IDGAF if we have a recruiting board, bring in this morther ******

Would this dude be our best LB prospect ever? Willie was pretty highly touted. DJ would be the best right?

He's never played a down of college football but he had all the physical attributes, would be a total monster in this defense

I know on our OV, we often take kids to the Rusty Pelican. To be honest, that wouldn’t impress a Cali kid, especially one from the IE or OC. We have our own Rusty Pelican out on the waters in New Port Beach. Even hood dudes go there to impress their side chicks.
Prime 112 needs to be the new spot. That’s where they took Hurts. That will impress anyone with a pulse.

Just so you know he missed the game lol

What. ****.

I'm not too young, but because they didn't have recruiting rankings like we do now that date back twenty years at this point, I don't really count those guys in these types of discussion...no tangible number to corroborate where to place Armstead. But, yeah, Armstead was great as a prospect. Probably would fit in right behind DJ Williams, but I don't know.
CaneinOrlando doesn't care if DJ was a 10*....
Willie was a better HS FB player....Best Defensive HS FB player I've ever seen....Hands down...

Looks like he had a great time

When a HS FB Coach (A Legend in Central Fl)
and one who coached Cane Legends in HS...looks me directly in the eyes and says Willie is the best HS FB player he ever saw...that pretty much sums it up...Between him and his brother, they coached Sapp...Searcy..Merriweather..and Horace Copeland in HS....He said in the State Championship against Carol City, he went into halftime and specifically tryed to adjust and gameplan against Willie...but to no avail...

It’s hard to label that kind of thing now only because super high ranked LBs have came here before and disappeared like Arthur brown and Willie. But the one that hurts the most is Willie. When he picked us in 04 I thought he not only was going to lead us to a NC but go down as the greatest LB to ever play the game for us and that’s saying something with some of the guys that have played that position for us. The dude was just so dominant in high school and I know he was a knucklehead but it still boggles my mind how someone that talented could just fall off the map like him. It really is the tragedy of Willie Williams. **** shame!

yeah, when Jimmy was recruiting him, he said,"I want #1, since Im the #1 recruit in the nation''(1989, Dallas Carter)
Armstead was the #1 defensive player, and if I recall correctly, Kevin Williams the #1 offensive player.

Armstead also wanted to void his LOI after Jimmy took the Cowboys job. A few recruits did. In today’s portal world, we could have lost them.

Two points:

1. Darren Krein, NOT Jessie Armstead, wanted out.
2. Jessie Armstead was the consensus #1 player in high school. Jimmy Johnson was so giddy and gushed that his signing was proof that the Canes ~"made it".
3. Arthur Brown, Leon William, DJ Williams, and Willie Williams were neck and neck for spots 2 through 5.
4. There are about 3 dozen players who were top linebackers in their class, but not as high overall as the above top 5.

I followed recruiting immensely from the early 80's through today. It wasn't internet based, but there was many exceptional sources back then. Don't delude yourself into thinking things are so different today than 35 years ago.

I was a kid, but if I remember the Miami Herald headline the day after signing day it was something like UM gets its ABC (Armstead, Barber and Copeland)

Well, aren’t you special.

Yes, Williams was a tragedy. Knucklehead beats talent every time.

A little before my time, but older Cane fans talk about a running back Freddie Miles. Local Miami. To a person, they swear Miles was the greatest HS running back they every saw. Period. Signed with Miami (Schnellenberger era) but poor grades kept him out. He later got in trouble with the law and developed a serious drug problem. Never made it.

Yes. I remember when he announced and pulled out that Canes jersey with a number 1 on it.

Think he was injured at some point at UM and may have had surgery, but he bounced back and got drafted.

Who cares what the nerd recruiting sites rank players, the main thing, if he signs here, can he actually play at a high level. Nobody with real football knowledge gives a damyum about stars and rankings the only ranking that'll matter is where he ranks is where he's ranked on the depth chart here, other than that, i'd be impressedif he chose to come here knowing, barring injury what our linebacker depth chart may look like like as well as with the current crop of linebackers committed, if he still commits, that'll tell me alot more about him as a person than whether we can recruit or not. Also those who keep repeating the "we have to start winning to get these type of recruits" i got a message for you, we dont need no band wagon recruits.
