Heaps and Wyche

Can Heaps live up to his #1 QB ranking now that he is surrounded with talent?

I would take a guy that completes 60% of his passes, moves the ball and doesn't throw INTs. Get the ball to Coley, the TEs and the rest of the playmakers.

thats the biggest negative to heaps. he has thrown quite a few picks. i haven't seen any of them but this has to be at least a partial reflection of his decision making. he has 20 starts so that is a positive compared to our other qbs.

Someone broke down his receiver drops - with some of those directly leading to INTs. This obviously doesn't tell the whole story, but from my recollection the number of dropped passes was staggering.

LB play is more important to the defense than DT play, IMO.

Heaps has never had the kind of game breaking talent to throw and hand off to this year in his career.

2014 will be interesting, no doubt.

Let me see if I can change your mind......

Would you prefer Denzel Perryman dodging or taking on offensive guards trying to make a tackle or would you prefer him running around freely striking ppl? If you choose the latter if the two than a good defensive tackle/ or nose is more important. With a dominant DT, Not only can he distrup a play before it begins but if he does his job effectively enough the entire front 7 especially the LBs jobs become easier. When you get a chance listen to what Ray Lewis had to say about Dominique Easley and how he would come out of retirement to play behind a guy like that.

If the qb and DT are all conference we are in the final four...we need the DT to be better than last but not by a huge amount same for the qb to be a 10 win team.

counting on two guys who just stepped foot on campus in June to turn the team around = recipe for disaster

you'll retards never learn

Judging and criticizing the season before a game is played = recipe for ****assness

you retards never learn

expecting a F.A.G. coached team to beat any team with a pulse = recipe for disappointment

I'm disappointed or ****ed off whenever the team loses. Doesn't matter who is coaching. Golden has beaten teams with a pulse, but the overall product on the field needs to improve.

BOOM! to this comment. If you go into the season being so pesstimistic (sp?) that you ruin the excitement of what could be..then what the ***** is the point in even following the team? Or even coming to the MB? Last I checked we are 0-0 right now. Anything can happen.

Unfortunately, and most of you dont want to admit this, if Wyche or Hertoulou dont turn out to be serviceable, we are done before the first snap of the season. There is no way that Pierre and Moore can man that middle by themselves against premier comp. And forget about those pipe dreams of this team moving to a 4-3. Why even talk about it? It aint gonna happen. **** look at the recruits we are bringing in..These are 3-4 flex recruits. The scheme aint changing.

So with that said, some of us like me have to pin our hopes that Wyche or Hertoulou or both are good enough to hold this thing down until Moten and Jenkins are ready. If they are not, we could be looking at a 5 or 6 win season.

As far as Heaps is concerned, I dont care either way. It would be great for him to be what we need in this offense. But if Olsen or Kaaya can do just a good of job, give them the nod. But Olsen scares me to be honest. That "Jay Cutler-gunslinger" mentality could get us 11 wins or 2 wins. High risk, high reward.

No doubt! Scraping behind Ngata allowed Sugar Ray to kill it year after year.

pretty rational post for around here. only thing we differ on really is that I have absolutely no faith in two guys who just stepped foot on campus with a staff that has been embarrassed repeatedly on the field by decent teams.

the smart money is on things getting ugly real quick this year. just pray that it is ugly enough to get F.A.G. fired preferably before the season ends so that the next staff has a chance to recruit

This. Fans are either gluttons for punishment or just straight delusional.

they are flat out idiots. in fairness i think many are just young and dumb.

Exactlty. Can't lie though, I was a believer in the "A healthy Porter will drastically improve our D" mantra that was pushed on this board last year. I definitely learned my lesson. Some reports are saying Wyche is 385.. Probably wouldn't last 2 downs on the field. Most likely won't even be a starter by game 1. And then Heaps. This is the biggest joke. On his 3rd college team, isn't good enough to be a starter at Kansas, and completes 50 percent of his passes. Pretty much says it all for me. What kind of fuqqin fantasy world are these folks living in?

This is exactly what we need. If we get that production we will be a 10 win team and on the way to the ACCCG.

Shane McDermott has battle serious injuries for the past 2 seasons and was still able to be recognized and awarded for his play on the field. As a redshirt SR I believe he will be a stud and anchor this offensive line.

2014 RIMINGTON TROPHY SPRING WATCHLIST

2013 ALL-ACC, THIRD TEAM (coaches)

2013 (Junior): Started 11 games at center ... Missed two games (Savannah State, USF) due to injury ... Third-team All-ACC selection by league's head coaches ... Helped anchor offensive line that paved way for Hurricanes offense that averaged 425.8 yards of total offense and 33.8 points per game ... Earned letter.

2012 (Sophomore): Started all 12 games at center ... One of six Hurricanes to earn All-ACC honorable mention from league coaches ... Anchored O-line that paved way for third-best passing offense (295.4) and fifth-best total offense (440.2) in ACC ... Earned letter ... Awarded Walter Kichefski Endowed Football Scholarship ... Graduated in summer 2013 with bachelor's degree.

2011 (Redshirt Freshman): Saw action in 10 games ... Allowed no sacks and registered zero penalties against for season ... Earned letter.

