Can someone articulate what type of offense they’d actually like to see?

We’re not going full air raid and rightfully so, football is and always will be a line of scrimmage game. At the same time the geometry of the college game gives the offense an advantage.

What’s the sweet spot?
I want someone that adjusts to the opponents week to week and also during the game. I want an OC that schemes players open and doesn't ever blame "execution" when something is going wrong, even if it's true. I want an OC that uses speed and space, that uses the field vertically and horizontally. I want an OC that will stick to what's working, or adjust when it's not. Someone that puts the right players in the right positions at the right times (aka plays players to their strengths)

Mostly, i want an OC that i don't feel the average CIS poster could outperform. Someone that is actually smart.

To actually answer your question, i want someone that runs a real power spread but mixes in elements of air raid at times.

What if:

Nobody wants to work for Mario?

Look at what happened to Gattis? He was being considered for P5 head coaching jobs last year and now he's at risk of getting fired. Has a Broyles award winner ever failed that fast?

We already know he didn't get his first choice at DC or OC last year.

What if he literally can't get a better OC than Gattis?

There's all kinds of narratives out there about him.

He micromanages.
He's demanding, especially in recruiting.
He meddles with the offense.
He wants to hire his whole staff and not let the coordinates hire/fire.

What if those narratives are keeping even more people away this year than they did last year?

That would make the theory that we could get nearly any coach we want and that Mario has a Rolodex of people that want to work him incorrect… and that simply cannot be true according to CIS legend and lore…

I’m holding out hope for a home run hire…

I also put a Blanton’s horse topper under my pillow in hopes the Bourbon Fairy will bring me some unicorns…

If Cristobal hired Mullen, it would top Riley. But Mullen isn't coaching a NFL team so there isn't any plausible reason why it hasn't happened, if it was going to happen.
Forgot about Mullen tbh but I was thinking of another. But now that I think more, fired P5 don’t go back to OC unless it’s Bama.

Who are some realistic names that would appease the mob? I'm sure they've been mentioned but other than Riley and Mullet I've been too busy ****-posting and de-railing to notice anyone else mentioned.

After Cristobal hires and fires Arroyo Ina couple of years, he'll probably see what Chudzinksi is up to. So he could just fast forward and go straight to Chud now.

I don’t trust Mario to make that hire

What is the point of keeping Gattis around if he’s not even doing the #1 thing Mario expects from his staff which is recruiting?? We can see he can’t coach or scheme up an offense.

A few years ago I’d assume we were broke and couldn’t get someone else in here or buyout Gattis contract…. Mario is making this harder on himself there is too many dudes out there that run successful offenses that can get us a top 50(wow that’s pathetic to set the bar so low) offense year one.

You can make an argument that Saban micromanages…is demanding…meddles and demands to hire his whole staff. 🤗

Just sayin’…doesn’t mean I think Mario is on Saban’s level.

Still sticking with Gattis back next year.. still hope I’m wrong

Jokes on you then, everyone knows that Cristobal is just waiting for the Italian Football League pre-season meetings to finish.

He's got an eye on the OC of the Milano Seamen. They finished 8-0 last year.

Yeah... But he also wins and produces head coaches and 1st round picks at a staggering rate.

Mario's not even close to having that kind of equity/benefit of the doubt.

A legit OC has to wonder if going to work for Mario could tank their career or set them back years. Same with a WR.
