Back in the early 2000s I went to a few VT games with some friends (I’ve lived in VA my whole life). I hated going but went anyway to hang with them. I could never understand why outside of Lame Stadium there were at least one or two stands selling smoked turkey legs, and they always had lines of chokie fans buying them up. Like who TF eats their own mascot? I used to give my friends a hard time over that. That and that empty NC trophy case.

One of two FBS programs to never win a team natty in any sport. They’re so irrelevant it blows my mind that they’re considered anything in the CFB world.

They have zero recruiting juice in the DMV, Baltimore and Tidewater areas. Beamer had coaches in his staff who had deep ties to those areas, which was important because the school is in the middle of nowhere. It is Kansas State with mountains. Talent from those aforementioned areas are headed to Big Ten schools if not neighboring SEC and Carolina schools. And this Pry head coach, what was the rationale for hiring him? I know he played and coached under Beamer many years ago but what else?

VT was good for so long because they had an incredible coaching staff. I’d say this is where VT should be (maybe not quite this bad) without a great staff in place.

They are screwed for the foreseeable future.

Nail on the head. VT needs a great staff and for that you have to pay. You can’t just roll the ball out and lunch pail your way to wins. I don’t remember the last VT player I thought was halfway decent, I assume their NIL game is nonexistent as well.

VT is about to lost in the wash of realignment. They have to find a group of people who care about their program in the next few years or they won’t exist in any meaningful way. Sad honestly.

I’ve been to Blacksburg. I agree with everything you say regarding its location. What an ugly campus. Very redneck around there.

Nothing..... well he was the DC under Franklin at State Penn. Other than that.... zilch.

Who knows how bad he wanted that job, especially after working at Oklahoma and several SEC schools. I know hindsight is 20-20, but perhaps they should have considered the coach at Liberty, who won alot of games at Coastal Carolina.
