So I just want to recap and somebody feel free to correct me if I make a mistake.
1. Nobody, including Golden, has been offered the Penn State job yet.
2. Golden disappeared for 3 days and kept the school, team, and recruits hostage at a critical time.
3. Travonte Valentine, arguably our most important recruit this cycle, decommits due to the uncertainty around Golden, but both he and his coach say that they want to talk to Golden to possibly recommit. Golden hasn't even called/texted either of them.
4. The vast majority of our recruits essentially said that they would remain committed to the school regardless of Golden's future.
5. Golden has appeared both terse and hurried in his press conference and radio interviews since he reappeared.
6. The statement he released was blatantly crafted with lawyer speak to give himself wiggle room to jump to Penn State if the job opens up.
7. Penn State wants a long term coach.
8. Of all the candidates Penn State has interviewed, Golden is the only one that appears to have long term dedication to Penn State. Munchak, Franklin, and Roman all want the NFL in the future and they may very well get it this year.
If I missed or misrepresented anything, please let me know. I ask why we are so sure he isn't still looking to leave and why some people want to keep him so badly when he has shown over the past week that he doesn't really want to be here.
Great post. Too bad the defenders of Golden's chivalry on this site can't see the writing on the wall. They are too hypnotized by the used car salesman to see the truth of the matter. Consider the following points:
1. James Coley was lauded as a tremendous recruiter. He was cleaning house at FSU. We got him and the majority of the board was saying how we were gonna have the SoM on lockdown. We also got Larry Scott, which is also known as a very good recruiter, along with Hurlie Brown (dude has been lights out on the trail). These guys haven't all of a sudden forgotten how to recruit.
2. What is the common denominator in us not being able to close out on most of the super studs the last couple of years? It's not Coley/Hurley/Scott, etc., or even Kehoe, as some have claimed on here. He has actually, at first glance, recruited really well this year. Too see the real problems we have to look much deeper.
3. Our performance on the field (crappy coaching), coupled with a **** for brains administration is largely responsible. It's the perfect marriage between a **** and diarrhea, (Golden and D'No, melded with Shalala and the BOT), which has, in the end, created this monstrous **** sandwich which we are seeing today. Golden's fingerprints are everywhere on this team, and it has brought us down to what I hope is rock bottom. Even Kehoe has stated that he never had taught offensive line play the way he has under Golden. This coming from a guy with a few rings. Yet, the sheeple want him fired and not the guy who told him to coach that way. Is this real life?
4. Feasting on crappy teams and getting pounded by good/ great teams is not my idea of a winning program. My, how times have changed. Those of you comparing FSU's prior 3 or 4 seasons with us this year are in la-la land. Those teams were very competitive and played with lots of heart and passion. Traits very rarely seen with our current team. We all know the talent isn't the best we've ever had at UM, but it should have been enough to at least let us see marked improvements on both sides of the ball. Good coaches don't let the worse players play just to reward them for being loyal, but corches do.
5. For those who bring up our victory vs. U*** early in the season, let me remind you that U*** fielded it's worst team in many moons, and it ain't even close. Their QB is a walking turnover machine and very inaccurate. Their defense was good, but not to the point where we should have looked so awful against them. We struggled mightily to beat them, which was a red flag for me at the time.
6. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Forget the stats (even though almost every metric shows that we've regressed instead of improved the last 3 years). Let your eyes tell you the truth. The tape does not lie. These kids are seeing that and are scared that their 4 years of college will be wasted playing for some dudes who are incompetent.
7. Yearby was always gonna go wherever Coach Coley went. Kaaya seems to be a similar situation. We got lucky on the former two. Other kids like Berrios, Harris, Smith, Thomas, McDermott, Darling, Young, Brady seem to be old-school Canes at heart. The undecideds are the ones that should be worrying everyone. Just like last year, most of the undecided super studs shunned the U. Don't blame it on street agents either. I know it happens but when are the excuses gonna end?
Only way UM comes back to greatness is if the shackles are taken off of the players and if the admin stops helping us lose instead of win.
