's what I keep coming back to. I didn't think there was a chance we could lose a game where our opponent only scores 28 points. I was wrong. The offense scored less than half their season average. I'm a math guy so I'll say this....I'll take my chances that doesn't happen again, and we score at or near our average the next 3 games.
