How in the SAMS **** is VT still a starter here??

I'd like to see how VT does with some other DB's around him that are solid. He's been playing with a bunch of dudes who had no business at DB ever. So it's possible that he was taking the blame for other people's mistakes alot. So he's not one of the greats. What he is is a senior at a position where we have hardly any experience. He has been the last line of defense on a unit that has had holes all over the place for the entire time he's been here starting. Think about that before you trash the kid.

Bottom line to me is, if your safety is leading the team in tackles then you have problems with the front 7. Don't blame VT because he can't fill all the holes we've had.

Honestly, He is clearly our best returning safety. He has had some good moments here as talked about in this thread.

How is he starting? Because he is the best we have got right now. And that is pretty clear. Kacy Rodgers is a much bigger ? than VT is imo.

It's not hate if it's true brother, he's too slow and doesn't tackle well. Why didn't USC offer this "stud" from their own pipeline polytech????

I'd rather live with the mistakes of the younger more athletic Jenkins/Bush in a 7 win at best season and have those guys ready when we really play for something down the road like the ACC Title or a BCS Bowl

Not hate whiners, real talk.

According to Scout, they did offer.

They offered at the last minute, after two other safety options they preferred didn't pan out and he was already committed to us. Polytech is to USC as MNW to us, they knew he was overrrated. They had another recruit Davidson in the secondary with VT, he didn't get offered either, and I believe he is now a backup lb at UNC.

Vaughn had a huge State champ game (11 tackles, 3 ints) but USC people I talked too said he was an athelte in HS, but not projected to be a great college safety.

fwiw I hope he is an All-American safety this season and makes me eat my words, but I won't hold my breath.

VT is this years Jacory. They both have no biz being on the field.

Don't want to make this thread about Jacory but can one of the new rules of the board be who ever says he sucked last year get a permaban?

He was the 3rd in the conference in Comp% and 3rd in QB rating. He didn't suck.

Thank You, we would be lucky to have Morris put up those #s this season

He did everything he could to get us a W vs Maryland last year.

And that was the last time he stood out in any game last year. Man I thought he was going to be a beast last year after that game. He is an average safety who looks really bad when he decides to take his usual **** poor angles. If his angles weren't so bad, most would probably think he is steady and reliable but the angles he takes puts him in terrible position leaving him to dive at ankles.

I'd start Highsmith and Kacy. If they failed Then start putting the frosh in there.
VT would never play again kind of like Greg Threat

Agreed. recruiting at safety has been awful. Bush should not start for THE U for another two years. Way too raw. Does not make plays yet.

I wonder how all the people who are willing to "live with the mistakes" would feel if Golden started all these inferior freshmen all over the place and won 3 games. Favoritism is fine as long as the guy who's playing is the guy you want, right?

Cant cover.
Cant tackle.
The film dont lie. He cant play.
Put in a young buck and let them live and learn
Cant be any worse than having VT back there diving at ankles and whiffing completely

Short answer: He's the best we got... unfortunately.

When we recruited him I thought he was headed for greatness. Even before last year I thought he had a chance for a big career. Hopefully he has that year. He isn't Bennie Blades, he's Al Blades.

I would take an Al Blades like senior season.

He wishes he was Al blades
We've seen what VT can do, and it's very very average. Time to turn the page
Who knows what Kacy or Highsmith got? We know they are better athletically and
That's a start

Why are you attacking the motives of posters instead of just addressing the issue at hand (whether VT should be starting)? People are free to want whoever they want starting at safety. Giving extremely valuable playing time to youngsters, even if it costs us in the short term, is an extremely credible reason for not wanting to waste snaps on a 5th year has-been who wont be back next year and who has never demonstrated anything beyond serviceable, average, mediocre safety play.

Personally, i think Vaughn will get the start in the beginning. But if he continues to fail, i would not be surprised to see him lose playing time. As he should.

Maybe because the question implies that our coach is a fool and maybe because there is no suitable rationale for anybody BUT Telemaque starting except "I want to see a freshman." Can anybody in their right mind state that any safety that we've seen play a game is better than Telemaque? Err, no. So we are left with a couple guys who weren't even great safeties in HIGH SCHOOL as far as I can tell it. Now they are our saviors? I mean seriously, has Telemaque starting ever even been in QUESTION?

Telemaque is still starting because our coaches seems to think that he is better than the alternatives--that is unless they are foolish. One would think that would be obvious and not merit a serious response. And personally, I'd have to say that Telemaque is amongst the least of my concerns. I'd love to have Ed Reed in our secondary but on a team full of guys who we don't even know, having a 5th year guy to rely on is not exactly the worst thing.

It seems that at nearly every position we are "willing to live with mistakes as long as...." but I know how that plays out. When we win 3 games making the mistakes everyone was supposedly willing to live with, Golden would be under siege.

Funny you mention Ed Reed. No star guy starts as frosh and made plenty of mistakes on bad team.
Still will be shocked if VT starts game 1.