I gave F.A.G./Dorito the benefit of the doubt going into 2013 considering the defensive depth chart that we had in 2012, but I was VERY skeptical that the clowns that produced the WORST DEFENSE IN SCHOOL HISTORY would ever put out a very good product.

the UF game did give some hope but that turned to **** very quickly. turns out that UFs OC is actually just as bad a coach as Dorito/F.A.G.

pretty much every single ACC team we played absolutely lit us up on defense. it is flat out embarrassing and I cant watch it. makes me ******* sick

QB and DT are the most important positions on the football team, so it is safe to say that if these guys perform well great things could happen for this team.

Auburn 2009 Record 8–5 (3–5 SEC)
Starting QB Chris Todd Starting DT Jake Ricks

Auburn 2010 Record 14–0 (8–0 SEC) National Champions
Starting QB Cam Newton Starting DT Nick Fairley

Here is a perfect example of how a great QB and a dominate DT can turn a average team into a National Champion. Now I am in no way stating that Heaps and Wyche could even come close to the type of season that Newton and Fairley had, but I am saying that those two guys, if they play well, could make this average team a very good one.

How the **** do some of you negative people think we got to 9 wins? The coaches suck, the D sucks, the QB regressed, Duke was hurt. The **** got us those 9 wins? SOMEBODY is doing something right, so who? I'm legitimately curious.

This is what blows my mind too. You would think a
  • 9 win team
  • A upgrade in talent at multiple positions
  • Better overall depth
  • More experience
  • Veteran Team (8 upperclassman starting on Offense & 9 upperclassman starters on defense)
  • Not having to rely on true freshman
  • No Highsmith, Rodgers, Green, or Gaines starting on defense
  • Duke Johnson healthy
  • 7 returning starters on offense
  • 8 returning starters on defense
  • 2 JUCO DT's added
  • Top 15 recruiting class
  • No more NCAA cloud
  • Full coaching staff returning

That list seems to me to be something to be excited about

The 2 spots that could make or break this season, QB & DT, could be getting huge upgrades or major disappointments. I for one believe that Heaps and Wyche will be upgrades and if so the sky is the limit for the football team. This will be a 10 or 11 win team if those two guys could some how perform at a All ACC level.

Can Heaps live up to his #1 QB ranking now that he is surrounded with talent?

Can Wyche be the dominate force in the middle that we all think he can be?

Looking at the overall talent and depth on this team, with solid QB & DT play Miami could shock the world.

QB Jake Heaps RSR (4*) Kevin Olsen RFR (4*) or Brad Kaaya FR (4*)
HB Duke Johnson JR (5*) Gus Edwards SO (3*) or Joseph Yearby FR (4*)
FB Walter Tucker SO (Not ranked but 4.4 SPEED)
WR Stacy Coley SO (4*) Herb Waters JR (4*)
WR Phillip Dorsett SR (4*) Malcolm Lewis RSO (4*)
TE Clive Walford RSR (3*) Standish Dobard SO (4*) or Beau Sandland SR (4*)
OT Ereck Flowers JR (4*) Kc McDermott FR (4*)
OG Johnathan Feliciano RSR (3*) Trevor Darling FR (4*)
C Shane McDermott RSR (3*) Alex Gall SO (3*)
OG Danny Isidora RSO (4*) Hunter Wells RJR (2*)
OT Taylor Gadbois RSO (3*) Sunny Odogwu RFR (3*)

WDE Tyriq McCord JR (4*) Al-Quadin Muhammad SO (4*)
DT Olsen Pierre SR (3*) Jelani Hamilton JR (4*)
NT Michael Wyche JR (4*) Calvin Heurtelou JR (3*)
SDE Anthony Chickillo SR (5*) Ufomba Kamalu RJR (3*) or Chad Thomas FR (5*)
WILL Raphael Kirby JR (4*) Jermaine Grace SO (4*)
MLB Denzel Perryman SR (3*) JaWand Blue RSO (3*)
SAM Alex Figueroa SO (3*) Thurston Armbrister SR (2*) or Darrion Owens FR (4*)

FS Deon Bush JR (4*) Dallas Crawford RJR (4*)
SS Jamal Carter SO (4*) Rayshawn Jenkins JR (3*)
CB Artie Burns (4*) Ladarius Gunter RSR (3*)

This is a veteran team that is loaded with talent. If Al can't win with these guys he can't win with anyone.

I think that just about covers it.

Project,

I'll just say that UM only beat 3 teams with a winning record last season.

UNC 7-6
Pitt 7-6
Georgia Tech 7-6

Our schedule last season was not murderers row by any stretch of the imagination.

There is no way in **** we should be giving up 500 plus yards per game and we did that in like 5 or 6 games last season.

I'm optimistic about the season but I am also in "wait and see mode."

Anyone care to name guys who transfer from two different schools that actually do anything at their 3rd school?

Anyone care to name the last JUCO DT that has come to UM and done anything in year 1?

It takes time for these guys to get used to D1 speed and strength.

The problem is and will remain a brutal scheme that does not fit the UM mold.

We need to be an aggressive defense regardless if we play a 4-3 3-4 5-2 (whatever).

This read and react, bend but don't break, play your DB's 10 yards off the receivers while playing pattycake at the LOS is not what a UM defense does.

Just sayin

With the kids getting more freakishly athletic every year coming out of high school, everyone plays an aggressive style of defense. All the top schools at least.

All this about the 4 new DTs we don't need all-americans we need someone to play better than the guys last year. If they are middle of the pack in the ACC and the same with the QB we are much better than last year! the good thing we are not picking from two cats, we have competition, somebody will step up. To complement the studs we have all over the field.
