Jordan Lyle is not Hurt

Fletcher just went 6-55 yds-9.2 ypc

The backlash against Fletcher is this thread is surprising.

But I guess whenever the fanbase wants the backup to have more carries, they feel the need to tear down the guy in front of him (justified or not)

I get the excitement over Lyle, but there's no need to trash Fletcher.
My opinion on Fletcher is based on his body of work, not one game.

I don’t understand the being down on Fletcher at all. I think he continues to be much better than suggested on here.

I think I’m watching a different game than others when I get on here and see his performance criticized.

My comment wasn't directed at you - I've got no problem with your thoughts on Fletcher

I'm just surprised in general at the overall comments about Fletcher in this thread (especially coming off a good game).

IMO Fletcher is a good/above average RB (sounds like I'm a little higher than you) who's rock solid & dependable, but not a great/stud RB (I agree with you there's some here way overrating him).

And with Lyle - this last game was great (I mean really, really good), but I still want to see more.

Lyle is likely the best RB on the team next year.

Although I suspect they'll continue to try force-feed the Fletcher narrative & make him RB1.

It'll be interesting to see if Ajay Allen & CJJr stick around.
Exactly - The real "Caveman" ball is force feeding Fletcher, when Lyle should be getting the majority of the carries.

I've been saying the exact same thing about all our RBs all season. Martinez is clearly the best and provides the most in the pass game and 2min situations. Lyle is clearly the most talented and our long-term starter. Chris Johnson jr has the potential and has made impactful plays when given the opportunity, and can just generally be used as an offensive weapon and way to distract defenses. Allen is a very solid and tough runner, but is at most a good rotational backup for us and can be a guy you trust to start a game if you need him to.

All you actually have to do is watch how they run to know that Fletcher is purely a north runner that can't make guys miss basically at all. He's a big strong dude with medium speed that will fall forward when he goes down. But I'd say the disapointing thing is it doesn't really feel like he breaks all that many tackles or is really running through a whole bunch of arm tackles. Feels like he gets tripped up quite easily. He can block fine but cant catch or make plays in the passing game really cause he can't make guys miss in the open field. I'd trust him to be a guy that picks up 3 yards when we need it. Someone was trying to say we have sonic and knuckles like the Lions do, but the more apt thing as far as Fletcher is concerned would be like saying he is more Like when the Lions had Jamaal Williams. Like he was good/useful for what they needed/asked him to do. And he led the NFL in rushing TDs, because he feasted on goal line carries. But at the end of the day Jamaal Williams is not a great runner and shouldn't be near a starting role. That's what Fletcher is to me. Force Feeding him the ball wouldn't be good.

Id say 2025

Lyle - 16+
Fletcher - 8-12
Cj/Allen - 8-12

We're currently averaging 33 carries per game.

Carries per game are skewed by QB runs & sacks

Martinez/Fletcher/Lyle/Allen are actually only averaging 26 carries per game.

There's always less to around than you'd think. It's really, really hard to manage the carries/touches.

I definitely expect Allen to portal, and I sort of expect CJ to portal or change position.

We also won't likely have nearly as potent of a passing attack and likely run the ball a bit more next year. I just wrote that breakdown based on a % though. Its basically saying >50% to lyle. Then Fletcher gets ~50% of remainder, with Allen+CJjr combining to split the remainder of that... If it's 26/game then 13+ to Lyle, 6 to Fletcher, 6 to CJjr/Allen combined ... Maybe you have more goalline work so Fletcher gets more carries one game, maybe you want to attack the outside so CJJr gets a few more... etc.

Fletcher gets going when he is in space..ironically enough. He doesn’t have the wiggle to make something happen if the hole isn’t there.

Once he gets churning and those legs moving he’s dangerous running north and south and he’s had a lot of success on dumps offs.

CJ24 is the most disappointing player for me this year, he plays scared. Not sure he will ever be relevant here, RB is probably the easiest position to have success when you are still green. He lacks the instincts IMO.
