Would you rather him hire just any OC in order to secure (possibly) portal WRs right now? Or would you rather him hire the OC he wants most?

You guys are funny. You want him to hire an OC, by golly ANY OC, in order to secure some flood of portal WRs (even though that’s not guaranteed). And yet if it’s not the guy you want, you’ll say oh my god Mario is an idiot, he hired THAT guy?? How bout we just get it right this time?

Yes, I’d have liked Mario to fire Gattis the day the season ended and hired Garrett Riley or Kendal Briles, etc already. But he didn’t. That doesn’t mean the off-season is a ****show. All of you have been told Gattis will not be back. That in itself is a win already.
Fair. The only thing I would say we are losing a lot of opportunities with top flight WRs. And as we saw last year the options are significantly diminished in Spring portal vs fall portal.

To me though I can get on board the "let Mario work" approach if the OC he hires is a home run. If he took all this time to help Gattis, and let all these WRs go , and hires a Mid OC then that is gross negligence on his part.

Sacrificing not upgrading one of the weakest positions on your roster because you didn’t want to hurt a grown man’s feelings is a giant red flag for Mario.

There’s still time with the portal so maybe it all works out but this philosophy has to be adjusted with how quick a major talent acquisition phase goes now.

What’s crazier is, you notice Mario is supposedly conveniently waiting for an “NFL” OC or QB coach that miraculously advances far in the playoffs 😂😂. It just seems to be a convenient rumor that some on here come up with . The NFL personnel that lose in the first round or never made the playoffs aren’t inferred to be the hold up for Mario’s timeline. Strange how that happens

Every week that goes by is one less week for the new OC to build a relationship with the players and other staff, and start installing the playbook

I refuse to believe it’s the main reason. I think it’s something that’s being thrown around out there but I think the real reason is that Mario is still looking for his OC. Even if that’s the case, it’s a bad decision because he is squandering goodwill for recruiting purposes.

He could have fired gattis 2 months ago and could have gone through the ESD cycle by selling recruits on the promise of a better offense. Instead, he’s fielding “is your OC leaving?” questions during visits.

I say this half joking but even having a vacant OC/WR opening would have given us a better chance to add talent. At least Mario can sell change and a new, exciting offense. Maybe we land a guy or 2, maybe we don’t but it’s now been proven that we got nothing with Gattis hanging around (publicly at least).

Ferman just said something similar.

He says that he doesn't expect Gattis to be the OC this season but that no one in the building- Mario- is looking to embarrass him by publicly firing him, etc. He was a Broyles Award winner and prior to coming to Miami, had a solid career. It isn't a secret that things didn't work out last season - it wasn't a good fit for either party in a number of ways. But the amount of injury to the offensive side of the ball did not help either. Ferman says they are giving him time to explore his options - likely in the NFL, but not exclusively- and eventually this will work itself out.
In some regard, we have to respect this approach by Mario - if it’s the case. Long term, it’ll help get new coaches as coaching turnover is rapid.

Short term, this approach is taking a lot of goodwill from Mario with fans and obviously recruits. Hopefully, this gets resolved sooner than later.

So these recruits can't process selling a change to a new exciting offense, and "we are still evaluating all our offensive staff at this time"?

Again, for the 50th time, how do you know what Mario is telling offensive recruits? I agree with your statement on the surface. But YOU and the public think Gattis is hanging around and it’s costing us recruits. You really think Mario is bringing in offensive recruits and they’re just not talking about the offense? They just walk around campus and talk about the weather? Come on.

Why would it have been to the dismay of Mario? Wasn’t word we wanted him to get scooped up elsewhere? Who the **** knows what’s going on.
that's a lie lol. This has never been to the "dismay" of Mario. Mario was telling people since FSU game that he would not be here. Mario has been working to help Gattis land another job and is trying to salvage his career and preserve some value so as to not wreck him.

Bring me Dan Mullen.
At first I thought there would no chance with Mullen because he's a cornball and by all accounts not a great recruiter so I figured no shot Mario would want his non recruiting *** on the staff. But now seeing how Gattis has been completely asleep at the wheel as a recruiter, I don't think Mario would care about Mullens lack of recruiting ability especially considering the fact that at the very least Mullen can actually coach.

IMO, there were 3 big factors for our bad season. First, we had a very depleted roster this season. Manny didn't leave the cupboard stacked and there were an unusual number of injuries. Second, compound that with poor execution outside of a handful of players and you'll get a lousy season every time. When a receiver is supposed to run 10 yards, but breaks off his route at 8 after TVD has already thrown the ball, it makes TVD look inaccurate and it makes Gattis look like he can't call a good play. We had all the warning signs about players not putting in work or watching film, and those things translate on the field. Look to Harley's transformation and Kam's breakout season as evidence.

Finally, when a guy like Gattis comes in and may not be creatively offensive minded enough to scheme around these weaknesses, he's going to look terrible. He may not be as awful as portrayed here, just as Enos wasn't, but when it's reached this level of toxicity, it's probably in everyone's best interest to part ways. It might come out after the fact that Mario has been talking with candidates the whole time. The big concern with poor WR recruiting may not be as big of a concern if he sees this as a 3-4 year rebuild. It would be nice if Gattis could find a landing spot quickly so we can move on from this painful chapter.

The only thing I know is that if they don't put more effort into making games fun to watch, ticket sales and donations will dry up. Even in our worst years, there was a glimmer of hope that we'd win big games. This season you just never knew if we'd get completely blown out or eke out a win.

The fact that an in-demand WR portal guy had to answer a question from Gaby about whether Gattis was there and if he spoke with him is absolutely bonkers. That sums up the entire problem with this in one story.

Why would Mario be dismayed that Gattis interviewed with Iowa if he is trying to give him time to find a landing spot? And how is going to PSU as a WR coach accomplishing the goal of letting Gattis save face. None of this makes sense.
