Here is the Question now..

Rodgers and VT start. A lot of playing time available for Bush and Jenkins (has to start at S now, right?).

An injury or 2 there and it gets real scary.

Rodgers and swasey.. Why not.. I mean is VT really that much better than Swasey... let them compete head up during fall camp..

Rodgers FS
Swasey SS

LOL @ Lee Chambers playing against Florida State.

Man.. that secondary was atrocious last year.

Mike Williams started every.. single.. game... then we had a true freshman, a converted RB (Chambers), and a kid who played Safety for most of his career play CB.

CB was just plain awful last year. We'll definitely be more talented there this season.

I see Rodgers starting at safety this year opposite VT.

Angels and ministers of heaven help us if it's Rodgers

Seems like everyone is basing their opinions one 1 horrendous play. that play was bad, but there are plenty of good/great players that have embarrassing moments. I'm willing to give the kid a chance.

didn't see this thread. asked this on the ray ray thread, but i'll ask here since it's more appropriate given the convo:

two quick questions:
1) with ray ray out of the picture, how do you see the snaps being divided among vt, highsmith, rodgers, bush and jenkins?
2) if bush and/or jenkins get significant playing time AND play well, will this negatively impact our chances with carter or burns?

My understanding is that Jenkins will be starting at WR.

1. I see VT and most likely Rodgers starting at safety this season. Bush and or Jenkins won't get rotated in until they show in practices they shot they understand the defensive playbook and their responsibilities. I don't expect them to ever be on the field at the same time. Don't want two freshmen safeties roaming back there.

2. I don't think Bush or Jenkins will affect our chances with Carter or Burns honestly. Especially if we regularly rotate our safeties this year.

Did not know that. I'd rather see him at safety.

The fact people in here are attempting to rationalize and sell themselves on Rodgers at safety tells you how bad the situation is back there.

Let's not kid ourselves...whoever we start at the other safety position will instantly become one of the worst starting safeties in the ACC. Out of all of them the only one I think could be decent is Highsmith. An ex-QB so you have to assume the kid's got a good understanding of the game in general...and he seems to be a pretty good athlete. He's got bloodlines as well.

I still don't think he'll be great either...but give me Highsmith any day. On a "normal" Canes team most of these guys are battling for spots on the intramural team

I've mentioned this on the board before as well. On a team starved for any semblance of a decent safety the infatuation with a "big corner" isn't a luxury we can afford.

If he's quick/fast enough to play corner he should be rangy enough to play free safety. I'd love to see this happen.

And Keion Payne STILL couldn't see the field.

I can't even imagine how bad he is.

Yall don't understand.. that was more than a bad play thats just bad plain horrible instincts....I know 7th graders who wouldve made a play on that ball. I wouldve took anything.. wide open dropped interception, a trip and fall, a pass interference, but to just stand and watch? That **** worries me way too much..I cant have guys like that on my team starting. If he starts we weill see that play many more times
