How in the SAMS **** is VT still a starter here??

Like it or not, hes our best option at safety NOW. Very much expecting him to have a solid year back there.

VT is solid. Not great, but we have far greater problems than him. I'm much more comfortable with VT back there than Highsmith, Rodgers, or a freshman.

NC QB was 29-37 290 yards. He shredded us, just like every team did coming down the stretch.
How quickly new season fandom takes over and fans forget how putrid our DB play was last year. And VT led the way.

You can't have 1st year players starting at every position in the secondary, VT well not spectacular at anyone thing will provide senior leadership and experience on the field.

VT was clearly not the biggest issue, did you see who we were putting out there at CB, M. Williams, B. McGee, and L. Chambers. As well as a true freshman in Finnie. That's the biggest reason we got beat up against the pass. I would also state VT is a much better option than the departed RRA.

Ray Ray was WOAT. Poor kid never stood a chance. Shouldve been a LB from day 1

IMO, Ray Ray, is an upgrade at the Strong Safety position than VT..... Both of those guys are slow, but Ray Ray is more of a playmaker than VT. Vaughn really lost me last year, when he started the whole season, but I only remember seeing him, make an impact in one game..... that was against Marlyand. The rest of the season he was NOwhere to be found.... I don't even remember if he assisted in a tackle after that game. JoJo Nicolas played better than him last year.

Last year Kacy and AJ weren't ready at all to contribute a the safety spot..... If Ray Ray was still here, I would've still started Kacy Rodgers at the Free, but I would've had to see Ray Ray and VT battle it out at the Strong. I know VT has lost weight and is in better shape to contribute, but even in the scrimmage, I don't think he made any plays that stood out.

I hope i'm wrong b/c, VT is whose going to start for us, so we'll just have to see.....

Sr leadership my ***. Leadership means nothing when you cant play. We are not contending for anything
this year and most likely will have a bowl ban. Time to cut the dead weight. Play the youngins and live with their
mistakes.

Ray Ray never was, and never will be a safety. His change of direction is quite frankly horrible for a secondary player. He's a guy that can be absolutely torn up if you make him cover in space. His lack of quickness was simply a liability in coverage.

He should have been a TE or LB...but in terms of our safety play there is no doubt VT is the better player...and it's not even close. Meanwhile VT, at best, is an average player. You do the math.

I mentioned it in the other thread but if this kid has any aspirations of playing on Sundays he needs to switch positions at that NAIA school.

VT may not be a blazer on the track, but hes been a consistent player here for us

He may not be Reed or SeanTay but hed start at most other schools

I am not a big fan of VT's play here and I wish we had another option, but I also agree that he's another guy who's fallen victim to unrealistic expectations/comparisons. When he was coming in, all we heard about was how he was a ballhawk, the next Ed Reed, etc. If he wouldn't have been built up as the next Ed Reed, but instead as the next James Lewis or Mo Sikes, no one would have been surprised that he isn't a big playmaker.

IMO, the issue we've had is VT is probably equivalent to a guy like James Lewis, but we don't have Ed Reed playing next to him. When our starting safeties, VT and RRA, are more the equivalent of James Lewis and Al Blades, and not Ed Reed and James Lewis, not a whole lot of dynamic plays are going to happen from the safety position.

VT is this years Jacory. They both have no biz being on the field.

Don't want to make this thread about Jacory but can one of the new rules of the board be who ever says he sucked last year get a permaban?

He was the 3rd in the conference in Comp% and 3rd in QB rating. He didn't suck.

VT is slower than all 3 starting linebackers on a team that was 6-6 last year. Wake up people, he runs a 4.85, everyone he covers, tries to tackle is faster than him. Couple that with the FACT that he tackles by diving at shoelaces I have no clue how anyone would compare him to Mo Sikes, Al Blades or James Lewis, all 3 would beat VT out of a position every day/all day.

I will never forget Pryor owning him over and over that day, looked like a middle schooler trying to catch/tackle him.

Obviously the coaches are seeing things that me and you arent seeing because hes been a starter here for what, 4 years now and on 2 different defensive schemes so theres gotta be more to it.....

I agree, apparently he is the best option we have. IMO, that doesn't bode well.....

That boy VT needs to learn how tackle the right way.. I always said that he was going to get a neck injury by the way he tackles with his head down...

lol really? pryor owned our whole defense that day not just VT. VT isn't going to win us or lose us any games for the most part. he handles his business on the field on a consistent basis.

as for his 40 time when they time him was he dinged up and what were his past 40 times.

stop with the hate
