My whole point is why would someone defend a coach who’s gone completely awol? I’m not disputing anything you said, I just think it’s weird for a player to do that.

Because some kids are class acts, raised right, and are respectful/grateful to folks who've helped them or mentored them, even if those folks have shortcomings.
