I tried to create something that would give everyone a chuckle, but not be so ridiculous that it would disrupt conversation.

Also: It is my gamertag so if any fellow canes would like to play fortnite sometime, DM me!

Another good one, although that’s tricky too, b/c he went straight from WR Coach to becoming a HC.

So far, the only name that’s fitting the criteria is Chip Kelly.
Urban was a DB coach actually when he first started and played on D along with that spent time coaching on defense until he switched to WR coach

Right; what I’m saying is he didn’t go from OC (calling plays) to becoming a HC. He went from WR coach at ND to becoming a HC at the G5 level.

@Rellyrell since this is gonna get deleted anyways, what's up with the Nike situation. want more canes gear but not wanting to buy the leftovers from three stripe life

It’s actually pretty common. More common than most people think.

Common & successful are not mutually exclusive. That wasn’t the point. The point was who played defensive in school & became a “successful OC” at any level. Not who became a successful HC or DC, but actually a successful play caller on Offense. Right now, it’s Chip. Briles played both offense & defense in school.

I never saw the original question so I just started figuring it out until somebody set me straight on wtf the question was in the first place 🤷‍♂️

By all accounts, a switch is imminent. However, it’s all about the length of time left (4 yrs come July 1st) vs. buyout window. What makes sense for both parties.

Heres the thing about playing position vs coaching position: Football in itself isn't the type of sport where you should only be qualified for one position. It doesn't fit.

Offensive players have to understand defense, defensive techniques and coverages and vice versa. Joe Gibbs worked with Madden at SDSU until Madden fired him after beating him in a scrimmage. Bill Walsh coached defensive backs for three years and even wrote a Master Thesis on PE for defensive football players. Tom Landry was a punter and Vince Lombardi played interior in college at Fordham.

However, it's simply an easier transition from playing to coaching if you let someone go from his natural position as a player and translate that into coaching. The amount of QBs who became OCs, especially under the Air Raid tree, is absurd. It makes more sense to do it that way, however, its not necessary.
