I agree with everything
But until a new OC is in place I’m checking out
This team doesn’t deserve my attention until then
Manny would fire Gattis.... Lets see if mario got that dog in him
****ed me tf off!I loved the sequence where Knighton rips off a huge run to the 4-5? and Gattis proceeds to slow the game down as usual with Jacurri checking in, giving Pitt time to regroup.
Anyone with a brain hurries up there while the defense is reeling.
"Gattis went to Brown when TVD went down then put Garcia in with the ball on the one yard line."
He did the exact thing against FSU. Only... he did it with Jacurri... TWICE. He brought in the true freshman, 3rd string QB, to start 2 drives from his own 2 yard line, down 14 the first time and 21 the second, against our biggest rival.
It gets worse.
The first play to start BOTH drives were runs up the middle, with the walk on billionth string RB.
It gets worse.
At that point in the game, Jacurri hadn't attempted a pass. So when Gattis wanted to call a pass play, he pulled Jacurri to bring in "passing QBs" TVD and Garcia.
It gets worse.
FSU figured out what Gattis was doing (so did the announcers who both called him out). After the walk on rush attempt, and the TVD pass attempt, Gattis brought Jacurri back in for.. you guessed it. A QB run. Since Jacurri STILL hadn't attempted a pass, FSU stacked the box when they saw him, stuffed the QB and the drive stalled.
It gets worse.
Down 21, to start the SECOND drive, Gattis ran the same play to start the drive. Run up the middle with the walk on billionth string RB. FSU was sitting on the run again because Jacurri still hadn't attempted a pass. He left Jacurri in for the QB run on second down, then pulled him on 3rd down for passing QB Garcia. FSU dropped into coverage when the passing QB came in and picked Garcia off.
It gets worse.
As you pointed out, the mf'er didn't learn his lesson, and put the 3rd string QB in to start a drive from his own 1 yard line tonight.
**** like that.. basically telling your opponent when you're attempting a pass vs a run is ******* lunacy. N/m the limited playbook and the arrogance. Putting your 3rd string QB in to start drives from their own 1 and 2 yard line is.. its crazy. Like check his bank account for betting against his team and throwing games level crazy. Its some **** someone would do in a video game just to make the other team lose.
The TLDR version is I have never seen a coordinator do what Gattis did this year. Not at any level. He is the worst coordinator I have ever seen. And even now, after everything that's gone wrong, if he's as arrogant as some have said, he's still blaming everyone else.
This is why getting rid of Ponce was huge to me. Allowing the OC to pick his guys and get continuity on that side of the ball is crucial. We should have known Mario’s guy + Gattis wouldn’t have meshed and had no cohesion. Additionally, Ponce is his friend, so I’m sure it was tough to let him go.I agree that Gattis should go-now-tonight.
But, I also think that Mario’s hiring approach played a role. Hire the coordinators you want. Give them a budget and let them hire their assistants.
Have Ammon Richards get him out.Where’s our moving company plug?
And I'm sure he sprinkled in some check w/ me on those abomination plays. You know, to make sure the opponent defense caught what he did.
If he understood his limits, he wouldn't be fleecing UM for 8 mil a year. Mario is a freaking con man that needs ten times more talent than the other team to win consistently. This is what many on here wanted. Talent. They thought that just bringing talent in would mean a 2000-2002 run again. It's BS. Other teams have talent, too. Mario is NOT going to build a team so talented it can out talent everyone. At some point he has to coach that talent, and that just doesn't happen with him. He'd be a great recruiting coordinator, but he's crap as a head coach. Oregon should have done better and was lucky the Pac 12 was extremely down for a few years while he had his little run. He's a QB killer. His head is stuck in 1992. His strength coach has a history of getting players injured. His staff decisions are beyond questionable. He doesn't understand timeouts, which is a HUGE red flag. If you can't understand timeouts and how to use them, what the **** else are you oblivious to? That's football 101, and he struggles with it.This is why getting rid of Ponce was huge to me. Allowing the OC to pick his guys and get continuity on that side of the ball is crucial. I think Mario understands his limits and is willing to put his pride/friendships to the side in order to see Miami succeed again. We’ll know for sure based on the OC hired.
I keep going back to review his coaching and can't agree with you more. Even with elite talent, we'll struggle because of his limitations. If he understood his limits, he wouldn't be fleecing UM for 8 mil a year. We have a golden **** for a head coach. It stinks, but it cost a **** of a lot.
Any sources for this or just a gut feeling? I legit hope that this true. I liked the samples i saw if Ponce at other stops and this looked nothing like it.Believe one of the issues is that Gattis didn't really USE Ponce to any degree. They reportedly had "different" ideas on what the QB's should be doing and as OC Gattis is the boss on offense. Believe the entire offense would have been more productive with Ponce running it. This was the Gattis offense ... period.
It was reported by a couple of sites ... something like "Gattis and Ponce give the QB's different instructions ... have different ideas on how they should be working". Also been reported that Gattis has alienated the position coaches ... that would include Ponce. They aren't "working together" and the result seems that "they aren't working" period as Gattis cancels them out. Seems like Gattis is THE cancer in the offensive unit with the result that the offense is totally dysfunctional.Any sources for this or just a gut feeling? I legit hope that this true. If my read on the situation is correct, I think your anger at Ponce is misdirected. Ponce didnt seem to have all that much involvement in Gattis scheme. Im guessing Ponce wanted nothing to do with Gattis' garbage.
Again, the invisible hand will tell the tale. We'll see what the marketplace thinks of both of them if/when they take their next job.

Mario said in his presser tonight that what they’ve been successful doing everywhere else, “hasn’t translated here.”
He speaks so much about Miami being different, so maybe it finally hit him that what works elsewhere won’t work here.
His demise will be in the history books…from winning the Broyles Award to having the worst OC seasons I’ve ever seen
