People need to get a little perspective here and take a step back from the hysteria and really analyze where this program is and has been.

There is no question we have some big issues. And Golden has not been perfect as a coach, and has made some big mistakes. There is also the issue of the defense, where some serious criticism and discussion is warranted.

But people need to take a step back and realize what this guy has had to deal with since he got here.

First off, he walked into a total monkey f*ck of a program. Shannon had finished running this program totally into the ground. There was no discipline, no structure, no work ethic or culture of leadership, accontability, or responsibility. Recruiting relationships were in shambles accross the board.

The man walks into a dumpster fire, and inherits FOUR commitments to work with, as Shannon had pretty much given up doing anything here. He is forced to slap together a last minute class of JAGS and rejects just to fill out the roster.

THEN, he's hit with the NCAA Shapiro mess. The program suffers from a massive embarassment, which significantly hurts recruiting, and more immidiately, leads to a SLEW of critical suspensions in his first season. He has to begin his first season here, with EIGHT of his key players and upper classmen starters suspended, including his starting QB, on what was already a thin and unbalanced roster.

THEN, that is followed by a bunch of guys we desperately needed, on a very thin roster, leaving early. Brandon Washington, Forston, Streeter, Lamar Miller, all key guys Golden was depending on to be the leadership and key starters on this team, all decide to bolt early to the NFL. This left us with thin depth, and short of "playmakers" on both sides of the ball. That was made even worse with Porter's injury that kept him out all year, and Cookie Buchanon being out with injury. The team's senior leadership and experience, already thin and lack luster, was further decimated. (That doesnt even factor in losing guys like Ray Ray).

THEN he's having to recruit with the NCAA cloud over his head, which was no joke. Everyone acts like it was a big joke now, but it wasnt. It certainly hurt us. And what happens the next off season? He has his Linebacking corps decimated when we lost EJ, Paul and Terry, leaving only DP as the only LB with any experience or ability on the whole team. An already weak and thin roster, got weaker and thinner.

And now here we are. No question the defense was a disaster this year. The Donofrio situation is a mess and really needs to be dealt with. Golden has some tough choices he has to make. But the guy still managed to win 9 games. He's steadily improved his record here, despite what really is a TRAINWRECK on this roster. He had ONE real playmaker on offense, who broke his ankle. A Freshman sensation with a world of talent and potential who is starting to come into his own, and 1 solid WR. His QB was a mess. And many, if not most of his defensive starters would probably struggle to start at USF for the most part. But with the NCAA mess now gone, he's put together a MONSTER recruiting class. One that REALLY has addressed our critical needs. IF we can hold this class together, and get these guys qualified, the talent is starting to come together.

I dont know if AG is going to become the next JJ here. He may succeed, and he may fail. But what I do know, is that the guy has been dealt some pretty sh*tty hands since he's been here. He's made the best of them, and has still managed to get a little bit better every year. Yes there are HUGE problems on this team, and they need to get fixed, and Im not sure if he can get it done or not. But I do know that UM cannot afford a Nick Saban type coach, and that one of the things that has really hurt this program, has been a total lack of consistency and massive turnover in the staff every year. I dont see how having our 5th HC in 13 years is going to magically solve anything, unless its a superstar type coach, the kind we cannot afford.

So maybe people need to take a step back, and look at the big picture, and see just how bad things have been in this program the last few years. Its not like this man was handed the keys to a Ferrarri as Coker was in 2001. The guy inherited a big pile of chicken sh*t, and I think he's done a fairly decent job overall with it. The young talent on this team, and the guys he is bringing in in the next class, give me hope that when this guy does get the players he wants and needs into the program, THEN, we may just see him be able to realize the vision he has for this team. Because all he's done the last 3 years is basically put out fires and move from one sh8tty situation to another.

The bottom line is, I dont think we have seen the best AG has to offer, and most of it has not been his fault. Yes, he's made mistakes, and he needs to get some major things fixed, but I think maybe a little patience, may pay off big here in another year or two. Something we as fans of this program have NOT had for a long time, and maybe its time we did.

We could afford Bobby Petrino, a "superstar" coach. Capitalize more words next time.

LMFAO. Oh we can? How the F*ck you know that? And who else is lining up to hire Bobby Petrino right now? Some of you really seem to have a hard time grasping that the University of Miami, is a UNIVERSITY of Higher Learning, with a President and BOT that dont make every decision based around what's good for the Football team. As shocking as this may be to some of you, the University exists for other reasons, than solely for the entertainment of Football fans.

If by some MIRACLE, everything fell into place, and we hired Petrino, which is never going to happen, the guy would be gone in 2 years. LSU, or some other big program will come along, now that we have "rehabilitated" his image, and offer him TWICE what UM can afford to pay, and he will bolt. Not just that, but there is no way Um could ever afford to pay the assistants he would want.

