Interview with N'Kosi Perry

I truly think some of you guys are out of your minds. We cannot waste a championship defense on Perry --a true freshman --that did not play in a sophisticated offense in HS. There is a zero % chance that guy comes in to win the job after missing the spring---ZERO!!

He needs to redshirt, learn the system, enhance his footwork, and learn to read defenses at this level. We must play the best guy, and the besst guy will be either Rosier, Sherrifs or perhaps even Allison, in order to try to win the ACC and perhaps have a shot at the playoffs.

If we start Perry we will have wasted this championship caliber defense. Cannot happen! That's the kind of **** Al Golden would do.

We must try to win NOW!

Francois, Famous Jameis, and Jackson all have something in common....RS Freshmen. Kaaya was a true freshman and did well under the circumstances, but to get us to that new level, I agree w u, that boy needs to shirt. I think we become so enamoured w shiny new toes that we forget to read the warning labels.

They dumbed down the offense for Kaaya and he was our best option by a mile. Like Franchise keeps saying, Richt asks a helluva a lot out of QB's. it's very hard for a summer enrollee QB to start. It happens, but rare

I don't think it's unrealistic to see Perry winning the job. Kaaya did pretty well as true FR summer enrollee. That kid at Texas did pretty well as well. It's not such a hard learning curve anymore if they pick up the speed of the game because high schools are running much of the same offenses as colleges are, with alot of shotgun and read plays from these formations. I mean even look at the job the staff did with the 3 LBs. My thinking is Perry seems to have a natural feel for the game, something you have or you don't. He already has the playbook. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins the job, I expect him to.

My guess is that most of the fans going nuts over Perry and proclaiming he'll start for us upon stepping foot on campus are the same fans that thought he was trash when he originally decommitted from us last year.

"Wasting a championship defense on Perry."

I wonder were Bama fans saying the same thing about starting Jalen Hurts this year. He was a true freshman this past season. Granted, I believe he was an EE, but still a true freshman.

I see this playing out very similar to 3 yrs ago when Kaaya got here. If one of the guys already on campus separate themselves and takes charge it's their job. If no one really shows out, Perry will have a legit shot to come in and show what he's got. If he can be on par with or very close he could win the job.

He could still win the job, but because he's a not-early-enrolling freshmans, I personally believe the odds are low.

This is NOTHING like Bard's freshmans year. The projected starter doesn't have a shredded knee.
Yeah but Perry can throw it 67 yards and Rick compared him to Charlie Ward who started from day one as a true freshmans at FSU.

Yes, Charlie Ward started day one as a true freshman--as the punter. Peter Tom Willis started the entire year in 1989. Ward redshirted in 1990. Weldon platooned with Brad Johnson in 1990 and was the full-time starter in 1991. Ward didn't start until 1992.

For Perry to start in my opinion, he needs to be clearly better than Rosier and Shirreffs by the second week in fall camp and by an extremely wide margin. Or the latter two need to be mediocre at best. We'll see.

Perry will be the starter by the end of the season... **** I'm willing to bet he'll be the starter after the 1st game. chit FSU beat us last year with a true freshman qb, so why can't we do the same thing

FIFY

There is a HUGE difference between second and first year qbs

I think Perry CAN be a very good QB here, but only AFTER a redshirt season to learn and with a full year in the weight room to get stronger. That guy will not be ready to start this year, given he missed the Spring and will be coming in during the first summer session. We run a sophisticated Pro-Style offense that requires precise footwork, and an ability to actually read defenses, not a read-option one read offense.

This defense has a chance to be great --possibly the best defense we will have fielded since 2003-2004 (Vilma, Taylor, Wilform, Rolle), and we cannot--I repeat--CANNOT waste this defense on Perry. This defense has a chance to carry us all the way, and all we need is a QB that will limit mistakes and make smart reads---basically, a game manager. Sherrifs or Rosier "might" be able to give us that. They "might" be able to give us that, but I KNOW a true freshman Perry can't. A guy that inexperienced and coming directly out of HS (and having played in an unsophisticated offense) will be good for 2-3 losses all by his **** self.

No--we need to Redshirt Perry, dance with Sherrifs or Rosier (possibly Allison) and ride a championship defense as far as they'll take us. We've all suffered enough and we've come too far as a program. It's time to try to win big, and a game manager for this season will be just what the Dr. ordered. Then we unleash Perry, Weldon or Sherrifs with a wide open and powerful offense in 2018

Okay, from this point forward I'm 100% on board with the rest of you guys...

Rosier/Shirreffs give us the best chance to win now & possibly win the Coastal.

9/16 @ FSU & 10/28 @ UNC, early in the season we'll find out for real.

Ward redshirted his second year in Tally(1990). I'm sure of it. Also Ward was a true freshman in 89 and did not get any meaningful playing time until he won the job in 92 his 4th year in the program.

We did not want Perry to leave for another school and hurt us like VT. Every coach tells every HS Senior they will have every chance to start and they are the next Red Grange.

Not one player on the current team is worried about any freshman coming in. Only when the pads come on and the plays are live does anyone get respect in August. If Perry can do it good for us. If he can not get him a redshirt and put in the work.

Ward did not start as a true freshman. He barely played true freshman year and then redshirted as a sophomore.

There was no reason for Ward to play. The guys in front of him were a heisman runner up and a superbowl winning quarterback.

No, Casey Weldon was the full time starter in 91.

It might get wasted with sheriifs or rosier too. Doesnt matter how old the qb is the best guy should start.

This^

You start the best player. Period. It's unlikely that Perry will be a full go from the opening game but that doesn't mean he won't be given a shot to earn the starting spot throughout the season. Especially if Shirreffs/Rosier don't impress. The whole "you're wasting a season if Perry starts" only makes sense if Rosier/Shirreffs/Allison are actually good. There's really no evidence that supports that right now. One of them might be good but that's just projecting an opinion. Especially considering the only one with any game experience (Rosier) isn't wowing the coaches. Going with a true freshman, maybe a few games into the season, might end up being the best option. The situation is fluid and right now nobody should be saying ______ should be the starting QB come fall.

It's better for us that its the QB Richt picked, he has trained the offense to Perry's strengths.

Rick picked a lot of ****** QBs at UGA. He's no miracle QB selector. Good thing Perry is going to hit the ground running and have no learning curve because Rick picked him.
If that's the case, then none of his selections should be trusted, Rosier, Perry, Shirreffs & Sitkow included.

Rick signed Rosier and Shirreffs? When it comes to the QB spot, I need to see them do it while the band is playing.

HS accolades are nice, and Perry is a great talent. But so was Kenny Kelly, and he struggled badly. And he didn't get forced into starting as a true freshmans. A far less talented Dorsey eventually stole his lunch money and made him a minor league baseball player.

This is a whole other level of football when it comes to playing QB. There is so much thinking and information processing that goes into playing QB for Rick that it's almost foolish to think that Perry will come in and win the job in a month.
A lot of dudes on here set Allison up too. Now, he's a bum.

thank you, franchise.

your post should be taped to the forehead of every slurper who thinks: 4.4 40 + strong arm + HS hype = immediate QB stardom

greatness at QB starts between the ears.

what do Kosar, Walsh, Dorsey, Erickson, and Torretta all have in common? Besides great talent around them? they were whip smart at the position.

oh, and another thing they all have in common: championship rings ...
