Demote Gattis to WR analyst. Find him a nice, quite cubicle away from the remaining staff, or better yet, he can work from home. He can email his homework.
Eat the remaining financial obligation. Lesson learned. This stuff happens to every program.
Gattis’ rep will take a major hit.

Hire new OC/QB and compatible WR coach.

i'll be you his contract says he has to be the OC, so a demotion is a constructive termination and he would be entitled to a buy out.

I mean, they hired Mario before Rad and asked Mario if he was cool with them hiring Rad. Couple that with a guaranteed 8 year contract and spending so much more money than they had previously that as long as Mario isn't breaking any laws (or terms of the contract), he's not answering to anyone until year 5 at the earliest.

Counterpoint: Banner planes, billboards, even ads taken out in newspapers can motivate the "powers to be," to put a stop to a barrage of negative publicity by terminating the source of said negative publicity.

If it's piled on - incessantly - those who are most intolerant to negative publicity - will try to avoid ANY at all costs.

Not that I'm suggesting anything - it's way too early to go full ******, and the man must be given a fair opportunity to make good decisions and then perform.

But patience, is not everlasting.

I think Mario has this - but he must at all times remember exactly - EXACTLY - where he IS - what resources are LOCAL - and not try to imitate FORMER run, run, run - Nick Saban. Even Saban has been forced to abandon that BS.

Innovate! Don't just try to duplicate.

Fine. Forget the first item, just fire him.

Miami hires a $90M HC with an Top staff budget, huge investments in infrastructure.

I can’t imagine $3M to kick Gattis off the premises is a real issue.

But at the same time...

EVERYONE in cfb is running WAY more than they ran 5 years ago...And it's not like Oregon's run ratio was extreme either.

There is no way than any competent contract written up by even a half *** lawyer in this field wouldn’t cover that kind of scenario and make sure that the coach in question wasn’t gonna get screwed that way.

Or if it's buyout-related, the timing might have very little to do with Mario and more to do with when the cheapest time to fire him is, or what is owed to whom and when. If the holdup is related to buyout $$$ and contract clauses, I actually feel better that it's not just Mario dragging his heels. It still sucks because now we're at the mercy of the lawyers' timelines, but at least it's not because Mario has some twisted loyalty issues or he's striking out on replacements or whatever.

Yea hopefully that is the case

I would NEVER suggest a great running game isn't mandatory. Productive.

I'm a firm believer in basics first, innovation, speed, and then guile and finesse for complete opponent destruction.

Mario is pretty much starting THIS season with a fairly clean slate.

This Fall, he gets to trot them out and we'll all see the results. Good, Bad, or Butt ugly.

Actually appreciate Mario making sure his guys get landing spots but this is even late to me. By this time the players that are dedicated could have been getting a heads up on learning the new system in preparation for spring ball.
Playing devils advocate, I think the first month or so is strictly s&c then they probably actually hit the field early march.
