If anyone says Cam Ward is not the hands down Heisman leader

There's a lot going on here. Voters actually love all time record breaking seasons.

As far as the schedule. Yes, Oklahoma State played in the Big 8. So he played Nebraska (11-2), Oklahoma (8-4) and Colorado (9-3).

But their other 8 games?
K-State (0-11)
Miami of Ohio (0-10-1)
Kansas (1-10)
Missouri (3-7-1)
Tulsa (4-7)
Iowa St (5-6)
Texas Tech (5-6)
Texas A&M (7-6)

There's not much room for debate. Barry Sanders had the greatest season in history of college football.

Since he broke the record 36 years ago, RBs with weak schedules, RBs on run heavy teams, RBs who won the Heisman, RBs who went in the first round, RBs who would be inducted into the NFL hall of fame, have all tried to break it.

None of them have done it. The record is considered untouchable. Breaking an untouchable record is Heisman worthy.

All that being said.. He's not going to break it. The record is untouchable.
Voters have mostly ignored the guys who have come really close to breaking the record though. Melvin Gordon got 37 first place votes while Marcus Mariota got 788. Kevin Smith finished 8th when he made a run at the record.

G5 quarterbacks have smashed passing records for years and the only Heisman winner was Ty Detmer. Non power conference players always have that asterisk next to their statistics. It’s probably not fair but the Heisman is picked by voters and a lot of them don’t really take smaller conferences seriously

I can name a few players that did what Travis hunter did and didn’t win heisman , Chris Gamble, Devin Hester, Jabril Peppers, Deon himself. This Miami team would have 2 or 3 losses without Cam Ward. Cam Ward should be the clear leader.

So if Jeanty breaks Barry’s record…

And Cam breaks the NCAA passing TD record…

Who should get the Heisman?

ACCCG is Dec. 7.
Voting is complete Dec. 9.
If Cam stay at same trajectory as first 7 games, and he torches Clemson, then he will be clear cut winner.
The other scenarios are these.
1. Gabriel starts playing lights out every game going forward including Big10 CG. He wins if Ward falters against Clemson.
2. If both Ward and Gabriel falter in their respective CG's, then I could see a scenario that Jeanty wins it if he has broken Sanders record.

So ultimately this is Cam's trophy to lose.

Frankly as I see it, it doesn’t really matter what Cam realistically does if Jeanty beats Barry’s record he gets the Heisman. It’s seen as a sacred unbeatable record for awhile and he had his heisman moment against Oregon.
A few things here, and responding to some other posts. Yes, Jeanty is an absolute stud and #1 RB by a mile imo in this draft. BUT:

1. This notion that if he breaks Barry's record he is an automatic shoe in is short-sighted at best. Barry Sanders set that records in ELEVEN games play in the Big 8 (better competition than Jeanty). Getting to that number, should not be automatic Heisman, period. Comparing apples and oranges.

That's fewer games and more wear and tear vs tougher opponents, in addition to playing better competition.

2. Oregon's run defense is not very impressive to date. 59th in yards per rush and 49th in yards per game per teamrankings.com (no FCS). That offense is protecting that team's run D by staying ahead in most games. I would argue they were helped statistically by Ohio State refusing to run with their RBs in the second half despite Henderson and Judkins rushing for 91 and a TD on 14 carries in the first half (they did lose their LT for the season in 2nd half).

3. His other opponents rank 77, 119, 123, 133, in yards per rush allowed. Obviously, playing against Jeanty skews your numbers, but those are horrible rushing defenses anyway you slice it.

Still a lot of ball left for both players, but to date Jeanty has played very poor competition, INCLUDING Oregon's run D.

The updated odds is down right disrespectful to Cam Ward…

Do people actually watch cfb games when they roll with these narratives?

Travis Hunter is a special talent but he was terrible Saturday

in coverage and yet his odds to win the Heisman Trophy more than double after a deflected pick and a garbage time TD

One game with less than 300 yards and it was still a win. More TDs responsible for than anyone else in CFB this year I believe as well.
