In Swasey We Trust

We weren't pushed by ANYBODY last year. So tired of hearing/seeing people say that dumb ****.

Watch WTF is going on up front and stop making general statements every time a running play doesn't succeed.

Majority of the time you'll see that we were either beat with speed (DL slanting) or our TE got his *** kicked. Our O-line doesn't move. They're very stout. When they can get a body-on-a-body they move people.

We might miss blocks, we might whiff or we might get beat across our face but we don't get pushed back.

Last night I actually went back and watched the first 3 quarters of last years F$U game(yes I am a borderline *********), and I was surprised at the success this team had at running straight at them. They were successful moving guys and giving Duke cut back lanes to get up field. The line seemed to struggle more on the outside slow developing runs where F$U's speed was able to get up field.

Oh, and I saw Snickers run out of bounce on 3rd down, a yard short of the chains, forcing a 4th down that Duke did pick up though.
It's that stupid zone stretch that Coley fell in love with at times last year.

You know what's funny? I understand the thought of a playcaller (like Coley) saying, "OK--we've run it up the middle 3-4 times in a row, and they're probably looking for it. We need an outside run." OK...fine. I get that. But you know what? A Toss works just fine. You can still run downhill from a Toss, and show the D a different look. You can run a Counter, which catches those guys who are cheating for the run between the tackles (and would take massive advantage of Duke's acceleration advantage against the front 7). Those two things tend to bounce outside, and would be change-ups from the normal Isos/Powers that we run really freaking well. I'm not even 100% opposed to running that Zone Stretch play, if we could execute it.

Where I have a problem, is that we cannot execute that Zone Stretch play well AT ALL. It's extremely rare that it goes for a gain of more than 2-3 yards for us. Why? Because we get beat to the edge by the defense every single time, and we don't get engaged with oncoming defenders. Our OL doesn't move all that well outside of the hashes...so don't freaking run there!

Run those other things like the Counters/Tosses that give you a semblance of an outside running game, that also are easier for OL's like ours to block up effectively. Don't run something that doesn't work for us like that Zone Stretch play, and throw away downs as a result.

Some will say that the Zone Stretch might set up things like the HB Pass or Playaction rollouts back to the weak side...and I get that. But you can accomplish the same things with other plays that will work when we actually run them, as opposed to the Zone Stretch which doesn't work well for us and our personnel...and guess what? The plays you want to set up will still work, it's just going to be out of a different playaction fake look.

Counters aren't complicated enough smh

I thought they were laser timed? Somebody said that somewhere

P.Dorsette isn't running 4.1's on a laser. That is a hand-watch-job.

I love Duke, but he ain't in the 4.3's.

Duke has the best 20-yard speed I've seen in the last 10-years, but his top end speed is not elite to put it nicely. It shows on the field.
Dorsett is a 4.3-4 guy Duke is a 4.5-6 guy. Those times are off.

The times are off because you were personally there to witness it, or because you are just a negative piece of Shiit?

We have Duke personally saying "it's good to be back in the 4.3 club" and we have doubters like you basically saying he's a liar.

I'll go with Duke.

What else is Duke gonna say?

"Coach Swasey timed me in a 4.3 today but it was handheld."

No. He's gonna say he ran a 4.3.

In three years I've noticed that publicly, Duke doesn't say much of anything.

I've never seen a star, particularly in the internet generation, who is less self promoting than Duke.

If Ray Ray Armstrong said it, you take it with a million grains of salt.

If Duke says something you take him at his word.

I am taking his word...

But he's leaving out the part that it was HAND TIMED, which is why people here don't believe that he's a true 4.3 guy.

I don't think anybody is doubting that he ran a 4.3.

Duke seems to me to be able to reach top speed very quickly, but his top speed isnt all that great.

Play complexity has nothing to do with whether or not you can use it to set something else up. Nothing.

You know what does? Being able to run a play (even simple ones) well enough that a defense has to react to it more quickly than others or get burned. That, in a nutshell, is why any good playaction works. Iso plays are boring and simple, but if you're running it for 5-8 yards every time you run the Iso...you can eventually run playaction off of it, anyway you want to.

Duke's not lying; the watch is lying.

"The type of players he's brought in has made my job awesome"

one of the things I have harped on for years during the Swasey debates, especially while Randy was recruiting guys who never saw a weight room in their lives. It's a mentality. A mentality we've been embarrassingly behind on for a long time. Things are changing, but still waiting for the results. Think we see some changes this year.

Very true. Big part of that video. He wasn't kidding when he said many of those kids are already Bentleys. That said, dude gets the most out of those Bentleys.

I hear ya.

I been saying the same thing for years myself.

We were signing 185lb Linebackers and then complaining that our kids weren't big enough.

You can't see Quanito's thighs. Lots of fast twitch guys have skinny calves. No way to change those calf genetics.
