HS coaching talent moving to ATL

I attended a few Edgewater football games coached by Coach Cameron Duke, who replaced the disaster of a coach, Chris Leak. Coach Duke is a good coach and has had some talent to work with. He is not perfect, but definitely an upper tier football coach who didn’t win a state championship at Edgewater, but he made the state championship game a couple of times. I believe his dad was a coach at one time and used to attend some games.

It’s a great hire for Marietta. It’s not uncommon for Georgia to poach Florida coaches for a variety of reasons, such as higher pay, cheaper housing and a more welcoming community for their families. These reasons have already been detailed on this CIS post here. Duke isn’t the first to leave and he likely won’t be the last either.

However, fewer well paying jobs, gentrification and higher costs of living in Florida, we are also seeing changing demographics in areas that are fertile recruiting grounds for the Canes and other programs, especially urban areas like Miami. many high school athletes’ families are relocating to Georgia for better jobs, cheaper housing and a more receptive communities. Travis Hunter is a high-profile example of Florida-born talent families moving out of state (W Palm Beach) to Georgia (Suwanee). There are others too

I have 2 friends that are HCs in Georgia making 125k and 115k a year.

No teaching, no additional school system employment, just football. One gets a new Toyota Tundra provided/donated from a local car dealer every 2 years in July/August when the next year model rolls out.

And their staff budgets would align with a powerhouse D2 or even some FCS programs.

Insane. He’s turned down position coach jobs at FBS programs just because it’s so much more low stress and no recruiting responsibilities.
Are they looking for a kicking coach? I'll do it for no less than 90k.

Jamal Lewis. Whose son also plays at Chamblee.

FYI, if you lived in metro Atlanta you would be as shocked as I am that they are at Chamblee High. Spanish was pretty much the first language at that high school a few years ago.
When i lived in atl they sucked in football
Early 2000s

U get bored check what Texas does. Lmao. That's why most of us have been saying for years coaching isn't in place and we're seeing south Florida football become nothing too special. When you combine this level of athletes and mold them with proper coaches and young impressionable minds eager to learn **** gets dangerous.

It’s not only income, the property tax and homeowner’s insurance rates are just ridiculous in this state now. Some people are starting to pay more in escrow for tax/insieance than the actual mortgage payment.
I’m literally considering the move myself if my rates go any higher.

Nobody wants to pay 2 mortgages for one house.
Tell me about it. Between my property taxes and homeowners insurance I’m paying like 5 grand a year. Luckily the house is paid off. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky though when you read all these horror stories about people being dropped by their insurance. Plus, going back to the OP’s point, housing is WAY cheaper in Georgia. Shoot, you could buy a friggin mansion for 500k in certain parts of Georgia.

They make as much money as a professional head coach in the 3rd Bundesliga, which is PROFESSIONAL GERMAN SOCCER.

My HS coach is the HC at Lambert. He was making more at Tift as an OC than he ever did as a HC in FL. FL pays crap.

I’m a little surprised Milton isn’t on that list at this point.
Can’t be too far behind, Grayson probably have the best faculties in ATL metro area. Their coach isn’t on the list but i’m sure making 6 figures

Chad Frazier was my head coach in high school for my last two yrs. He’s 16th on this list. Just was curious what he’s done since I graduated in ‘09. He’s at Whitewater now, which is in Fayetteville. Fayetteville has a lot of money in the area, as well as one of the biggest film studios in the A. Few games over .500 and you can make 6 figures lol

He's a recruiter first, a coach second. He'll be fine up there recruiting to that really nice campus

I’m not aware of any high school basketball or football head coaches in metro Atlanta that do not make 100k. It’s pretty much the standard. I can’t speak for the state as there are some very poor areas in this state, but metro Atlanta its at least 100k. Of course it’s hard to buy a home or live in metro Atlanta for less than that so cost of living is a thing.
Not disputing you at all, but things must've really changed in the ATL metro. I lived in Tallahassee, but worked and had an apartment in ATL back in the late 90's/early 2000's and it was cheaper to buy a house in ATL than it was in Tally/Jacksonville. Homes in Cobb and Hendry were MUCH less expensive than most neigborhoods in Tally. For instance, a 1700 sqft home in my neighborhood back then was around $110K and I walked through a couple of new 3000 sqft homes in Hendry that were only $135K-$140K. As you mentioned, homeowner's insurance is also a lot more expensive in FL nowadays.

I also encourage our Florida-based fans, who are about 50% of the site's membership by polling, to get involved with your local high schools as boosters.
