Here’s a ?

Outside of Dorsey, when’s the last time we had a recruited QB that actually was good that wasn’t a transfer?
Brad the Lad wasn't bad. But the real answer is Scott Covington.

I love Stephen Morris, good dude, but he wasn't recruited to be a starter. The fact that he ended up as such is more an indictment of our inability to pull a QB than anything about his talent level.

I liked Kenny Kelly more than Covington.

I didn’t. As bad as it sounds, I actually celebrated when he was injured at VT. The fans looked at me like I had lost my mind but that was the beginning of the Dorsey era. I was sick of Kenny running around for 5 minutes and then launching what would look like a punt for Moss to adjust to and save the day.

Brad Kaaya had his moments.
Yeah, Kayaa was far and away the most polished QB recruit. Great fundamentals and throwing mechanics. Would love to have a guy like that today to come into this offense as an 18 year old.

Since we're on old QB's, TVDs stat line through two games against Western Mich and S Dakota: 38/63 406 1TD 0INT. He faces Alabama on Saturday...

Poor Kayaa had no wheels . If he could have at least run a 5.4-- 40 , he may have stuck in the League for a season or 2

Covington held onto the ball and took a sack. That was his move.
I prefer making big plays to losing yards.
Being worse than Dorsey does not make you worse than Covington.

All these players were simply finding to find the best in what we had because that's all we could get. Hopefully those days are behind us.

Bro Covington was just coming into his own in his final season along with the rest of the team. If he would have had one more season of eligibility I think we could have won a ship with him.

5 years wasn't enough time? Scott COVIDton?
You are completely ignoring what I said in my last comment. Do you remember what shape the program was in for the majority of those years? No QB could have been successful for the majority of those years.

Covington was a better QB than Ryan Clement by a mile. The coaches had some weird hangup about playing him. They also rotated Dyral McMillan and Trent Jones at RB instead of just rolling with Edge as RB1 in 1996.

Covington managed to stick around on 5 years of NFL rosters for a reason: he had a **** of an arm.

Failure to start him before 1998 is on the coaches.

I commend you for having a reason. But I'll just have to agree to disagree. Kenny Kelly should have never started a single game, and Covington should have been starting over Clement, easily.

Honestly? I dont know. Walsh? Erickson?

They were pre Dorsey. I was thinking about all our QBs who’s had team success here, & they’ve all been transfers from Berlin, to King, & so far Ward.

Rosier had a successful 2017 season, but that slipper came off immediately in 2018. Kaaya was good for us, but not a lot of wins for him, although it could be argued if he stayed in 2017, we maybe talking about him in a way different light. He’s by far the most polished QB we’ve had; that OL sucked though.

The image of Santana Moss having to come back 15 yards to catch a Kenny Kelly duck after beating a corner by a mile is forever burned into my head.
