Golden on WQAM: 08/20/14

Golden doesn't have the balls to start Kaaya.

Heaps will start and then Williams will take over when he's healthy. 7 wins here we come!

Said this from day 1, he doesn't have the cojones to do it.

Any other coach in America would have by now started Kaaya AKA the better player.

Nonsense. It's highly unusual for a coach to start a true freshman QB, even a highly touted freshman.

Peyton Manning(the better player) didn't even start the opening game and we got a-holes talking about guts.

He didn't play until the two guys in front of him got hurt--Todd Helton and I forgot the other guy's name.

Didn't TAMU just recently opt to go with the dude who git some experience last year instead of the 5 start freshmans Parker?

It's easy for fans to have balls when their multi-million dollar contracts aren't on the line.

I know it's probably been said many times here but what do we gain from Heaps starting? Let's just say we 9-3 this year with Heaps & Williams then next year when we'll have alot more talent and maturity we want to start a QB with zero game experience? It makes no sense. If Kaaya did in fact out perform Heaps then he should play. At least then in 2015, when I think we'll have a legitimate shot at going to a major bowl, then we'll have a seasoned team.

And why does anyone want Ryan Williams starting when he's healthy. I NEVER saw anything in that dude that made me believe he's a quality starting quarterback. Watching him reminds me of watching AJ Highsmith play QB.

If we win less than 9 games, Al might find himself out of a job. As Ted highlighted in the other thread, he did himself no favors with the Admin in the PSU fiasco.

So for his sake, if Heaps is good enough to win 9+ games, you better believe Al will play him.

That's not the way our administration works. They don't make timely decisions based off tangible results. They wait 2-3 past when a guy should be fired to actually pull the trigger and then when they start the hiring process....they go cheap.

If Al wins 8 games this year you can be assured these idiots will retain him for AT LEAST one or two more years. Bank on it.

So with that said...if you really think about it he's got a hall pass to go with the freshman.

If Kaaya is Red Shirted then he won't get any playing time... But if the stars are aligned & all goes right, Kaaya comes in for mop up duty in the 4th quarter and gets all the experience he needs....

The starter for Tenn that game at UCLA was Jerry Colquitt( black guy, IIRC) and in addition to that, another true frosh QB, Brandon Stewart( who was highly recruited that year) played a series or two that game, I believe. He ended up transferring to Texas A @ M

I was actually at that game at the Rose Bowl in 94...

its not one thing or antoher. there is an immediate question. who do you start in a hostile environment the first game of the season? an experienced alberit average to below average quarterback or what seems to be an average average quarterback who was at his senior prom handing a cute bouquet to his date? doesnt mean kaaya cant come in against Louisville in a blow out (by either team) or if heaps crashes, or that kaaya wont play against famu or ak state or others.

I remembered the starter being a skinny black kid. But Helton was the starter ahead of Colquitt, and Helton got hurt too. Stewart went on to have a decent career at TAMU.

The only advantage to Heaps is that he's not likely to suffer from stagefright. He's played. Kaaya you dont know--no matter what they say about his composure while he's running around in a red jersey with his friends.

If it's even I suspect they'll start Heaps until he's ineffective and/or they're losing games. Then the experiment is less risky. If Kaaya looks better then they have a real decision to make.

Chise, whats funny is that in that game Peyton's one series consisted of 3 hand-offs and then a punt.
