Johnnie Dixon to Ohio Taint

If he committed here everybody would be jumping for joy and saying he's a huge get. But since people don't think he's coming here it "not a big deal", "He's not a once in a lifetime talent", "WRs grow on trees in south florida", etc.

It's amazing the way you all rationalize these decisions whether they are in favor of us or against us.

Dixon is about like Malcolm Lewis coming out of high school

He's a good player, no doubt, but not a program changer

He is more athletic than Lewis but not as refined nor as strong. Lewis is pretty nice in n out of his cuts, not as big of a down field threat. Different players all in all, but I do agree on overall talent. Really good players but not elite

That top end speed with Dixon makes him a bit more dynamic

I would be happy if he picked us, and it would be a "good get", but I have NEVER thought Dixon was a gamechanger or would make or break this class. Now, you tell me we land Rudolph or Cook, THEN I would be jacked. Dixon is a good prospect and has a lot of upside, but he hasnt exactly set the world on fire his senior year. He's not a cant miss superstar. Ive been saying all along, that Id love to have him, but if he doesnt come, meh, its not a huge impact in this class. A guy like Kaaya, Yearby, Valentine, Hester, Cook, those are recruits that are much more important IMO. We have Langham, Berrios and Brady, and are probably looking to add one more, either Griffin if he quals, Rudolph if we can snag him, Dixon, or maybe the Cali Kid. Its not a huge position of need right now, and frankly, Dixon is not SO much better than the guys we have already on board, that its worth the stress.

Hence the down field comment........

I'd personally be disappointed if we didn't get a single one out of Lane/Dixon/Rudolph, but not getting one of them doesn't make this class a failure (I know you didn't claim it did). We still have talent at every position in this class and not a single one of those guys is a Coley level receiver. Not to take anything away from them because I'd be thrilled to have any 1 2 or 3 of them. They all have potential but none of their films look as impressive as Coley's did.

I care more about getting a good QB and solid OL in because we have seen what happens with you are loaded with 5 star receivers and have no QB or a QB with no time to get them the ball (UF). Someone had a good point referring to the 2010 class. Look at all the top receivers that we didn't pull... and instead we got little 3 star Allen Hurns. In hindsight there isn't a single one of them I'd take over him (Ivan McCartney, Chris Dunkley, Dejoshua Johnson, Quinton Dunbar just to name a few).

Not getting any of them isn't the end of the world but I agree it's a problem and striking out on all the local recruits at a given position like that needs to be kept to a minimum or eliminated going forward.

Live in Austin and some Urban Meyer talk to Horns. Don't know how realistic but he is on their radar

*crickets* in here

this is really 100% done deal to OSU?

I've personally never seen a recruitment end positively for the Canes when there is this much chatter and smoke around his commitment on the day of. If he picks us, then he would have trolled and lied to everyone that is leaking this info, including most likely OSU staff and his own coaches. I doubt that's the case unless the pattern is about to be broken. Buck

OSU commits saying he is picking them. He would have to be a master troll.

Which I doubt.

Maybe he just remembers the Fiasco Bowl and this is payback?

Thinking back to when everyone was so confident about Dixon and my man gogeta kept saying don't trust Daniels. I was always like whatever on Dixon because up until recently he hadn't produced much on the field but I just hate to see us lose a guy that our staff wanted so badly and especially to freakin Ohio State. Tough blow if true.

The saddest part is going to be the ridiculously over the top and nasty reaction when this kid picks OSU...as if it hasn't been all over the place for almost two weeks. I guess it will be a good preview of Judgment Day (AKA Jan 2)

I can't imagine Daniels not playing a role in this kid going all the freakin way to Ohio to play for Urban Meyer

Why does everyone assume that the staff wants Dixon "badly"? What objectively shows that we have recruited him any harder than any number of other kids who we were in competition with and that had us in his final few? I mean there is no question we want him, but everyone keeps assuming he is at the top of the staff's list. Based on what? Dixon morphed from a "good WR", to this monster elite talent when Rudoph and Lane seemed like they were out of reach. It was the fact that Dixon seemed to be the likeliest option, where he suddenly became this monster stud. Fact is, we dont know how high the staff has him ranked. We obvious want him, but we dont know if he was at the top of the board.
