In Fairness to Al Golden, Some Perspective....

I'm not going to read all that, but point blank is we should have been 11-1 this year. We were good enough to beat everyone on our schedule save FSU. Instead, we drop 4 out of our last 6 games and give up nearly 500 yards of offense in each of the last 9 games of the season. Al Golden hasn't improved anything outside of recruiting.

That's a pretty important piece, isn't it?

Regardless, the statement is untrue.

Hey, you know what, ya'll are right. Its time we really got a TOP notch coach. YOu all let me know how much you are going to put up to buy Golden out, and throw down to lure an Urban Meyer/Saban/Fisher type guy down here. You let me know when you get a few million committed, and Ill kick in. In the mean time, Ill be dealing in the real world, and what we actually have to work with here. Because people seem to forget, that in the end, it was between Golden and freakign Randy Edsall for this gig. Even Chimpano laughed in our faces. This job doesnt pay what you all like to dream it does.

Yeah guys let him do his thing.

His thing had him go 0-4 against good teams this year with an average score of 42-17.

Hes fielded 2 top 25 defenses in 12 seasons as an HC/DC, so let's just sit back and let him go to work.

He's 2-12 against teams with 8 wins or more, so why don't we all take a breather, ok?

He just suffered the second worst bowl loss in program history, but hey, he might be onto something.

He's posted back to back defenses in the 90s or worse, but if you ask me, he's got something cooking.
You're way off base. Georgia Tech just lost to Ole Miss, so he's only 1-12 against such teams.

That is HILARIOUS. For 15 F*CKING YEARS, since the Coker and Shannon ***** ups, ALL WE HAVE HEARD HERE is the mantras of "Its the Jimmies and Joes, NOT the X's and O's.". NOW, you havent done jack sh*t here if you improved recruiting. LOL. I mean its the over the top melodrama here that really just gets me man. We clearly have issues, and major problems. And there are major questions as to wether Golden can get it fixed. But some of these people just live in a fantasy world.

I agree with everything the OP said.

However, it does not change the fundamental problem of not changing the defensive scheme, even a little bit, when you are being gashed by mostly mediocre teams for 500 plus yards for 6 straight games.

No external factors forced Golden and D'Onofrio to do that.

If they continue the same defensive insanity into next year, then I don't care what hand he was dealt.

Lulz. How in the world can anyone and I mean anyone argue against these stats.

People are seriously overestimating the quality of the upperclassmen on this team. On both sides of the ball. For some of us, the 2013 Canes are exactly who we thought they were. Recruiting is almost the only thing that matters right now.....it shouldn't be minimized by saying "that's the only thing he is good at".

I think people are missing the OPs point. Several times he mentions
Al has made mistakes and needs to fix certain things. Even AG will admit that. Just like certain stats against AG you can not argue against, certain things he has had to deal with and the crap he had to sort through can not be argued. Bringing in another unproven coach and new staff at this point would do anyone any good. Because like OP said with our budget, we can only afford to hire an up and comer unproven coach. If Al doesnt make some tough decisions on his staff and improve M-F development and in game adjustments then he will be gone. Next year is it. If we are having the same conversation next year at this time then a change needs to be made. AG stuck with us when he could have left and if you think he wasnt approached you are nuts. He deserves 1 more year

CANE4LIFE, I think you have some points, but what's bothering me is the trending. Forget the problems for a moment.

Trending.

Trending by good coaches after even two years, shows improvement.

His blaming the players for a really sihtty defensive scheme that has no identity, no consistency (except for fcukups), just doesn't work any more. Any other coach would have fired D'Onofrio and changed the defense after last season.

Trending. It's not getting even a tiny bit better.

We used to take safeties and make them fast-assed linebackers, linebackers to defensive ends for really quick DE's, and DE's went to the line for some really quick striking linemen. Speed receivers went to Safety.

Now with the Penn State muscle-bound-can't-bend-over-to-tie-their-shoes, and molasses slow big guys, we're going backwards.

Trending.

We suk. We already suk'd, now we worser suk.

MAN 2 months ago you all wanted to crown Golden King. Now you're ready to shoot him on the spot and get him out of here. Make up your minds.

For a second I could understand golden was put in possibly the ****tiest situations possible but then I think that doesn't justify
- dropping d line into coverage
- doing god knows what with the o line over the past month
- looking like we did nothing whatsoever in terms of preparation for Louisville
- "disguising" our offensive plays every time Malcolm Lewis was isolated on the top of the screen
- losing to duke (I refuse to believe we are less talented than duke)
- making Logan Thomas look like a heisman winner

- I can kinda respect the job he's done recruiting under the circumstances but the on field product has been inexcusable

Al is as has been said awful with schemes a terrible game day coach and I am really starting to question whether he is any better at developing talent than randy and co.

If he won that bowl game he would have made things a whole lot better for him and recruiting... Kids and parents wont trust him if he cant win and thats what you have to realize. AG is a good coach and I appreciate everything he has done... I dont see us doing any better next year until D-No is gone...
