Agreed.

But if he had squeezed out 5 more wins overall (EASILY possible given how bad those defenses were), he might be still be around. and we'd be mediocre as ****.

Naw they didn’t forget. They just always love themselves some Al and that tie. He was bad. I even get tired of people saying Manny and Richt win with his recruits. Man I remember Al best players either committing to RS or signing with RS during his time as well. Dude wasn’t good. I think we need to relax with Manny. He has to do better but it’s only year 1.

We could say the same about all of our failed HCs. Especially Coker. There were 4 losses during his last season where he lost by 7pts or less. I don’t understand the hypotheticals with Al. He was just bad.

What? Golden wasn't a good coach himself. It wasn't just his staff. There is a reason no other team has come calling.
 
Had an eye for talent but could never close. The farther we are from the year97-03 the harder it has been for each coach to close. U know how bad it will be in a few years? Real bad.

08-11 we could still somehow recruit cause of the clout wasnt in a too distant past also had Nevin. Now we cant do **** cause 01 is ancient VCR history.

That's why I been saying winning matters too. Show me a team that has recruited at a elite level that has been mediocre as long as miami.
 
We got messed when they hired Randy Shannon, right then and there we should went after a real coach...at that point we were only 5 years removed from a championship caliber team, the kids in south florida still remembered it freshly....and now 17 years later from 2002 here we are...

Yea i get its a mixture of both but with location and the SEC raiding sfla they are a direct threat if keeping us down. If elite teams forgot about sfla we would be able to build something. But they wont let us breath they have us under water at the bottom of the sea sniffing air bubbles for air.

Being fired and being retained are two different things. Manny probably didn’t like the offensive staff that Mark Richt put together from jump street. Manny should learn from Richt mistakes and know when to get rid of the right coach(es).

Actually, I think Dorito was running Al's defense, not the other way around. Digiorno used to coach in a 4-3 defense when he coached under Schiano.

Mark D'Onofrio coached at Virginia under Al Golden and Al Groh.
Al Golden had Mark D'Onofrio run the Al Groh 3-4 at Miami.
Mark D'Onofrio was also under Schiano at Rutgers, where they ran a 4-3.

D'Onofrio may not have ran the scheme he wanted to run.
