Who asked for finesse? And that's a lie anyway because what Dennis Erickson was running was considered a finesse passing attack for it's day
Yeah people are pigeon holing offenses here. Clemson 100% won with a finesse offense twice. Bama while still physical, has gone to a wide open offense as well since Tua arrived on campus back. Also lets not forget LSU in 2019. Bottom line is that 7 out of 8 of the last chips were won by spread and open passing style offenses, unless someone tries to say that what Urban ran was physical first type football...

I agree 100%. If you look through my post history, a recurring theme is Bama did away with being a plodding, power offense after Dabo got done with them. That was almost a decade ago. Unfortunately, living in Atlanta and with the friends I have here, I know more and hear more about Alabama and Georgia than I ever care to. It is also why I was not on the Lane Train. The word multiple gets thrown around a lot, but you really do need to be multiple on both sides.

When I said finesse, I really meant Oklahoma, Ohio State in recent years, etc.
whispers Ryan day isnt urban and ive seen that he could be on a warm seat soon

I mean it was a different game back then. We still had guys like Stephen McGuire.

Agree 100%. Urban had some extremely physical teams. Shoot his most famous player was a QB who couldn't throw and just approached the game like a Neanderthal.
Once again, the issue people have with what Marion apparently wants isnt about it being physical, its about it being antiquated and frankly doesnt take advantage of the SFLA athlete. Its why running a two gap 3-4 in Miami never made sense as well when Golden got here. Stay physical, we need to be physical, but running two TE sets regularly and plodding routes that take forever to develop and require timing which requires and athlete to over think is what concerns people.

Generally agree, but I think given the athletes and mismatches we have at TE, we could still run 2 TEs and be exciting. The rest you are 100% spot on. It is not about power, finesse, pass, run, it is the overall approach and way Gattis went about it.

I guess after 2hrs everyone in here forgets that Cribby and DMoney said Gattis is gone and need someone new to state the same thing or they freak out
To me there is a difference between “as good as gone” and “gone.”

As good as gone means highly likely, where there are very little circumstances in which the direction “him being gone“ can change, BUT nonetheless, those circumstances exist.

Gone means what is means. He gone. It’s official like a whistle. There is no return.

As of now I can’t tell if anyone, including Cribby, is truly able to decipher between the two.

Sure, sounds anal, sounds crazy, sounds ridiculous perhaps and maybe it is. But at the end of the day, I want what Wisconsin has, a vacancy and a subsequent filling with a top notch OC and one thing is for certain, Miami is NOT at that point, and at a time when it should be and soon NEED to be.

It’s a sad state of affairs when the fans have simple fixes to what’s been plaguing the team for last 20+ years, but the people running the show are to stubborn/stupid to make the right decisions. It’s football…. Doesn’t require rocket science to be good at it/out scheme other coaches. It’s an incredibly easy game to figure out.

Sure but when you run that offense and have players like Inniss, and then J Smith and JoJo coming out a year later, it gives them pause on whether or they want to join that offense. Ultimately IMHO our problem was two fold this year and what really killed us was that we just couldn't execute at all, let alone worrying about the style we played. That said, best believe that even if Gattis' offense was more successful, we would still struggle landing top WRs like Inniss. That style of ball just doesnt feed WRs the same way.

This. If that "style of offense" is good enough for the #1 and #2 teams in America, and Mario knows what kind of players he needs and is determined to get them, why on earth would we want to be something different?

You know, all the NASCAR cars run an identical template.

But there are some drivers that are just better than others at driving. And some crew chiefs that are just better than others at preparing the cars.

Gattis may have the same toolbox as everyone else, but that doesn't mean he knows what to do with it.

True. And for the record, I just rewatched 1993 UM-F$U on ESPN, and got to see Donnell Bennett and James Stewart smashing some mouths.

Funny thing is, nearly all of "2022 football" is just running the 1993 Erickson one-back offense...

Lotta ways to skin a cat. South Florida's resources probably lean the way you are describing, but we have always recruited TEs well.

See WR reverse pass with Romello instead of BSmith

See TVD QB run in the redzone at Texas AM

Gattis very clearly doesn’t “have IT” as a plsycaller

"Physicality" on offense has won one title in the playoff era and that was last year with a generational level NFL loaded defense on a team that was dropping bags like no other for 5 years to build their roster. They also had the most important element Mario and Miami currently do not and that's actual coaching.

Not only that, it took Bama having their main playmakers out with injuries as well....

So you're saying that dudes on a message board are actually better at gameplanning and playcalling than guys who do it for a living. Like, somehow all of the knowledgable football people took jobs in insurance and finance instead of in football.

As it relates to Josh Gattis as an OC, I would rather this message board devise a game plan and call the plays during games
