Josh Pate Speaking Facts on Miami's loss to GT (11/10)

I have a feeling the 12-Team Playoff is going to be wild.

There really isn't a standout juggernaut this year.

Cardiac Canes can still beat anybody.

No reason we can't light the lamp at the end of any game and steal it. We could have done that v. GT and we'd be here business as usual.

He’s generally fair. I’ve said before that anyone thinking we had a serious chance at winning a Natty this year was delusional. Winning the ACC, finally, and getting into the playoff was the goal.
People really got lost in the 9-0 record without internalizing the three games we easily could have lost if not for a few flipped calls and Cam Ward playing out of his mind. This is a good team, but it's not a great team. Goal should be to finish 11-1, win the ACCCG and then see where we go from there.

Getting Cam Ward and having him play at the level he is means you HAVE to win the ACC for a successful season. It’s black and white at this point.

Mopes will trash us if we lose our first playoff game, and it’ll sting, but overall Year 3 will be an unquestionable success for any rational fan that genuinely looks at the college football landscape and how you need to build a program in the Transfer Portal/NIL/12 team playoff era.

Complete the above (ACCC with playoff loss), then don’t let the wheels fall off next year and give us a competitive team that vies for another title and playoff run, and we’ll trust that the process is working.

Lose the ACC, and this board and fan base will (fairly at this point, imo) IMPLODE.

Win the improbable natty and we ****** like the federal government is still funding the Contras.

Go Canes

I'm furious about our flaws because I watch and rewatch our games. However glancing around: Every team that they think is good enough to compete has serious flaws and are very getable. We have as good a shot as anyone.
We will go (and it always has been) as far as Cam Ward and the offense can take us. Now if the defense can just trip some people (literally) on the way we have a better shot. Cam and the offense are going to have to just outscore everyone, its been evident since the end of September.

We have a second bye week for Guidry to get his head out of his ***. First time it did not go well and been downhill every since. Let's hope for some type of miracle.

Miracle would be correct. It’s not realistic to think the defense is suddenly going to get their act together after three months of being below average. It is what it is. Just have to hope they can make a play or two here and there and keep us in the game, then let the O do its thing.

Leas than great play by the defense is the standard this year, but the offense against GT was an outlier and I don’t suspect they’ll play that poorly again.

The only miracle you can ask for is to completely change the approach and start from scratch. It cannot be worse than anything we've seen so far. IMO, you have to wipe the slate clean to have a shot at this. Band-Aids are not going to do it. At the very least, you remove the tape from the first 10 games for any future opponent.

I don't think this coaching staff has it in them to do that.

but the offense against GT was an outlier

It doesn't necessarily show up in stats but I think the offense is being driven in large part because of the defense ineptitude. I don't think the offense feels like it can leave the field without points because of the defense. And they're pressing more than they should. It's incredible to have the best offense in college football and still feel nervous on every drive that they have to score.

Fair and logical, as usual from Josh.

He said one thing that I’ve really been shaking my head at the last 2 days too. It only took 28 to get us. I genuinely did not think that was in our range of outcomes. We’re killing the defense, and rightfully so. But we lost a game giving up 28 points. I thought if/when we lost, it’d take AT LEAST 35, if not 40. I just can’t believe we only scored 23.

More on this in the stat roll thread, but regression to the mean finally got us on 3rd and 4th down. We’d be comically great up until now. We finally had a down game, and it results in 23 points.

But that game really didn’t change a whole lot to me, once I got over the initial disappointment of hoping for a true miracle season and going undefeated into the playoff. It’s a good team, with flaws. Just like a lot of teams. We didn’t lose by 30. With Cam Ward, we’ll be in the game against anyone we play, imo. This one, we came up one possession short.

Cant say that on here. Alot of Colin Cowherd "I have new information so my view has changed" mofos on here. Lol. People want to delete that preseason predictions thread and act like this was "natty or bust" type season. Win the **** ACC (ESPECIALLY if we are playing SMU; I will have my pitchfork out if SMU wins the ACC title before we do) and whatever happens after that, I will accept.

The most frustrating part is that championship teams play their best football as you get later in the season and we seem to either just be the same or playing worse..I still think our most complete game of the season was game 1 against UF.
This is 100% on the coaches. If our players are still taking horrific angles on plays, missing assignments and are always confused on their pre-snap alignments in the month of November then we have a larger issue brewing than just being devoid of talent.

I think teams have worked out that if you just frustrate Ward by playing 2 high safeties he eventually stalls the drives himself.

He / we don't have the patience to take the underneath stuff / lean on Fletcher / Martinez. That'll only get worse when you play teams that can legit take away Horton / George et al with one player.
