I may be in the minority but I think Ryan Williams is an afterthought. I think he's our third option. It sucks to lose your job to injury but it happens in football and I think it's happened here. I think he became overrated when Morris started struggling but with the QB's we have he probably is 3rd on the list.

I almost wonder if they were leaning towards Heaps but his injury has them in a wait-and-see.

Why would they rest an arm if they weren't planning on using it labor day? Think about it.

So...if he has a sore arm and they weren't planning on using him on Labor Day, they wouldn't rest it? I don't see the logic there at all.

Depends on whether they feel he has the job locked.
Heaps injury seems to be something that he could have played through. If the coaches still were unsure of the starter, I'm sure they would have had him play through the soreness.
Also, this move gave Kaaya more practice running the offense with the ones. Kaaya needs all the experience he can get.
I think the coaches did this so that in case he's needed labor day he would have gotten the sufficient reps that they would have been comfortable with.

With arm soreness, for a QB or pitcher, "playing through" the soreness can very easily lead to much longer term, chronic injury. That's simply not something we can afford given that Heaps will be either the starter, or the backup to a true freshman QB. It makes perfect sense that they would be very careful with his arm regardless of whether they expect him to be the starter, the backup, or haven't decided yet.

EXACTLY. You HAVE to rest a sore arm unless you are content with throwing Heaps on the garbage pile for the year.

Golden doesn't have the balls to start Kaaya.

Heaps will start and then Williams will take over when he's healthy. 7 wins here we come!

Such a silly and immature assessment...baseless as well. Starting or not starting Kaaya has nothing to do with "balls", it has to do with trying to set your team up for the best chance of success. MANY coaches, including top coaches, are extremely hesitant to start a true freshman QB (one that wasn't even an EE).

Here's my bold prediction based on ZERO inside information. I think they've already decided on Kaaya to start. Heaps will play vs. Louisville as they will want to give him experience. I think Williams is going to take longer than expected to return as I think the doctors told him he was being too positive in his expectations. I don't think there is any way we can redshirt Kaaya in the current situation. Even if Heaps does start, we need a little experience at backup. All of this is my guess based on reading crap in the paper and on the net.

Said this from day 1, he doesn't have the cojones to do it.

Any other coach in America would have by now started Kaaya AKA the better player.

Nonsense. It's highly unusual for a coach to start a true freshman QB, even a highly touted freshman.

Peyton Manning(the better player) didn't even start the opening game and we got a-holes talking about guts.

Okay, well at least you've been at every practice and scrimmage to make that assessment. You must have had a very good angle of the practice field because just about every media member, coach, and player who have been at practices say it's extremely close. I'm glad you were there to inform us that the choice is clear.

Yeah, I'm thinking people are confusing Ryan Williams being the safe pick months ago (pre-Kaaya apparently not performing as a typical true freshman and pre someone transferring in with probably around the same skillset) and Ryan Williams actually being a quality starter. Things have changed since he was injured along with his Adrian Peterson type recovery being completely overhyped. I'm not saying we don't see Williams on the field this year but I'm of the mindset that's only if both Heaps and Kaaya are mediocre or worse and he's legitimately healthy prior to the Nebraska game. If either of them are performing adequately or better do you really think we just plug Williams in? Wouldn't his "experience" kind of be negated by then as a true value?

You guys gotta chill on the Kaaya redshirt talk, it's not going to happen. You need a plan B and a plan C, not just name your starter and your good. Williams wasn't going to set the world on fire anyway, let alone coming off a serious knee injury. You just don't know what your going to get from him. Then you got Olsen who is a bong rip away from getting kicked off the team, you feel like you trust him? I doubt the staff does. That leaves Heaps, Kaaya, and Rosier. One of those guys now has medical something with his arm. Let's assume Olsen is out of the picture for this season and Rosier redshirts, do you think the staff trusts a guy who is coming off a serious knee injury to be relied on to produce if he needs to? Not to mention he won't be back til Nebraska at best, if not longer. No matter how you slice it Kaaya is either going to start or be one play away from seeing the field. Redshirts are for players who don't really have a chance to play, that's not the situation for Kaaya.

Unfortunately, Miami's depth and recruiting at the QB position has put us in a terrible situation. I think Heaps starts at Louisville, which that in itself is embarrassing, and Williams takes over in Nebraska.

In a perfect world, Golden starts Heaps, & Williams comes back by the Nebraska game... Then Kaaya can Red Shirt..... Just maybe the reason Heaps sat with the so called "Sore Arm" was to see if Kaaya really is that much better then Heaps? If they're neck & neck let the kid sit, experience always wins over youth.... Also lets not forget Kaaya is about to turn 19 next month, he's still growing and one good hit and he goes down, on the other hand Heaps is 23 fully developed and might survive that same hit... It would be in the teams best interest to Red Shirt Kaaya & bring him in fresh for next year... Think about it Kaaya plays in 15 & 16, and then if he decides to turn Pro, well you've had Allison on the bench for a year learning....

To put it in perspective... Ryan Williams had a better passer rating in his true freshman season with a terrible Memphis team than Heaps in any of his three seasons in D1 football. Starting a true freshman Williams could have been a better option than Heaps let alone Kaaya. A healthy Williams should be significantly better than Heaps especially when taking into account experience. But I think we've established that by now.

If Heaps gets the nod though the only experience that'll matter will be his performance this year. My point is just that Ryan Williams perceived upside isn't so significant that I envision him replacing a Heaps or a Kaaya performing at anything deemed "average or above". Rolling into this year (if we're honest) the only thing we realistically could tout about Williams was that he's been around and knows the offense and could be a more stable option if Olsen doesn't mature or show us anything. Things have obviously changed since then.

True, when I said experience I meant Williams experience in the system.
