Golden loves making excuses for the defense

Their te had at least 2 drops for first downs on 3rd down in the second quarter.

UVA beat themselves today...

This was easy to predict. We all knew Al would spin the 4 turnovers as "evidence" that the D played well. Hopefully he realizes it was a mirage. We gave up a ton of yards once again to a bad defense. They ran the ball at will in the first half and the backup QB was shredding our D until the strip. Not to mention at least 2 of the turnovers were more a result of UVA's offense being bad than our defense being good.

Pitt can actually throw the football a little. They have a couple nice WRs. If the weather's decent that'll be a 59-52 type of game.

Savage is kind of like Logan Thomas in the respect that he is prone to mistakes when you put pressure on him, but he is perfectly capable of shredding the D if you give him time and leave receivers open. We all saw what Thomas did to our D this year.
 
Maybe it's good Golden thinks they played their tails off, if that's what he really thinks. Because then that's one less aspect he can blame for the results.

No way we score 52... Following the team motto this year, Coley's play calling has regressed as the years gone on. And oh yeah we have Morris, who has been getting a HUGE PASS this last month due to the defense.

But that 59 for Pitt sounds about right

He has to know how big of a liability D'onofrio is to his career.

Paul Chryst is a very good offensive mind. Chryst vs. Alice and Duh=BIG MISMATCH. We're going to see guys wide open all over the field. Gonna have to hope that Savage has some brain farts and throws it to us like Watford did today. And Stephanie Morris is going to have to look like he has a pulse.

Honestly, that quote may simply mean that he is proud of how his players played their best, understanding that their best just isn't very good. Doesn't mean he is giving his buddy a pass in private, as you said.

He didn't say they played well. He said they played their tails off, which may be true. And before I make this next statement, let me first say that the defense, while marginally better (compared to the very low bar of the last 3 weeks), clearly stunk today (again). That said, UVa did rack up a good chunk of those yards in garbage time at the end. I don't mind giving up those yards, but once again, far too many yards in the first 3 Qs, too many missed tackles allowing drives to continue, not enough pressure on the QB...all of the usual suspects. Good to see them make some big plays, but they still have a very long way to go.

In my view, I remain far more concerned about the offense. I already know that the defense stinks, and expect them to stink. The offense is another story. They should be playing much better than they are. OC Coley and Morris are not getting nearly enough heat around here, and they deserve to be getting some heat.

The stat that matters is 3 and outs. Virginia's D forced more 3 and outs than we did. Marinate on that. Our D absolutely sucks.

And it's not the offense's fault. It's not the players fault. It's the defensive scheme. And he has the balls to complain about 90 plays? GTFOH. THATS dorito's philosophy! Bend don't break = 90 ******* plays on defense!

It's the defense's fault (including players and coaches) that they didn't force more 3 and outs, but it's the offense's fault that they went 3 and out. Morris sucked today. The OL sucked today. The defense sucked today.

No, it's not the offense's fault that our defense couldn't force more three and outs. And unless the players came up with the "bend don't break" game plan on defense, it's not the players fault either. Do you understand that when you have a DC say he doesn't care about how many yards given up, you're not getting many 3 and outs, unless the other team screws up? So it is ALL about defensive game planning. I just find it incredibly hypocritical of Golden to talk **** about 90 plays on defense. Dorito GAMEPLANS for 90 defensive plays.
 
We as fans really can't be this dumb? Golden will not come out and blast his players or coaches. He always comes out after and talks about the positives. We *****ed all the time when Randy blamed everyone else. Let the season play out and let's see what he does in the offseason. Stop *****ing about what he says about the team

Exactly. We complain when a guy throws other people under the bus, we complain when he blames himself, etc. Not sure what everyone thinks the guy is supposed to say. Do people really want him to blast one of his assistants in public?
