As it relates to Josh Gattis as an OC, I would rather this message board devise a game plan and call the plays during games

I get the joke, but I'm being serious. People on message boards really think they could craft an offense better than people who do it for a living. And we're not unique around here. Every message board has dudes who believe that.

I get the strategy and am reserving judgment until this is all done. As I said elsewhere, a few people have mentioned that Mario is essentially doing the job of 5 recruiting. It's his own doing, but yea I get why he can't focus on the coaching side if he is trying to lock down this class and finish strong.
Wouldn't firing Gattis basically be recruiting though? Mario gotta make it tough on himself

I totally get what you’re saying, and I agree with you

At the same time, we see smaller schools with less talent and less support staff run circles from a game plan and design standpoint around Miami

I don’t think right now is a great time to soapbox on how hard coaching as it relates to Miami

Yeah people are pigeon holing offenses here. Clemson 100% won with a finesse offense twice. Bama while still physical, has gone to a wide open offense as well since Tua arrived on campus back. Also lets not forget LSU in 2019. Bottom line is that 7 out of 8 of the last chips were won by spread and open passing style offenses, unless someone tries to say that what Urban ran was physical first type football...

Whether you have a Finesse offense or a physical one - the common denominator is elite WRs. Problem is that WR has never been a recruiting strength for Mario and we're just hoping that he's secretly got DJs Ace up his sleeve.

he defends every member of the staff no matter how many times insiders have told you theyre trash and not doing their jobs recruiting. hes got every coaches **** shoved so far down his throat he can't see straight

So you're saying that dudes on a message board are actually better at gameplanning and playcalling than guys who do it for a living?

Kobe Bryant Yes GIF

The reality is we don't know what is going on behind closed doors. I am sure for recruits, they know the deal and Mario is saying it in some level. Maybe some of our insiders know the answer to this. But just because we are somewhat in the dark, does not mean the people that need to know (e.g. recruits, coaches, etc.) are also out of the loop.

With that said, even for us common schmucks, every single insider with a solid reputation down the line has said Gattis and others are gone, it is just a matter of when it is announced to the public. You can either choose to have faith and believe them or not.

Yea these terms really mix things up some times.

Like technically a wishbone offense that runs 99% of the time but is using misdirection and optioning off defenders is less physical than a Briles offense that is doing power runs in between deep shots.

Which one is the "gimmick" here.

That's a different discussion. Back to what I was responding to, dudes on this board would wet themselves if they were put in a game and asked to act as an OC.

Gattis has been let go. It's done.

That said, it's not because Mario doesn't believe in that style of offense. It's more because Gattis is a poor play caller, poor recruiter, and generally just a goofball that Mario got catfished on. Mario is going to make a hire that runs a similar offense because Mario is confident that he can build an OL capable of running that style of offense. He doesn't believe he needs to resort to gimmicks in order to build the trenches, and he has good reason to be confident. Just chill the f*** out guys. It's done.
Do you know the answer to this:

I am curious when Mario says "Pro Style Spread" does that mean he has a preference for heavy terminology West Coast offense and precise pre-determined WR timing routes or whether he is fine with Run & Shoot style routes. I am still not absolutely sure what Mario wants apart from a power run game with aggressive downfield blocking. @Lance Roffers

Whatever they decide on shouldn't be so hard to teach that it takes more than one offseason to implement properly.

Seems like it would have already happened by now. I don’t get why he would have him out recruiting if he was planning on firing him? That’s just being dishonest to the recruits. Maybe we’re going to keep Gattis as a Co-OC/WR coach and bring in a new Co-OC/QB Coach that calls plays?
Do we have reason not to trust @Cribby on this? This is how Mario operates. He’s shown this multiple times. There are people who move fast, there are people who move slow and then there is Mario. Josh Gattis will not be the OC next season.

Wellllll...except for our baseball coach....

I got a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad feeling about this.

This is up from my baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad feeling yesterday…

Gattis and his stare offense will be here next season.Mario today is Dec. 8th.Do you know where your new OC is ?

Agreed

all the dummies on here keep referencing Saban. "Saban changed his style, he went AiR rAiD, he went spread".. no dummies, he didn't. he hired NFL guys to run an NFL style offense and recruited 3 five star WRS EVERY SINGLE CYCLE to make it work and they struggled more than usual this yr despite Bryce Young because they had a huge dropoff at WR from what they were used to

as bad as Gattis was, it was obvious from game 2 this offense had no chance with the personnel at WR no matter what play calls he ran and who he decided to have on the field until he started giving Young and Ladson more snaps.
