hurricanes in the NFL HOF

Agree with the board that Lewis, Reed are locks. I think Wayne and aj are locks also with edge, wilfork eventually getting in. I think gore, vilma are borderline and don't see hester getting in.

My man, vilma is the man but he is nowhere, nowhere near borderline.

You're probably right the more I think about it, just wishful thinking on my part

Lewis and Reed are locks. Andre Johnson, Reggie and Vince are close calls. Gore needs 2-3 more good years. I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if Edgerrin ever got it. I'd be VERY surprised if Hester got in.

I think at his pace Dre is a lock. Reggie even though he is a stat machine was on the outside looking in a couple years ago, but that appears to be changing. The knock on Reggie is that while he was always a high level player he never had the rep of being an elite NFL WR like Dre. While he was a top 10 guy at his position he was never Dre, Fitzgerald or Megatron. Still at this point his overall numbers are top 10 ever and if he has another two okay years, he will be top 5. Think he gets in. Edge, man he is borderline but I don't think he gets in, same goes for Gore and Hester. Vince will get in, the role he plays just isn't ever gonna be flashy, but eventually he also gets in.

Andre and Reggie will be in the HOF. It will just take longer than expected. Marvin Harrison, Isaac Bruce, Tim Brown and a few others are ahead in numbers and still waiting to get in. I know it's not all about numbers tho. They will get in, just not as fast as Ed Reed or Ray Lewis.

If Dre stays healthy, his numbers are gonna surpass all three of those guys in the next three years.

This and Wayne can pass them in yards and catches as well

I've had this discussion a number of times recently. Reed and Lewis are obvious locks. Andre and Wayne have shots but getting into the HOF nowadays is so hard, if they get in it will take a while, is no guarantee but some more solid seasons helps there case. Wilfork also probably should be in. Edge has a chance. Of active players Jimmy Graham has a shot, but don't see anyone else currently in NFL having much of a shot.

Hester and Vilma are not even in conversation...sorry. And Gore isn't too close either to be honest.

Gore is kind of like E.James, both are all-time leading rushers for their franchise. So i think both should make it in. Gore just need another 2,000 yards to reach 10k

Old post I had below, I think the shoe-ins are Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Edge may possibly make it in (11th in Rushing, 18th in TDs), Clinton Portis won't.

This post was before the season, pure statistical analysis.

Reggie Wayne

Currently he sits at 14th in Rec Yards (13,063 Yards), 10th in Receptions (968) and 24th in TDs (78)

Lets say he has two decent season left (or one good year like 2012 and a sub-par year) where he complies the following stats

2013 and 2014 Stats

1750 Yards

175 Receptions

10 TDs

That would put him 6th in Yards (above Harrison), 3rd in Receptions (above Harrison) and 11th in TDs. He is getting in the HOF, just not first ballot.

---------------------------------

How about Andre Johnson (31)?

Andre just had a beast season with almost 1600 Yards, 112 Receptions and 4 TDs. His issue is touchdowns and lack thereof.

He currently sits at 11,254 Yards (27th), 56 TDs (82nd) and 818 Receptions.

How about 4 More Quality Seasons with

3750 Yards

375 Receptions

and

22 Touchdowns

That would put him 4th in Receptions, 4th in Yards and 11th in TDs. He is getting in the HOF, just not first ballot.

--------------------------------

The hardest one to forecast is Santana Moss (33), It is clear he has the most work to do just to be considered.

2012 Numbers: 573 Yards, 8 TDs and 41 Receptions.

He currently sits at 42nd in Yards (9715), 52nd in TDs (64th) and 42nd in Receptions (68th)

He has a lot of work to do and product has trailed a lot over the past two years. If he could average 3 more years like 2012 he would accumulate an additional

1600 Yards, 24 TDs and 120 Receptions which would put him at

About 25th in Yards, 11th in TDs and 27th in Receptions.

He is not close with those numbers and has a lot of work to do.

-----------------

Frank Gore (30)?

Before the season, Frank the tank had the following stats

Rushing Yards: 8839
Touchdowns: 51 Rushing and 10 Receiving

2012 Statistics: 1214 Rushing Yards, 8 TDs, 234 Receiving Yards, 1 TD

Currently 34th in Rushing Yards, 52nd in Rushing Touchdowns.

