Maybe. Maybe not.

I'm open to dissenting opinions on the topic.

We'll see how things play out in the long run.
Phil Knight isn’t offering the #1 croot in the nation 7 figures because he believes it will be a financial windfall for himself. Neither are the Mas Bros.

And those of us that are part of Canes Connection aren’t expecting to get a dime of that money back.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

I think all things being equal, the nod in THIS recruitment has to be Miami (Oline coach, women and more than respectable NIL) - I think Oregon has to throw F-you money at him to change his mind.

That said, gotta think that whatever price Miami ends up at will be very close to the rate for Pepe. Hopefully we pay for the Pepe too.

It’s called negotiation, he’s the #1 player in America and he will be paid like it. Miami will be in the ballpark, always have been.

You think Oregon just low balled him for 6 months and all the sudden just decided to increase offer 5X? No he’s being paid to visit (which we’ll see if he even makes trip) that’s how this works.

Once he said he wasn’t going to take visits Oregon probably offered him X amount to lock in trip. “Just come see if you like it”…. The actual dollar amount on the table for Oregon has always been there.
I think Oregon likely made a large increase on their offer. Significant enough to get him not to commit to us and visit them. I think we will need to match it or go higher. I think he will go to the highest bidder just like Smith did last year. I suppose time will tell

Look at the A game attendance in Tuscaloosa yesterday vs years past.

While yesterday wasn’t a traditional spring game I’d imagine they would draw a bigger crowd than what they did. Factor the portal and having to do away with stuff like spring games into it and CFB is on the verge of a collapse.

Holy ****. That is a huge drop off. Wonder if they had some type of restriction on amount of fans. That's an insane disparity...

I'm not ready to say it will collapse, but things just don't seem like they are headed in the right direction, but what the **** do I know. LOL.

I appreciate the contributions from boosters, etc.. Much respect.

When I referenced an ROI, I wasn't referring to money, but "value" of the product. Teams / collectives / etc. pay for enough Nico's and I'd imagine the well drying up. Maybe I'm wrong, and it's just the cost of doing business.

If it’s all about money why would you increase your offer now instead of sniping in before signing day. Keep bidding higher now is a recipe to keep bidding even higher through NSD. There should be two stages to an offer one “semi-final” offer during spring/summer before their senior season starts, and then the final offer before nsd

Pepe is a higher priority for me than this guy but get both like we did pancake and Francis.

And Alabama attendance is just a look back to reality where their fans know the Saban era is over.

Exactly.....this is likely not a Lanning vs Mario battle at the end...it's Phil Knight making it all possible....sounds like the kid wants to be at Miami but NIL has changed the game....if that's the case with this kid....Let's hope Miami is prepared to spend a big bag somewhere in the ball park to have a chance....

TrumpyCane thinks Phil Knight currently is more worried that Nike shares are down 40% YTD than an OL recruit

Saban always had loaded DB rooms and the pitch was simple - come play for the best DB's coach on the planet.

It's asinine to compare Cristobal's tenure at Miami at Saban's run at 'Bama, but the pitch is similar. Cantwell, in particular, has an abundance of tools, but needs to be developed. Miami really is in his best long-term interest.
And he Sewell as arguably the tackle in football and Francis as examples of what he’s done five star talent
