How long do you give a coach to turn it around?

We have had a coach that actually won the coastal but had to give it up do to sanctions. Improved in wins each year.have recruited very well and always get some studs. He is right on track in my book to right the ship 4-5 years.

When did he win the coastal?

When did the NCAA tell him that his team couldn't play in the ACCCG?

4 years if miami was in the sec west and wasn't surrounded by 15-20 future NFL players each recruiting cycle.

He's talking about the previous season. We actually tied UNC for the division, where UNC would've gone had they not had a post season ban themselves. This allowed Miami to go to the ACCCG, where we punished ourselves with a postseason ban, allowing GT to go to the game. We would've won based on a technicality. Yay!

I know...which means that we actually DID NOT win the coastal...thanks for helping to illustrate.

By that actual logic, we did not win the coastal, because UNC gave it up due to sanctions.

Depends on the quality of assistant coaches he brings in. Golden is a fine head coach. But his loyalty to Dino will be his undoing.

Golden has had one year to recruit without sanctions looming. With that said, I believe the talent level is where it needs to be to compete for an ACC championship…if we don't, it will be a disappointment.

Though, I would be willing to bet that GT has some sort of banner/trophy that says ACC coastal champs 2012.. So there is some credence to it. But it would have been by default.

Back to the OP, I am in the every situation is unique boat. Given the circumstances I think he deserves 5 yrs. However, if the defense looks terrible again, I think you FORCE the DC out. If AG will not then he writes his own ticket out of here, but I think he would let him go if we struggle again. Actually, I think he knows he will have to if we struggle defensively again. But given the investigation, the way AG handled it (like a PRO), and the things he has put in place, like the access to the team, the community, the really cheap camps, including the local coaches. Regardless, AG is one **** of a CEO. If he loses the team like he did at the end of last yr, I.E. just not even show up for the first bowl game in 3 yrs, then he could even coach his way out this year. But in my opinion for this situation he should get 5 yrs...

FAST FORWARD / HISTORY LESSON.....BIGGER QUESTION....IF GOLDIE GETS THE AXE AFTER THIS YEAR....WHAT COACH (PRIMETIME OR ONE WITH A PULSE) WILL BE FROTHING AT THE MOUTH TO WORK FOR A MINIMUM WAGE COACHES SALARY, PLAY IN FRONT OF AN EMPTY STADIUM ONLY TO BE CRUCIFIED IN 2-3 YEARS FOR PLAYING ALL FRESHMEN AND HAVING "UNDER DEVELOPED PLAYERS" BECAUSE GOLDIES ENTIRE JUNIOR AND SENIOR CLASS SAID "**** THIS ****" AND TOOK A NUMER IN LINE AT THE NFL COMBINE? .....SOUND FAMILIAR?.....IT SHOULD......

I am not making excuses for Golden as he has made his share of mistakes. But, when he got here the cupboard was dry. Literally, there were less talented premidonas all over the roster. Not many were willing to put in the work. He has steadily improved the talent and depth minus the DT position. This team is better off now than when he got here. It has taken longer than expected but again, he was also working against the investigation and negative recruiting... With all that being said, I think he has this yr and next to show something. We have a young QB this yr but IMO talent everywhere else. The true sign will be if we struggle mightily again on defense, will we make changes to fit our personnel vice sticking with this vanilla BS soft defense???

My take, and I am no pro here, a few subtle changes on defense and we are a completely different team. Way more competitive..

Typically new coach clean out the previous coaches players but in goldens case he could not do it. For that i'd give golden 2 years free. BUT in no way should miami not be able to compete in the coastal even during the uncertainty. I still dont believe the talent level is top 20ish OVERALL most of the players that are being praised have not done a thing on the field other than the obvious duke, coley, etc

This is essentially my take on Golden right here. This year to me will put Golden on a really hot seat if it goes bad. Hopefully they allow the defense to play more aggressive and down hill.

the record has been better every year, last year we were a 9 win team, so if we go on the increase of wins this year should be a ten win team

if not then he gets no pass, QB or no QB you have talent to off set that

this is the year where we will see if golden is a average coach or the coach we all thought he would be when he was first hired

It depends. If the program is a perennial *******....like Duke, i'll give dude like 7 seasons. At a place like Miami...no more than 4 years.

I believe the answer from the mope squad is "I've seen all I need to see after Maryland".

So 1 game.

It depends. If the program is a perennial ****ter....like Duke, i'll give dude like 7 seasons. At a place like Miami...no more than 4 years.

I think this is fair. Depends on the program and it depends on the conditions of the program.

I base my answer on improvement and actions:

1. We have ZERO improvement in the ACC since 2012,

2. His decision on retaining certain members of staff (Kehoe, DC and Jethro), and

3. The PSU debacle
