Jai Lucas set to become next men’s basketball coach

That doesn’t mean anything.

Lucas at Duke, Kentucky and Texas is the equivalent of James Coley at UGA. He had all the bags and logo at UGA and killed it. He had none of that at Miami and his results here were underwhelming bc of it.
they will find out if he can do it with a miami logo

this feels like a disaster hire to me. all of Calipari’s assistants have flopped and recruiting for Duke has to be one of the easiest jobs in college basketball.

and in the off chance that you have hit on a superstar coach here, he’s leaving for a bigger job in 3 years. so i’m not sure what the upside even is here really.

L showed that you don’t need to have some major recruiting reputation to get 4 and 5 stars to come here. put good teams on the floor, put some guys into the draft, and use your connections as a coach and guys will want to play in Miami — and of course now we have the NIL aspect. the entire direction of this hire feels misplaced to me

happy to proven wrong of course. we will see
Too judgemental...too soon. The ink ain't even dry.

Welp...... if we're gonna go the Asst. Coach route, then this would be considered a home run hire. If we were looking at "the best we could find", then this hire is a stand up double, IMO. I personally thought that we needed a man with head coaching experience. This conference chews up and spits out inexperienced coaches, left and right. I'll take a wait and see approach. but as I always say, "Miami is not a school for first time Head Coaches". I sure hope this works out.

Sorry, but Phil Jackson wasn't taking calls.

Stay tuned cookies.

That was in the past when ACC still had some of their coaches. They replaced legends with assistants.

What happened this year in ACC challenge? SEC just woodshedded the ACC.

If ACC teams keep hiring assistants this will be the norm moving forward. Roy left Hubert a good squad for that one year run. Ask Tarheel fans how about now? Ive heard them on local radio saying he should be gone after that drubbing they took at Clemson.

One league's administration is showing their fanbase they are serious about basketball with the hires they have made.
One season of results isn’t going to be enough to fully determine the takeover you definitively stated has happened. I’ll put a pin on this and will be back when we fin March Madness tho. . .

As far as the SEC absent ACC , if what you stated were the reality, we would have seen greater results from them in the tournament in the past ten years. Speaking of Clemson, they actually made an elite eight recently compared to all these SEC programs you’re gassing up.

Duke fans: No, this is horrible for us

Miami fans: No, this is horrible for us

🤣😂🤣 Man, there’s a lot of coaches in between Jai Lucas and Phil Jackson, that we could have called and offered. Jai may turn out to be exactly what we need. It’s just that I’ve seen what this conference does to 1st time head coaches. We decided to go with Jai, so I’m riding with Jai. Time will tell.

I don't know a thing about Lucas. Recruiting at the like of Duke, Kentucky, etc is not necessarily a great selling point since we are neither.

Seems like a high risk, high reward type hire and everything comes down to money today more than ever. We'll see how much financial support the school and collective (NIL) provide.

As with any new hire, I hope he is successful at Miami.

I see both sides of argument on the hire. But one thing not being talked about is roster retention of the young guys with this hire. Does this give us a better shot of keeping some of the talented freshman. I think it does with a name like Lucas
There’s not a single player on this roster worth losing sleep over if they decide to leave.

You know I agree. I just think the freshman class has some pieces worth fighting for to help the rebuild.
If you watch Duke, they recruit high level talent that whoop your a$$ with minimal pomp and circumstance. That is not Bethea and I highly doubt he sticks around. They didn't even offer him.

There is some potential with Swartz and I'd imagine we fight to keep Able in the fold. Decent chance Shelton Henderson winds up in the class. I'd keep an eye on Caleb Foster as well although I've heard Stanford may be the destination.
