I don’t think anyone is saying Mario isn’t a good recruiter, he’s better than previous Oregon head coaches…but he obviously used Nike money to his advantage in recruiting, who wouldn’t? If you don’t think money matters in recruiting, maybe we should tell Ruiz to go kick rocks

Ok, but you said because of his Nike backing. The 10 years prior to his arrival, Oregon recruiting averaged a ranking of around 21, with him, around 7-8. Same Nike money. But hey it was all Nike and now Ruiz…..

Mario’s classes at Oregon were ranked 13th, 8th, 14th and 7th.

Very solid recruiting but we need to get over the idea that he’s just automatically going to sign top 3 classes every year. He’s never signed a top 5 class. This year’s class would have been his best ever had McClain signed.
It ain’t over til it’s over.

I never said it was the only reason, Im saying it’s a significant factor. Was Oregon a bad program before him? no, Oregon was going to NC’s before him even with worse recruiting than he had there. Was Alabama recruiting worse before Mario or since he left? No. he has had undeniable advantages everywhere he has been since fiu, and he has exploited them. It’s not a knock, it’s just acknowledging reality.

He signed THIS class after going 5-7. And not just 5-7 but an EMBARRASSING 5-7. This season was a disaster for negative headlines for Mario. And he still signed a top 7 class.

If he can get us to 8-4/9-3 (I hate typing that because we should expect 10-2. But even 8-4 would be a major improvement over '22) next year and improving into the future, top 5 class is almost guaranteed.
I would also assume better classes if they can improve on the field. How much on field improvement we see is the real question. We could easily become the new Texas A&M and win 7-8 games a year despite having great classes. Or, Mario can put his personal philosophy aside and hire coordinators that know what they’re doing and become a real contender. My whole point is that we’re not just going to roll up top three classes automatically every year just because Mario is the coach. If we lay another **** next season we’ll be lucky to sniff a top 10 class. That would be a miracle. I don’t think any coach has ever pulled back to back top 10 classes with back to back losing seasons.

In regards to Nike money at Oregon, it’s kind of important to have the financial backing if you’re going to recruit highly. Our recruiting budget at Miami is the biggest it’s ever been and we have boosters throwing out NIL money like candy. That’s not a knock against Mario, it’s just a fact that you need money to get the job done. Nobody is pulling a top 5 class at a school without a huge recruiting budget.

Oregon began ascending under Mike Bellotti from 1995-2008. He went 116-55, with 12 bowl games in 14 seasons. Chip Kelly, 2009-12, went 46-7, with a Fiesta Bowl, two Rose Bowls and a Natl Champ Game. Mark Helfrich went 37-16, with another Rose Bowl and another NCG.

All three of those predecessors of Mario's did as good or better than he did with the Ducks.

fair, but they were terrible in Helfrichs last two years and not good / rebuilding still under Willie.

Mario built them back into a good team. It wasn’t on auto pilot for him.
He can do the same here, it’s really not that hard to win at Miami. We’ve just made it seem that way.

were not winning 8 next year w this roster. prolly 5-6 wins again.
We still play in the ACC.

Depending who he hires as OC and what other staff changes he makes and injuries of course.

Our roster last year was projected to go 9-3.

He woefully underachieved.

We'll be projected to go 8-4 or better this year.

This is so flawed and completely skewed but go off, sure. Let it all out.

Texas A&M had the #1 recruiting class 4 years into Jimbo's tenure there after never winning more than 9 games.

But they never had a losing season so Mario needs to end that obviously.

Go look at Oregon’s ranking’s prior to Mario then get back to me. Absurd to discredit him as a recruiter.