Let's say Frank plays 3 more seasons and puts up the following numbers

2900 Rushing Yards

20 Rushing TDs

That would put him at

11,739 Rushing Yards (15th), everyone above him is in the HOF besides Edge.
71 Rushing TDs (27th), many of above him are in the HOF or will be in the HOF (Adrian Peterson, LT).

Santana Moss and Jon Vilma have 0% chance. Why are even being discussed?

People keep talking about this logjam at WR. Marvin Harrison will be well in by then and he's the only one you need to even consider. comparing these dudes to Chris carter is worthless.

Harrison buries Carter in every way. He put up better numbers in about 40 less games! And he was considered elite in his day which Carter never was.

Carter is much more like Wayne. Wayne will get in... he may just have to wait 2-5 years.

Gore has almost no shot. He needs so many more good years and he also needs a title ala the Bus.

I still think Edge will get in, but he never should have left Indy. He'd be a lock if he didn't go to Arizona.

i think if they are pro bowlers this year, aj and wayne get in. maybe wilfork with a pro bowl could probably get it. I think gore would need 2-3 more pro bowls.

reed and lewis are looks. either way, we are creeping up on usc.

Too much benefit of a doubt to the receivers, particularly Reggie Wayne. It's such a passing league these days that the old records will be avalanched. If you aren't special enough to get in very early, your numbers will look quite pedestrian down the road. Wayne has seldom if ever been considered one of the top guys at his position. He'd need the Art Monk route. I thought that was bogus as heck but too many softies pushed for Monk, while Paul Zimmerman admirably opposed him.

Hester would have a chance with perhaps 5 more return touchdowns, especially if at least one or two of them were high profile in meaningful games. But as someone else posted, I'm not sure he'll get even one more. Returning is a young man's game.

BTW, about 6 or 7 years ago I posted a prop on a different site, which would be higher, Devin Hester return touchdowns or Tiger Woods majors? It drew quite a bit of debate. Hester has the edge right now and neither number has budged for years. I still would favor Tiger.

We may catch USC's current number but they have some likely enshrinees as well, guys like Seau and Polamalu.

Santana Moss and Jon Vilma have 0% chance. Why are even being discussed?

Because the title of the thread is Hurricanes in the NFL HOF, hence we're discussing players in the NFL and their chances. Moss and Vilma have a low chance of making it in, but is it fair to discuss it.

Come on MBecks22, let's be fair.

Good thread..Here is my take.

- We can all agree that Lewis and Reed are 1st ballot locks. Wayne will get in on 2nd ballot. Cant have Michael and Cris wait and not have Reggie wait at least one go round. You guys know that the HOF is full of stupid politics. Peter King being the leader of that pack. (Even though when its all said and done Wayne stats will give him a great case to be a 1st ballot)

- Andre is not playing for whether he gets in..But rather when he gets in. Two more monster seasons and he is 2nd ballot. He gets a ring with two more monster seasons and he is 1st ballot.

- Wilfork and Hester are very intriguing. There will be some guys in that HOF room who will fight for Hester believe that. He is the greatest Special teams weapon ever. He returns a few more kicks and I think he will come down to the wire. There are really some guys, who carry alot of weight, that believe he is a HOFer. Like Bob Costas. Wilfork to me is like Gore. Just dont think he has enough All Pro selections and Pro Bowls under his belt. He still has time to build the resume though.

-I would love for EJ to get in but he just didnt dominate long enough. (Like he did his first two years) And he doesnt have a ring.

- People throw the Cris Carter example out there but Carter played for **** near 16 years and only made 1st team all pro TWICE and second team all pro TWICE. So FOUR times in 16 years he was considered top 6 at his position for that year. Dont get me wrong, Carter was a great receiver and he deserves to be there and he shouldnt have had to wait THAT long. But the reason he has all those records is because he played forever and he played in pass happy offenses. He will not be the measuring stick for all WRs to come IMO.

- Totally agree that JB and ST would be HOFers if not for God calling them home too soon. RIP.
