Well lets make sure we are being fair of this assessment...

...Who was Emory competing against exactly? Poff left, as we all though he would. Apparently Judd has not shown the staff that he was ready, and far enough behind Emory.

...Same as before, what we all feel like we have a talented freshman coming in, but that is yet to be seen just how talented. So competing for QB1 in 2025 was actually a pretty fair assessment. What he was actually going to be capable of was a mystery as well.. and that's where the Pop Tarts Bowl came into play.

I wouldn't say the offensive staff made the wrong assessment, considering what we had to work with. But after the sample size of Emory, it wasnt hard to see that we needed help, from their viewpoint or ours.

Losing Emory and Judd would be meaningless. We could easily grab another talentless QB3 in the spring to run scout team.

The difference is all 3 QBs will get reps with the 1's and 2's in practices and scrimmages. What other ways would there be to evaluate them? Just because Emory didn't perform well in bowl game doesn't mean he didn't win QB2 over Poff. However, based on the bowl game, I was shocked how little Emory had improved. Even more shocking was the limited playbook he had until they had to take the training wheels off to try to win the game. By that time, it was too late. It's really shocking that Dawson didn't have him ready.

As I stated, the pecking order of spring could wreck the QB room. There could be 2 leaving after the Spring Semester leaving only 2 scholarship QBs.

Did Poff leave (after the season) because Emory was a better QB, or did Poff leave because he was behind Emory on the depth chart? There were some insiders saying Poff was better than Emory even after watching them both in practice. Maybe they were right all along. Either way, watching Emory in December casts some doubt. As for Judd, I don't think he's been viewed as much more than a developmental project, and I expect Nickel will pass him up in short order, too.

As for 2025, you are limiting the comparison to QBs on the roster. In the world of NIL and the transfer portal, that's a strawman argument. And it ignores the greater point: this staff was talking up Emory right up until he absolutely **** the bed at the PopTart Bowl. I.,e., the staff clearly thought highly of Emory (based on what they saw in practices and during the off season) right up until they saw him play in the game. I vaguely recall D$ saying he liked Mendoza as a QB to bring in during the off-season, but strongly implying the coaches had Emory and Mendoza at a very similar tier of QB... at least right up until the bowl game.

Their is no room. We have a starter and a true freshmen with 2 walkons.

LOL. I'm not anoting any kid to QB1 based on high school. They have to prove it on Greetree. I know Coleman believes he can win QB1 as a freshman. The competition should be good. The problem is what other QBs are going to stick around? If Luke is QB2 in 2025, Judd and Emory are likely gone. I don't see Nickel and Coleman in the same QB room for more than 1 season. Coleman could redshirt, but why would he stay for 2027 to be a backup to Nickel? Coleman is not going to sit 2-3 years waiting to get on the field. The kid is too talented. I think Coleman has the best arm talent. He throws very similar to Cam Ward. A quick effortless ball with a lot of zip behind it. Competition will elevate the position. We'll have a great QB whoever wins out.

Well Nickel will have a whole Spring and season under Dawson to learn the offense. He will be light years ahead of Coleman so yeah I'm anointing him. Plus after watching the American Herritage game where Toney (Yes our WR commit) looked better than Coleman I think it's safe to say he will need time.

Light years? Nah. I don't have a favorite, but I think Coleman has some special gifts the way he throws the ball.

I really wish people would look at film over a sustained period of time and not give blanket takes on 1 game.

Both are outstanding at the high school level. It will be interesting to watch the growth and competition between the the two. The winner will be Miami.

I've watched a ton of games on both and yeah Nickel is way ahead. But I'm not a coach so my opinion doesn't mean squat.
