Hurns' Dad

If I really thought we could do that fast, I could agree with you. Unfortuanately our DL isn't going to become dominant with the guys coming back, the backup LB are the same, and we still lack depth everywhere. Add in an inconsistente QB who is unlikely to become more accurate (smarter, better decisions, but if he hasn't figured out how to throw those short passes on target consistently by now it isn't happening) and I see an 8-4 team at best.

He's mad because Hurns wants to leave early and now misses his last 3-4 chances to show out due to the injury and ban.

Have always heard/read Hurns talked about in a positive light, but also remember one of our old "friends" from canesport saying his boy Bubba is absolutely leaving early.

His dad wasn't even calling about the bowl ban. He was talking about Hurns not playing last week.

I think Hurns wanted to look like a badass playing with a cast but the staff wasn't having it.

If they have God-given talent? Yes, they get better. If they don't? Not really. And you do realize this is the worst DL in recent Miami history, arguably one of the worst in D1A/FBS football, don't you? You really think this is the year Porter stays healthy? I don't think that's a safe assumption. Pierre looks good at times, awful at times. We'll see. As for freshmen, haven't we seen how that works out over the past few years.?
They will play hard, they'll come back a little bigger, but it's wishful thinking at best to think we're suddenly going to have a DL who can stand up to a good OL. Talent does matter and we just haven't recruited well at that position in years. Maybe we'll find a good JC transfer or two, but barring that, our improvement will be minimal IMO.

Yup, I'm sure they should take a bowl ban next year when we go 9-3 or 10 and 2. I'd imagine the same posters and Dads would be in melt down mode if that happened. I can see it now, why didn't we take a bowl ban last year when the team was rebuilding, lol.

I'd be pretty ****ed. And, if it was your son, you'd be, too.

Not if you're able to see the big picture and how it affects the school - not just Allen Hurns. These parents are incapable of seeing it, unfortunately.

Every player on the D-line besides Porter and Robinson are true Sophomores. You don't think True Sophomores are going to get any better? GTFOOH!

Briscoe, Ivery, and Moore aren't going to get any better despite the fact that every player on the roster is getting better? LOL! Porter and Pierre are going to be a great 1st string tandem if Porter stays healthy this offseason. Then you have Robinson, King, Moore, Briscoe, and Ivery battling for second string? That doesn't even include the freshmen that will be in this next class. The future is very bright on defense. Just because this JV defense didn't dominate this season doesn't mean they won't make a huge leap for next season.

Ivery, Briscoe, and Moore were very highly recruited. Pierre was a gem that all Miami fans said was a "Temple" recruit that is turning out to be just like Wilkerson who nobody wanted who ended up a 1st round pick. This D-line will be much improved and if you can't see that then just get behind FSwho...

Whatever you want to believe, friend. I honestly hope you're right and one of these guys turns into the next Jerome Brown. Or even Jimmie Jones. I'll even settle for Adrian Wilson and Quincy Hipps.

I'll choose to believe that this coaching staff is going to develop talent like they've been dong since they arrived on campus. Just because you like other fans have unrealistic expectations doesn't mean this coaching staff doesn't have talent waiting to blow up next year. Porter and Pierre will set the tone and the ballers behind them will have something to prove.

Like I said, I hope you're right. Your faith in the staff is commendable, I don't necessarily share it just yet, but we'll see.

J*sus Chr*st people. How any rational man could go into this season and not recognize, at the very least, that there was a distinct possibility that we would self-impose is beyond me. Miami was not going to self-impose before the season. That would be negligent, presumptuous, and essentially meaningless. It would reek of desperation and deny Donna and her advisors valuable time to gather intelligence, monitor developments, think, and make a reasoned decision - which is exactly what these players deserved. Blast Shapiro; blast Ray Armstrong; blast Pee Wee; blast Kyle f*cking Wright; blast Frank Haith and his cadre of incompetents; blast Aubrey Hill's Gator ***; blast Paul Dee; sh*t, blast Clint Hurtt. But stop contributing to the already incredible levels of unfair stress Al Golden and his players have to deal with on a daily basis by irrationally criticizing the Administration for doing exactly what it should be doing and exactly the way it should be doing it.

I can guarantee you this: the people that made this decision and are controlling this process are more experienced, more informed, and smarter than pretty much everyone on this board. Juxtapose how Ohio State, USC, and UNC handled their investigations. OSU cost itself a chance at a MNC. USC's hubris, leaks, and grandstanding clearly intensified its penalties. And UNC has set itself up for an additional investigation and potential sanctions by trying to minimize its failures of control.

Alan Hurns is one of us. I'm proud to call him a Cane. But he's no bigger than this program. He's not been treated unfairly by anyone except the NCAA. He's going to miss a chance to play in the ACCCG -- a chance, by the way, that wasn't necessarily earned on the field, but rather handed to him by default because UNC is ineligible. But that's just one game. And he's just one player. The Administration is trying to ensure Alan and all of his teammates, present and future, have the opportunity to play in several of those games in the years to come.

**** it that's well said

Feel bad for the kids...they have to go to practice and whatnot knowing their dads are being retarded

Leave early for what? The CFL? Streeter made a mistake by leaving early, so Hurns even thinking about it is a joke.

DCF- the Defense was ranked 118 two weeks ago. Yes, we've played tons of freshmen, many of whom are very talented, but for the first 6-8 weeks we were starting more upperclassmen who didn't develop, for whatever reason, despite being through 2 offseasons with this staff. I was with you in believing things were improving until I saw that atrocious performance against UVA. I hope you're right on this but I'm not assuming anything until I see the evidence on the field.

His dad wasn't even calling about the bowl ban. He was talking about Hurns not playing last week.

Uhh....no. He called in and started talking about the bowl ban, and asked how it was fair, especially to his son who played hurt, and now they're taking the bowl away from them.

I don't disagree with your posts often but in this case you are dead wrong.
One thing to be ****ed off and something totally different to go on the radio and do slam the school publicly.
I had a son who was the most talented kid on his HS football team and many times I disagreed with how the head coach handled my son role on the team besides other issues. But never tried to create a scene in which my son gets embarrassed or were I made a fool of myself.

His son just went out onto the football field with a real injury with the risk of further injury, and played because he had something to play for...and it was for nothing.

I'd be pretty ****ed. And, if it was your son, you'd be, too.

He was cleared to play by the medical staff, though. It's not as if it was Hurns' decision to play through an injury b/c the team really, really needed him. Had he known going into the game we were self-imposing, what was he going to do, tell Golden he didn't feel like playing b/c it was pointless?

I agree it's gotta be disappointing for these kids to not have their effort and hard work rewarded. And as a parent, you never want to see your kids upset or disappointed.

Can you blame him? While I agree that we should be self-imposing a bowl, we should have done it at the beginning of the year. This was managed very poorly.

You cant self impose before you qualify. You have to be bowl eligible first. Lol

Incorrect. There are actually cases where teams declared before they became eligible. Do some research.

You can't ban a bowl game if you haven't made it to one yet that's why they didn't do it at the beginning of the season

Wrong again...you guys are just making stuff up now.

Ive seen a few posters say that you could self impose before your bowl eligible but i have yet to see any of them post a credible piece of info. THere is a reason why 2 seasons in a row we waited till we were bowl eligible to self impose?