You guys really dont get it. UM is a SMALL PRIVATE university. It CANNOT afford to pay what Bama, UF, FSU, LSU, etc.. pay their coaches. As it is, UM is BARELY keeping up in this ballooning arms race, and its ONLY because of its legacy, and location in a talent rich environment.

Its always the same with the fans here. Fire this guy. Fire that guy. Fire Fire Fire. Its always the "next guy" whose going to save us. But its been a LONG time since we've had that guy. In fact, the LAST guy who did build a powerhouse here, guys like you were DEMANDING he be fired just like you are screaming about Golden. Until things finally clicked.

All Im saying is, maybe its time we just sat back, and let the guy put together what it is he wants to do, and see if it works. So far, its been a patchwork of sh8t, and one disaster after another he's had to deal with. Not really fair to say "he tried it his way and failed". Because he really hasnt had a chance to get it the way he really wants it. Its been one problem after another here. And the program was already in REAL bad shape when he took it over.

I'm not going to read all that, but point blank is we should have been 11-1 this year. We were good enough to beat everyone on our schedule save FSU. Instead, we drop 4 out of our last 6 games and give up nearly 500 yards of offense in each of the last 9 games of the season. Al Golden hasn't improved anything outside of recruiting.

Golden is a loser.

Didn't even read it, but I know it's retarded based on the title alone. Just give up, Baghdad Bob. You sound like Larry C0cker when he uttered the infamous "the fans' expectations are out of kilter" line.

That's the sort of **** that gets you fired immediately in the NFL. In college, you got dopey apologists lauding it and making excuses for the bum.

Cane4life, Nice post. These so called lynch mob type fans don't want to hear the truth, they want a rope and they want it now. They are powerless to do anything and it frustrates them to no end. These fans hate Golden,a good man, more than they do criminals, over a game played by kids. You would think they have nothing in their lives more important than Cane football, how sad.

Ah, of course it wouldnt take long for the Crown Prince of Mopery to chime in. Baghdad Bob? All I said was, maybe its time we faced reality, and just let this guy do his thing and see how it turns out. He's had a lot of sh8tty deals handed to him the last few years, which have made what was already a dumpsterfire, and even bigger sh*t show. And yeah he's made mistakes, but his record has also slowly but surely gotten better, and so has his recruiting. Kind of like how Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, Frank Beamer all started. And maybe he wont amount to sh*t, but at this point, burning through another coach really doesnt seem like a realistic option, not for a year or two.

But seriously, carry on, Im sure Nick Saban or Bobby Petrino will save us. Soon as you cats stop posting so much and start ponying up a few million a year to the AD. LOL. `

Moar excuses thread.... is op serious?

Excuses? Its the history of Golden's tenure here. You can call it what you want to. It is what it is. Are we all here because we want to be "right", or because we want this program to get better? Golden has had one sh*t show after another handed to him. Any anyone that denies that is full of sh*t. I have no idea if he can turn this program around and make us great again. What I DO know, is that he's had some pretty sh*tty things thrown in his way, and yet, our record has slowly but surely gotten better, and our recruiting is really starting to take off. So MAYBE, just MAYBE, a little patience is in order this time, before we run another coach out of town, and have to start from scratch again.

You all dont seem to get the concept that we cant drop 4-5 million dollars on a top level coach, and another few million on his assistants.

Only a functional ****** thinks we improved this year. We were no better, we just happened to have an aids schedule. Once we played decent teams, our defense looked high school level and the wheels came off the team. People looking at the fact we won 9 games are the same morans who cited Coker's record.

Yeah guys let him do his thing.

His thing had him go 0-4 against good teams this year with an average score of 42-17.

Hes fielded 2 top 25 defenses in 12 seasons as an HC/DC, so let's just sit back and let him go to work.

He's 2-12 against teams with 8 wins or more, so why don't we all take a breather, ok?

He just suffered the second worst bowl loss in program history, but hey, he might be onto something.

He's posted back to back defenses in the 90s or worse, but if you ask me, he's got something cooking.

And only a functional ******, cant comprehend that by the end of the season, our best RB was either a 3 star True Frosh from New York, or a converted DB Sophomore playing RB for his first year. Our starting MLB was a kid that only Buffalo wanted, and we had to take a BACKUP from UVA just to have enough bodies to field a **** DL. Our starting QB, was a nobody 2 star mope from Pace that was a project at best brought in by Whipple. This roster is more suited to USF than anything at the University of Miami, and much of it is what Golden was handed by Shannon and his horrible recruiting. Slowly some young talent is starting to trickle in, but that takes time. The same UM defense that gave up 66 points to Syracuse in 98 in one of the worst beatings in UM history, had a SLEW of future stars on it, like Dan Morgan, Nate Webster, Ed Reed, Damione Lewis, and many more. We are just STARTING to get those guys into the program.
