For about 20 years we’ve been begging for the Samoa pipeline. We finally get some traction with it and y’all want to fire the dude who makes it possible.

The first signing period hasn’t even happened yet.

So let’s see how the year closes out before we get all hasty with the firing.

As I said before, then make him Director of Polynesian recruiting. Bring in a more accomplished DL recruiter. As much as we want to hype up Jason Taylor, even he admitted he is still learning how to recruit. He's said he's not used to having to do things like send 10,000 text messages to a recruit to "show love." Maybe he turns into a recruiting monster, but he's not quite there yet. So we have an inexperienced but promising recruiter and a bad recruiter as the DL coaching combo. That's not going to get the job done.

Fact is that neither Big Joe nor Mario has ever had a DT drafted. We need to at least have some selling point. Charlie Partridge is literally the best in the business. If Cristobal wants to bring back the U of old, then it starts with having an elite staff. You know how much Partridge is making at Pitt? 535k. That is pocket change compared to what some DTs are asking for in NIL $. If we have a limited budget, then use it wisely. Hire Partridge and let him work with Highsmith to identify underrated talent. I wouldnt be complaining if I saw FSU get a 5 star DT high schooler and pay him insane amounts of $$$, while Partridge landed a high 3 star at UM. Everyone knows he has a special eye for talent. That's how you build the infrastructure that PRODUCES championship level talent.

Where does UM rank in run defense?

I saw that Clemson ran for 30 something yards. That's pretty impressive considering the DT talent we came into the season with.

Mario knows Joe's strengths and weaknesses. Good coach and obviously Mario's friend. IMHO The difference between Mario and Golden is that Mario will make the coaching change if it makes the entire program better.
 
If Joe develops guys then I’m fine with him staying. It does t look like that’s been the case historically with his lack of draftees.

I still think you guys are putting way too much blame on Joe and not enough on the real reason we aren’t getting these guys. $$$.

Blount reclassified for what reason? To look cool? To play against tougher competition? I think it was to cash a big check as soon as possible. Duh

Wins and losses don’t mean **** in the eyes of a high schooler. They all think they’ll be the difference makers.

Honestly our NIL and Ruiz have been getting a pass on this board for a long time, and it’s clear to me that they are the problem.

I'll make this simple.

I think the case for retaining him...is that we have **** good defensive line play right now, particularly in the context that we've been forced to Frankenstein a D-line together out of a bunch of Portal additions.

I know that some posters don't like to hear complex answers. I know that some posters are "bottom line" types.

But Blount just got an NIL offer from F$U that doubled ours. Doesn't mean we shouldn't offer more. Doesn't mean we can't fight back.

But to act as if Joe has bad body odor or some other personality defect that is costing us recruits...is just silly.

5-star high school DTs (and 4-star ones too) are unicorns right now. For at least another year, Alonzo is going to need to scout the **** out of JuCo and the Portal.

I wish I had a rock-solid solution, but I don't think "Joe's Gotta Go" is anywhere close to being a fix.

I am a "bottom line" type, but also very much a big picture type. One argument that works on me is that the proposed solution can be worse than the original problem.

If there's a change to be made, I want to know that there actually is a fix- not just a firing. If, as someone stated earlier, there's some beef between Mario and Partridge (an example of an actual fix), then there may not be a better option at DL coach at the moment.

Someone proposed Stroud moving back on-field. I don't see that happening. They appear to be forgetting that legit, non-Urbanite, health concerns were the root of his move off-field in the first place.

Long story short, "there isn't a better solution right now," is a reason I would accept for retainer.

As to JUCO/Portal and scouting generally, I think we've scouted fine. We need to land some of the targets we scout.

If you know and follow Dline recruiting especially DT recruiting, then you'll understand that this is the most highly sought after position in recruiting and also where the money is dropped to not only the players but also the multitude of handlers who helped the family.
Oh the more often than not the amount of money being dropped is more than UM is willing to spend. Case in point the Bear Alexander move from UGA to USC.
This LA apartment is not cheap


Then, also throw in the local draw to stay home in the various locales for most players, and along with lack of recent inability to put players in the NFL, missing on our DT targets is not a surprise. Coach Joe has a long history of developing talent slowly and more so blue collar hungry development players he identifies with rather than super star pre- madonnas.

Coach Joe has the DT's on our roster playing at an insane level, and winning + on field production is what will get these kids An opportunity in the league which is what will long term build DT recruiting. Slow and steady building the trenches takes time.

That isn’t a desirable area of LA. Nobody wants to live near or in downtown. Second, DT isn’t the most sought after postion, that is QB, but it is highly sought after with a shallow talent pool. That said, it in no way excuses our misses at the position this year. It has been a failure when considering the standard we expect in recruiting from a quality and quantity standpoint.

Especially since about 99.9% of the people on here have no idea who is responsible for recruiting anyone nor how it all shakes down, particularly in the new NIL world.

both are. But no one is giving credit for one while complaining full time on the other. And when you do get DTs, like Jones or the Bama transfer, he ain't getting any credit either. NOt sure who should get the credit or not. Clearly our DT isn't where it needs to be but I don't think Mario would keep him around if he didn't think there was a value there.

A poly pipeline isn’t near as important lol, its a cool bonus but nobody goes into recruiting just solely targeting them. Our top poly guys are the top tackle in his class and one of the top portal linebackers.

But i do give credit for landing jones.. i think joe probably moves on after this year, jt got a promotion..Its no hard feelings we all just want better

I'll give credit for Jones when his signature is on a Miami LOI.
