Honest question.

Do y'all feel like a kid that reads on a 6-8 grade level, may have an IEP, and barely meets the academic minimum standards (with help of course) should attend the Univ of Miami?
I'll really want to see what current or former UM students have to say. Everyone input is welcomed though. Honestly, would that student athlete be put in the best situation. Or do you grant the Elite elite student athlete a chance and not a non elite athlete?
Is that a point to even consider in recruiting ?

Sure if he is an elite athlete. Opportunity, kids need opportunity. Plus they may learn how to read at the U

Most folks won't understand what an IEP is to begin with, unless they were on one, which would automatically eliminate them basically from UM to begin with, so you won't get much of an answer.

You right though. I wish there was a minor league football system that would grow strength to compete with the corrupt *** NCAA. Then we could watch minor league football and \ or NCAA football by STUDENT athletes.

If that system really did exist, I wonder who the "fans" of college football would really watch.

Said athlete can receive accommodations at the University level, too.

Frank Gore could barely read or write a coherent sentence, and yet he's one of the best ambassadors for the Miami brand. It comes down to work ethic and character in the end of the player is worth it.

Is this the new hot excuse to get paid for a kid to leave his local support to play in clansville?

I mean for you to get paid not the kid, thanks in advance.

What about kid that's questionable academically and an *******? Is he a take? Can he adjust to life in Coral Gables? Some of you might know, many So fla studs can be ******** lol
Real talk, would Current FSU player have gone to class at UM? Barely taking classes at FSU. Ain't no degree BIH
Many kids feel like it's easier at those schools than UM. They can take Two PE and Rec courses a semester.

Relationships. This is all about relationships. The best relationships for South Florida kids are at places they've visited a couple times in their lives far from family.

Don't like the tone of this thread, but won't lock it down because this is an open forum.

If it borders further into the land of trolling, it gets nuked. And, trolls get nuked, too.

Maybe instead of driving this kid to football camps all over the southeastern US, you should drive him to a reading tutor.

Oh wait, the tutor won't pay you to bring him, so you're not interested.

If this is a fake GenitalRon then you should nuke all his **** now because he's slickly claiming UM is "playing the game."

If it's the real GenitalRon and he calls himself Leader of Men and smarmily ingratiated himself into the recruiting scene as an adviser and mentor, then why is he asking these dumb questions? He should know the answers and should be disseminating facts to the families he's fleecing.

Fact is UM isn't particularly tough academically for athletes. He should know that. He should know that UM never kicks kids out for being unable to cut it academically. Point to kids who UM ran off because of our stringent academics. There's a long list of borderline academic kids we've admitted who either went on to succeed here or are currently still enrolled.

He should know all that if he's some sort of adviser and should be informing kids on that. Instead, he (or the troll posting under this name) is slickly intimating that kids can't make it academically at UM.

In my opinion, each student that is believed to have IEP or anything else will only help the schools image and goals to be the greatest college institutions of today. In this case, if the U or any other college can't properly educate a kid that reads on a 6-8 grade level in four years; it should close it's doors forever!

BTW, LU is right, this is out of forum, doesn't have much of crap to do with recruiting, more of eye. Should be moved imo

If the athletic department provides adequate support for in terms of legitimate tutoring and mentoring, then yes. Why not? The environment will do more for the kid than a large, septic state institution would.

Do you give that chance to every kid or just the ones that can make a difference ?
Sure , any kid gets a chance. But if he can't make a difference he better be able to pay tuition. What kind of stupid question is that?

This is ridiculous argument. Miami has made a commitment to student athletes. It's about the core mission of providing opportunity and access to higher educations for all types of students with unique skills and backgrounds. They add diversity and help bond the entire campus. It's a win/win for everyone. That's why Stanford, Northwestern, Michigan, Notre Dame, UNC, Duke, etc also do this. Do you really think Stanford with its 50 Billion dollar endowment needs Power 5 football for the money or fame?

Miami graduates athletes at among the highest levels in the country. If the kids are committed to learning and development, then they'll be fine, even if they start out at a disadvantage.

Light it up Lu... This guy is scum & shouldn't be allowed on here.

Op is human scum akin to a pedophile or crackhead.

But you are all missing an issue that's coming across in his statements.

There is a perception amongst these kids that UM is hard and that the program will be hard on them in the classroom. This is also being suggested by recruiters and handlers.

Some of these kids want to coast and smoke joints all day when they are not practicing.
