In Swasey We Trust

Unfortunately I don't trust that stop watch of his.
I thought they were laser timed? Somebody said that somewhere

P.Dorsette isn't running 4.1's on a laser. That is a hand-watch-job.

I love Duke, but he ain't in the 4.3's.

Duke has the best 20-yard speed I've seen in the last 10-years, but his top end speed is not elite to put it nicely. It shows on the field.
Dorsett is a 4.3-4 guy Duke is a 4.5-6 guy. Those times are off.

The times are off because you were personally there to witness it, or because you are just a negative piece of Shiit?

We have Duke personally saying "it's good to be back in the 4.3 club" and we have doubters like you basically saying he's a liar.

I'll go with Duke.
I'm not being negative but **** nobody runs a 4.16. I mean nobody be real bruh. I seen duke film it's possible who could have gotten faster but I'm not buying 4.3 it's just my opinion. When deanthony Thomas runs a 4.5 and nobody could catch him In college It doesn't seem real.

He has gotten ripped by fans over the years but he deserves credit for the results being show by guys #Revolution

Duke was laser timed 4.45 last year. It's certainly possible with the right training he could get into the 4.3s

sure as **** doesn't mean it will translate onto the field though. Now that the 40 has become such a headline money maker, it's become a bit skewed for sure. Still important but lots of grains of salt

Lol. Rubber band Swasey is still a hack SC coach.. Our lines have been getting demished since Moffit left.

What? Moffitt left in 2000. Its quite possible our lines being "demolished" might have something to do with a lack of talent. How many guys have been top picks? I don't see alot of NFL people talking about Miami lines being talented but just lack strength and conditioning.

I swear some of yall on here are related to Moffit or something. Okay...we get it! Moffitt was the best! But he's gone now and has been for YEARS, GET OVER IT! Has our Oline not performed up to standards? Yes. But im not willing to say thats ALL on Swasey. We have seen some major strength and speed improvements in alot of our players.

****, Moffitt wasnt perfect. Those same Olinemen that got their blueprint from Moffitt and were trained under him got bytched slapped up and down the field by Ohio States Dline too in 02'. We remember what we want to remember because those were the glory days.

Swasey isnt going anywhere. Thats for **** sure. No use in even talking about it anymore. Bury this topic along with the "We should be running an aggressive 4-3 defense like FSU!" crap that keeps getting brought up. We are stuck with what we have. If it doesnt work, their a$$ is grass anyways.

One thing is getting ***** slapped by the eventual national champion, another is to be ***** slapped by Wake Forest. No one is "remembering what we want to remember"

I'm speechless. Watch the Wake Forest game, where we had like a 85lb average advantage over their Dline, and they pushed us all over the field. That was a TYPICAL performance under the Swasey years.

They didn't push us anywhere. Wake Forrest used "movement", i.e. slanting.

What else is Duke gonna say?

"Coach Swasey timed me in a 4.3 today but it was handheld."

No. He's gonna say he ran a 4.3.

We weren't pushed by ANYBODY last year. So tired of hearing/seeing people say that dumb ****.

Watch WTF is going on up front and stop making general statements every time a running play doesn't succeed.

Majority of the time you'll see that we were either beat with speed (DL slanting) or our TE got his *** kicked. Our O-line doesn't move. They're very stout. When they can get a body-on-a-body they move people.

We might miss blocks, we might whiff or we might get beat across our face but we don't get pushed back.

Last night I actually went back and watched the first 3 quarters of last years F$U game(yes I am a borderline *********), and I was surprised at the success this team had at running straight at them. They were successful moving guys and giving Duke cut back lanes to get up field. The line seemed to struggle more on the outside slow developing runs where F$U's speed was able to get up field.

Oh, and I saw Snickers run out of bounce on 3rd down, a yard short of the chains, forcing a 4th down that Duke did pick up though.

Swasey and this team aren't without their faults but getting beat isn't always a sign of being weak. Technique, the way in which they were beat, play design all have to be considered

People always act like we're loaded with talent on the O-line.

Who have we had the last few years? Who are the studs?

Anybody who thinks weight numbers are the end-all/be-all to playing football (or O-line) has never played football at a high level. Some of the sorriest players I ever played with were weight room warriors. There's a lot more to pushing people around.

We certainly have had offensive line talent. More then some other schools could say.

Go back and watch some film. We get smoked on 4&1 dozens of times. We lack strength (functional strength). Put us up next to say.. LSU and UM will look like little boys physically. Moffit, Cochran, and Villoria are top SC coaches and it shows.

