James Coley

I was never really on the Coley bandwagon, but I have to acknowledge that I have ZERO expectations for this offense minus Duke and Dorsett and without great OL play. It's not going to happen. We know Morris' limitations--he isn't and has never been good throwing into coverage. That's always been his weakness. If we can run the ball and tilt things in his favor, he can get it down the field against lower numbers of defenders. You take away our only legit back, our truest deep threat (which Morris relies on), and give us poor OL play such that we can't run the ball, and I can't find a play set or strategy to defeat that. The only chance that we had in this game offensively was to dominate with our front.

I think it's risky when the best attribute of your COORDINATOR is recruiting. That's great for a RB coach that you can hide, but not so much a coordinator. I was always worried about Coley in that regard. But all in all, I think he did fine this year on the whole especially when you consider Morris' erratic performances and some injuries that we really couldn't afford.

Morris mentally isnt that great of a QB, physically he can play with the best of them, fisch's play calling last year covered his mental mistakes

Ill give coley a pass this year if its the same next year i will question the play calling

Yet somehow last year Fisch had him looking like a QB who would be drafted in the first 2 rounds. I agree that Morris was flat out awful this year but Coley is a fraud.
 
I agree with the part of having Coley as a RB coach or something to capitalize on the recruiting he brings. That was all he was at FSU, a paper coach so he could recruit for them. But, he is in way over his head as an OC. Maybe we will do the same, hide him as a position coach and get a real OC. But, I want him in some capacity here, he brings so much to the recruiting aspect of the team.
 
This entire staff needs to be replaced. We have a staff full of recruiters not developers of talent.
 
He's had some injuries to deal with, but he has plenty of room for improvement. Hope he does.

My only hope for next season is that most of the issues with the offense were on Morris.

I'm slightly hopeful that's the case. Dude rarely made his progressions.

When I see receivers running free - on TV - routinely and not getting the ball, that's telling.
 
Well hopefully Al makes him go to play calling school this summer. Maybe I can call my man Sean Payton and we can get him into Sean Payton's camp. So he can learn down and distance, versus pulse of the game.

I think Coley can get better Donofrio can not.. Al will be forced to fire Donofrio after the poor fan support following the game.

What's worst was how the D coordinator for UL made coley look like an unranked amateur. Coley loves to run the offense from the sidelines doing all of the audibling himself. Tonight UL's DC had his defense stay in the standing position walking around so Coley could not audible in anything. It was varsity versus JV among the coordinators tonight.

I agree so much! After the safety, had we scored and kept a consistent offense, the defense would have hung in there a few drives like it did, and yes eventually Teddy would have started his offense up but we would have had a good lead. The offense completely let the defense down. And after the big lead by UL, they lost all their drive!
 
Why does Coley have the offensive get set and then have Morris step out and look to the sideline on every play? It takes away from the momentum of the game and gives the defensive time to adjust and rest. I personally think it hurt Morris, there was no flow, or rhythm
 
This I have been saying all season... thats why both coordinators have to and should go... **** sticking to the game plan all the time... if you see something you should exploit it, even if it means changing the game plan... hate to say it but offense has been killing us this year for lack of not executing and scoring... I blame AG for not yanking Morris... I blame Coley for not making adjustments.... I blame Morris for not executing... we do not run RB screens, we dont throw in the middle of the field, we dont throw to the TE's... I think we need a change of pace at QB next year, maybe an athletic QB... As for last nights game Ryan Williams should have been put in after Morris's 1st failed drive in the 3rd Quarter... im sick of Morris he is so inconsistent... thats my rant... drops the mic.. walks out room...

At least Coley is 1) a good recruiter. 2) At early stage of his career and might get better. Didn't show much this year, but I want another recruiting class(2015) out of this staff.

Then it might be time to kiss them all goodbye; except Hurlie--I think he is going to be monster recruiter but not seeing much as RB coach. Anyone can coach Duke. He needs to be moved to another position. At this point I am ready to give up on Barrow and Art too(I love them both but LBs have been disappointment for years now and the oline keeps getting raped.

If this class foals apart, then I'm okay with trashing the lot this year. Just don't fire Al; I don't want to pay his buy out. Fire Mark and Al will quit. Maybe he goes somewhere else and we get buy out money.

That he's never played well in the biggest of games. That he was never getting drafted highly until he did.

That the offense sucked when it mattered most under Fisch, too.

I completely understand and I agree, but you latched on to a specific argument while I was thinking/talking about it in general terms. Morris DID play better with Fisch than he has with Coley. Morris HAS played like **** this year. And Coley IS a fraud.
 
I can't believe Golden hired this clown, Kehoe, Franklin, D'noforio, Coley....seriously why not just hire Cristobal as OC, Coley is absolute garbage he's the freakin' King of 3 and outs
