Plus do people understand where Oregon is located? They have almost zero in state (or even near state) talent and are located 125 miles from the closest major airport. Yeah, they have Nike going for them that certainly helps, but lets not act like Oregon recruits itself (especially since most of the time Mario was there NIL was not a thing - and certainly not like it is this year).

They also secured the #1 class after going 9-1 in the covid season. It’s not like they went 9-4 and got the top class

It’s not a discredit, it’s reality. These posters thinking we’re just going to automatically sign the top class every year because…Mario aren’t living in the real world. Mario is a great recruiter but just chalking up automatic top 3 classes is overestimating.

Stop.

LAX to Eugene is a 2 hour flight. PHX to Eugene is a 2.5 hour flight. LAS to Eugene is 2 hours. SEA to Eugene is just over an hour. SFO to Eugene is just under 2 hours. All direct flights on commercial jets from 5 of the top 15 population MSA.

Eugene isn’t hidden by trees behind a mystical mountain.

Top 3 classes are normally followed by great seasons. Besides, you don’t need a top 3 class to compete. A top 10 class will suffice if you have the staff and system to execute. Either way, I would be shocked if Miami is out of the top 10 for decades to come.

Mario is arguably the best recruiter in the country. NIL certainly helps and is needed, but most of the work to close the deal is on staff.

Mario did say it was going to take 3-4 years to turn the program around …
Looks like he’s definitely going at that pace.

Year 1 - Fix the offensive line.
Year 2 - Hire a new OC after 2 miserably years.
Year 3 - Hire a new DC after Steele retires.
Year 4 - Start all over again.

I can only guess Mario was waiting on Sean McVay to leave the Rams but found out yesterday that McVay would be staying with them…..so the process starts anew….gotta be who he was waiting for.

I believe Sean Payton is the guy he’s waiting on now….