No it didn't show. If it does it's an optical illusion brought on by the old uniforms. Those thing were pajamas. They certainly weren't modern. I'm willing to bet the same guys you thought looked small last year won't look that way with the new design and cut of the uniforms.

Look everyone at this point knows Swasey was never qualified for the job, and certainly isn't in 2014. Our entire S and C program is amateur at best.

BUT:

It never ceased to amaze me how so many coaches can be so inept at designing their teams as a whole. If you want to be a 3-4 2-Gap defense (in college), it makes more sense to be a power run up the guy smash mouth run based offense (as the case with Bama).

If you want to be a speed defense based on half man and getting in gaps and spilling, it makes sense to run a speed based high flying offense of whatever flavor you choose (like Oregon)

The reason I believe this to be true is b/c in college football the rosters are limited and there are no real scout teams. B/C coaches, including SC coaches, have limited contact with players, and therefore streamlined goals that fit every player make more sense. This way, at Bama, they can sacrifice a bit of speed in their SandC goals if it means a bit more power, b/c size and power work for both sides of the ball. At Oregon, they sacrifice size and power for speed, quickness, and pace. Both sides of the ball exhibit those traits. And Oregon and Bama have been model programs for the last several years.

In addition, I believe bend-don't-break defenses, especially of the 2 gap cover 3 variety, benefit MASSIVELY from having slow, ball control offenses that eat up clock and keep games in general low scoring. On the flip side, a team with an explosive, quick strike offense, often pairs well with an aggressive 3 and out or big play type defense. Why? B/c the gamble is worth it b/c in the event that your high risk defense breaks, it's going to usually be a quick score, allowing your dominant offense to immediately get back in. And often, in college, those gamble pay off at a huge rate bc college QBs are generally dumb and can't handle man coverage or speed rush at all, let alone blitzes.

And now we come to Miami, a team with a 2-gap, power based, bend dont break defense, with a shotgun spread and zone run scheme. How are you supposed to effectively train 85 kids when your physical philosophy on both sides of the ball is COMPLETELY opposite?

Moffit Cochran and Villoris all teach Olympic style which does alot for football related moves they are top dogs for sure in CFB training they also get paid like it

It's that stupid zone stretch that Coley fell in love with at times last year.

You know what's funny? I understand the thought of a playcaller (like Coley) saying, "OK--we've run it up the middle 3-4 times in a row, and they're probably looking for it. We need an outside run." OK...fine. I get that. But you know what? A Toss works just fine. You can still run downhill from a Toss, and show the D a different look. You can run a Counter, which catches those guys who are cheating for the run between the tackles (and would take massive advantage of Duke's acceleration advantage against the front 7). Those two things tend to bounce outside, and would be change-ups from the normal Isos/Powers that we run really freaking well. I'm not even 100% opposed to running that Zone Stretch play, if we could execute it.

Where I have a problem, is that we cannot execute that Zone Stretch play well AT ALL. It's extremely rare that it goes for a gain of more than 2-3 yards for us. Why? Because we get beat to the edge by the defense every single time, and we don't get engaged with oncoming defenders. Our OL doesn't move all that well outside of the hashes...so don't freaking run there!

Run those other things like the Counters/Tosses that give you a semblance of an outside running game, that also are easier for OL's like ours to block up effectively. Don't run something that doesn't work for us like that Zone Stretch play, and throw away downs as a result.

Some will say that the Zone Stretch might set up things like the HB Pass or Playaction rollouts back to the weak side...and I get that. But you can accomplish the same things with other plays that will work when we actually run them, as opposed to the Zone Stretch which doesn't work well for us and our personnel...and guess what? The plays you want to set up will still work, it's just going to be out of a different playaction fake look.

People always act like we're loaded with talent on the O-line.

Who have we had the last few years? Who are the studs?
When he wanted to play, Seantrel was one. Brandon Linder was probably our most consistent OL, and Jon Feliciano is a really good versatile OL. McDermott gets nailed on a regular basis on here, but he's not a bad collegiate C. He's just not very good to elite level.

Not disagreeing with your point, however. We need definitely need more elite level guys. I think guys like KC McDermott, Darling, Flowers, and Isadora are all steps in the right direction, though.

Some of you will ***** about anything. Some everything.

The kid says he ran a 4.3. Do we think he ran a legit 4.3 on an olympic track, laser timed for the world record? - No. Should we be really pleased that our RB who was out for half of last season with a bad leg injury is even in the discussion to run near that number --- ummm -- Yes.

Swasey has trained a lot of people -- some had better work ethic than others --- some were better football players than others. Some of that shows on the field.

I'm sure he is not perfect, but many ProCanes come back to train with him over the years. Not sure why if he is as bad as the message board gym teachers think he is.
