hurricanes in the NFL HOF

Agree on the Chris carter stuff. It's amazing that in baseball people are called stat compilers but when it comes to football u never hear it. Carter was not an elite wr. He was mostly a compiler. 16years!

He belongs in. But the constant "he had to wait.... So x player will have to wait" is a bad argument with CC

Lewis and Reed are locks. Andre Johnson, Reggie and Vince are close calls. Gore needs 2-3 more good years. I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if Edgerrin ever got it. I'd be VERY surprised if Hester got in.
If Edge doesn't blow his knee out he's in. Same for McGahee.

If Portis hadn't got greedy (not that I blame him!) and stayed in Denver he'd be in too.

OldhamA, good call on Polamalu. No way that guy gets in if things stay the way they are. They might "Lynn Swann" him in. (Feel sorry for him because he is a Steeler great, a geniunely good guy and teammate, and had some really memorable plays in NFL history so the HOF committee let him in after making him wait 1000 years.)

I gotta disagree with you there. He has missed a ton of time but when he was playing he was neck and neck with Ed. He is the next guy in line after Ed gets in. Those plays he made are exactly the type of stuff they do remember and it doesn't hurt he played for a brand like the Steelers.

Edge yeah but Willis, too many question marks.......

Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are locks.

Wilfork is an interesting case. I think he needs to put in a little more work and have another dominant season or two before he gets in, but he's a definite possibility.

Reggie Wayne and Andre Johnson will wait a long time before they go to the Hall of Fame. There are too many wide receivers on the waiting list to get in the Hall that place historically higher than them. FWIW, I think AJ gets in before RW. But when you still have players like Tim Brown and Andre Reed not in the Hall of Fame and Cris Carter JUST got in, the voters need to figure out where a bunch of wide outs from this era fit historically. If we are looking at historically, how many wide receivers can you truly put in from a singular era? Moss is getting in. Owens' career numbers get him in. Marvin Harrison gets in. Isaac Bruce will probably get in based on numbers alone. But now you got a glut of guys like Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Torry Holt, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson...that is a lot of players in consideration for the Hall of Fame from the same era. Some of them are going to get left out. You have players like Hines Ward with 1000 career catches and won a few Super Bowls, Super Bowl MVP, All-Time leading receiver for a team that has a few Hall of Fame wide receivers already, 4x Pro Bowler, 3x 2nd Team All-Pro and he won't get to the Hall in all likelihood. Reggie and Andre have had great careers, but they might not be slam dunk Hall of Famers.

I don't see Edge or Hester getting in.

Andre Johnson is a lock. Not only does he deserve it, but John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is AJ's biggest supporter and a very influential member of the HOF selection committee. He will pound the table for him.

I'd say Ray, Reed and AJ are locks, and Reggie, Wilfork and Hester can play their ways in depending how they finish their careers.

Those doubting Hester of having a chance are mistaken. He would go in as a returner. Granted he would need several more seasons at a high level returning punts and kicks, but he he does have an outside chance.

I dont think its an outside chance on Hester although it will probably take him a while to get in.

Set his career record today with 249 return yards. He is the best return man in the history of the sport. Its going to be interesting how voters handle that. Dont see how you cant put someone in who was the best ever at an aspect of the game.

Jimmy Graham is also another guy who is going to have a great shot

Edge will get in. For whatever reason people forget that he dominated his position for a 5 year stretch which is a big criteria of the selection committee.

I think sean taylor should get in based off of his UM career and short time in the league... I still see people rocking 21 jerseys in the stands...

Calling any WR a "lock" is silly at this point. There is such a log jam at that position right now it will take almost any WR years to get in unless they are going in with Randy Moss type numbers.

Marvin Harrison, Tim Brown, Terrell Owens, Issac Bruce, Hines Ward, Randy Moss, Andre Reed, Torry Holt are all stuck in that retired logjam then you have guys like Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith, Anquan Boldin, Wes Welker and Larry Fitzgerald all jammed into that same age range as Andre with similar/better numbers.

Will Andre get in? Probably, but it's certainly no lock.

there is not a "logjam" at WR.

Not for truly great WRs.

Why are people even Mentioning Hines Ward? Hines Ward and Andre Johnson?? Really? laughable.

Then you got guys like Torry Holt being mentioned ahead of Wayne? Really? Wayne already has better numbers AND he still has at least 2 more decent seasons ahead of him. By the end of this thing he may have 1100+ catches for 15,000 yards and 90 tds.

You guys are insane on this WR thing.

There's a reason why Chris Carter, Andre Reid, and Tim Brown were waiting... they are all borderline HOF players.

Marvin Harrison isn't gunna be waiting for years like those guys. Neither will Fitz, or Calvin, Moss, Andre, etc.

LOL at Steve Smith, Anquan Boldin. Are you guys serious?

Cris Carter was a "borderline HOF" despite having 1,101 catches 13899 yards and 130 TDs, but Andre is a lock?

If Jerry Rice didn't exist Carter would have held almost every receiving record in the NFL when he retired.

Steve Smith has 783 catches, 11555 yards and 64 TDs
Anquan Boldin has 786 catches 10380 yards and 59 TDs
Andre Johnson has 838 catches 11476 yards and 56 TDs.

Where exactly is the power gap? Especially when you factor in Andre having nothing in terms of playoff success and a guy like Boldin who has been one of the most productive playoff players in the last 5 or 6 years.

A few things on the "logjam"

Andre Reed was never 1st team all pro. not once.
Tim Brown was never 1st team all pro. not once.
Hines Ward was never 1st team all pro. not once.

Andre has 3 1st team all pro's and 2 second team, and if he stays healthy he'll get a 6th all pro team in 2013.

Those 3 guys above who are "jamming up the WR works"....

have a COMBINED 6 All Pro teams between the 3 of them. All for 2nd team. (Ward 3, Reed 2, Brown 1)

The debate should be what it will take for Andre Johnson to be a 1st ballot. He's already destroyed those 3 cats in just 10 seasons.

I would like to take back something I said earlier...

Steve Smith actually has an outside chance. Sometimes I forget how good he was during the Jake Delholme (sp?) years.

Boldin has zero chance though. Just like Vilma and Santana Moss in case that needed to be reiterated. lol

I think Wilfork will be in the HOF. The dude has been a dominant NT for 10+ years. Stats are tough at that position but I will be shocked if he doesnt eventually make it in. Way too many people know he's an absolute beast.

Vilma is not even a borderline "borderline" guy. He's had a very good career but that's probably it.

I think Hester will make it in one day if only because he's clearly the greatest return man ever. If he doesnt make it in, then we will never see a return specialist go into the HOF in our lifetime. Especially since the NFL is moving toward trivializing returns.

Wayne and Edge are defintiely borderline guys. I think Wayne has a better shot than Edge.

I will be surprised if DreJ doesnt make it at some point.

As for Polomalu, I think he's going to make it at some point. No question he was a dominanat S on a 2x super bowl winner.
